- This video highlights the "Deer Bike" I built in 2017 on the popular Coleman CT200U. We use this in deer camp to drag deer out of the woods, over creeks, up and down hills, wherever we need to go. We're not able to transport an ATV the seven hours to deer camp, but this is small enough to mount to the bike rack on the back of our camper without issue! I added a Predator 212 engine, torque converter, 72 tooth sprocket, Coleman performance kit with exhaust, air intake, and new carburetor jet, and lastly 18 Lb Valve Springs. It's got more than enough torque to carry a 200 lb passenger while dragging a 200 lb deer up any hill in our hunting grounds. Now instead of a 90 minute drag by hand, we're able to complete the haul in 10 minutes without over-exerting ourselves.
Fine job that's downright heroic in the mini bike world😊🎉
I am 58 now and I have been looking for a way to drag deer out the easy way and I have found it. Thanks for the video
Who need an expensive quad. Relatively cheap and effective. And much more affordable.
Larry Guevara true, but a quad wouldn’t fit on the bike carrier behind my travel retailer. I needed something that was functional and portable.
Cool..
Awesome. This kinda thing is right up my alley. Cheap thrills with a purpose. Way to go!
Hey, how did you mount the 2” trailer tongue receiver to the bikes rear rack? Thanks
Thank you for this. Mine did 20 before governor removal and 31 after. I'm 275. I swapped to the torque converter and got to 36, but the engine only revs to seemingly the governed speed. I just ordered the 72 tooth and I hope I can get 39 as well. Did you have to get more chain?
You wont go faster by doing a larger sprocket you will have more torque and less speed. If you want to go faster id recomend taking off the jack shaft or torque converter, and fliping the stock clutch, alighning the sprockets, and make a new chain out of the chains you had or order #420 chain and you will double the speed you where going with the clutch setup iv got a built hisun to 15-18hp in my hisun with all the billet parts and a .308 cam and i rev to 8500, on stock gearing i do 52 mph anywhere please ride at your own risk with these speeds its skechyyy as
Two things did you keep the original sprocket on the TC 30 series that drives the rear wheel or did you have to change it to use the 72 tooth rear .and did you put a billet flywheel
I swapped it for the 72 tooth. I did not change the flywheel. I don’t run at WOT long enough to be concerned about it.
How easily does the loaded cart tip over traveling through those woods?
Hasn’t happened yet, the cart has a reasonably wide wheel base. To be fair though, I don’t ride sideways across hills. Generally I’ll drag the deer downhill to the nearest path and load it up there.
You can use a small universal joint for the connection for a super flexible ride
This is awesome!! I’ve been wanting to do this for years but was afraid it wouldn’t work. Buying one now!!
Highly recommend it, it’s worked great! I would see if you can find the version with the front suspension. I think that’d be well worth it, but it was not available when I did this project.
I’m really looking at the Coleman bt200x
Do you find the 72 tooth sprocket to be to aggressive? I was thinking of using a 60
TheBudgetMonkey83 not for flat out pulling. It’s a straight up mule with the 72, and will still do nearly 40 mph with the torque converter. If I could find an 80 tooth, I’d go for it!
@@MattCorya on the Coleman site I believe the front suspension kit is under 150 still
That's awesome man your setup is legit, I like that
I’m 325lbs and my Coleman will do 25mph bone stock with my ass on it. Can’t wait to do these mods👍🏻
Cool video! Gonna steal your idea with the slightly smaller tow ball for a trailer haha
That's awesome. I love it.
you used 3/4 in tube, I used 1/2 drive sockets 13mm as spacers lol
Great video! I'm doing something similar with my CT200U for pulling a sled with split firewood out of tight places in the woods. Not super heavy loads and not much uphill, so I think I might get by with the 60 tooth rear sprocket and a torque converter. I plan to leave the engine stock. Also, i don't want to cut off that frame brace as it might be there to strengthen the frame. Do you have any problem with the rear wheel spinning and lack of traction? Thanks!
I definitely don't have problem losing traction...the way the trailer attaches, it adds even more weight to the back of the bike, so if anything, I have too much weigh back there. Though you can maneuver the weight back on the trailer, and actually provide some lift to the rear rack. I'm around 200 lbs though, and I've never had trouble with the rear tire breaking free unless it's on snow or mud....but I take it pretty easy on the throttle when towing a load to help ensure that's the case.

Good to hear. In that case I shouldn't any problem sledding firewood, thanks!
They make a riser plate for these that allows you to keep the frame rail.
Nice !
I put 18 lbs valve springs on my coleman ctu 200 196cc, having hard time starting engine. Pull start is hard and recoil hurts my hand. Adjusted valve lash .006 and .008 to top dead center still having same problem, any suggestions please thank you. Great Idea with the bike, I've dragged my share of deer out of the woods.
Chad Carpenter sorry man, not the most experienced mechanic, learned just enough to get this thing working. There are lots of resources out there though, like the “Predator 212” Facebook group.
@@MattCorya Thank you I'll check into the 212 group on facebook.
Awesome build! Could you link to the 72 tooth rear sprocket you used? Can't seem to find one that is compatible. Thanks
Ragnar Ragnarsson I think all the parts came from Go Power Sports. Here’s the sprocket: www.gopowersports.com/amp/4-hole-mini-bike-sprocket/
Just a quick question I don't have a lot of clean cut trails on my property do you think it would still run good through somewhat tall grass or like a bean field if we dragged a deer from there? good video by the way!
I can't imagine it would be a problem at all. It's got plenty of power to drag through tall grasses, etc. You MAY find yourself cutting a path through the bean field due to the foot pegs snagging on the plants as you drive. Really the biggest limitation of the bike I can see are in areas with large/loose rocks or rutted areas, it's not great due to the lack of suspension on the bike, so I just take it slow. Other than that - the only other concern I have is on very steep hills with the additional deer weight being dragged. I find I need to shift my weight WAY UP towards the front of the bike, to keep the front end from coming up. That's actually the reason I attached the cart to the bottom of the back deck - so it is actually not adding leverage to the rear, but somewhat "lifting" the rear deck and helping to apply more pressure on the front tire...of course that is highly dependent upon how we load the deer on the cart - 12 inches to the front or back of the cart makes a BIG difference!
MattCorya Thanks for the info!
Why go with 72 tooth sprocket and not the 60 I here of most people recommend. Idk much about it
Ryan Davis I tried the 60 first, it’s a great compromise of torque and speed, but I wanted all pulling power. It’s plenty fast with the 72, and I rarely need to travel over 10 mph anyway.
What is the total price including the price of the mini bike? Just wondering if it would be worth it to get a small 4 wheeler instead of building one like this.
Hey Brandon - sorry for the delay. An ATV wasn't an option for me as I have to tow a travel trailer to where I hunt so there's nowhere for a quad... but that would have been the obvious choice if possible. So, that said, I've probably got $900 - $1,000 in it altogether. The bike was $550 of that.
I’m totally copying this for my Coleman CT200U. If I just do the Torque Converter and 72 sprocket, will it be enough pull deer?
bryan aulisio I really feel like those two mods should be sufficient. I did all of the mods before attempting to pull anything. But I think it would be a good idea to do the TC and sprocket, hook it up and see how it does (load the carry with ~200 lbs or dead weight and find a hill). If it needs more power, you could add more mods, pull the governor, etc. until you are comfortable with it.
Thanks for the reply. The Coleman is so light I can strap it to my hitch basket. If the mods work out, I will have a super portable, inexpensive, atv.
bryan aulisio exactly right, and exactly what I was going for! Enjoy the process, and have fun with it!
MattCorya thank you for your help. One more question, how did you attach the hitch cover to rear rack? Simple nuts and Bolts
@@bryanaulisio4164 did he ever respond to how he attached it?
Heres a way to get serious power: Get a mini bike kit online and put a predator 670cc 22 hp v twin motor in it and thats called power!
this entire build costs less than a vtwin...and has plenty enough torque to do whatever youd want it to.
What tooth sprocket on the tav30?
Did u get a longer chain for the bigger sprocket?
I did… I don’t remember the exact specifications, but I ordered it from go power sports and they were helpful in picking it out to match the sprocket.
Drug any hogs with it?
Chris Courson nope, haven’t hunted them. No reason it wouldn’t work. I’ve also used it as just a utility cart, to drag 2-man leaner stands in the boxes, lumber, tools, chainsaws, etc. it’s just a workhorse.
