Question: When they say something has a pot bonus, does that pot bonus only go to first place? Or is it spread out evenly with the people who get money.
The reward gets less and less the farther down you go.
Hbox got 12,000, armada got 6,000, M2K got 3,000 etc. You can look up the exact amounts online.
Melee is the only eSports game where the commentary sometimes just boils down to
"OHHHH AHHH" "WHAT" "OHHHHH OHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

I feel like smash DI on upthrow is what ends up deciding those games. Hungrybox living all those throws was huge.
yeah, and what's crazy is he's been doing it since 2013. Last time Mango used puff at Apex 2014, he was smash DI'ing at the same percentages against M2K.

Wasn't smash DI, he was too high and input his jump in just enough time that the first hit of up air clipped him but not the second

I love how HBox, in such a tense moment, is still composed enough to be laughing as he narrowly avoids death at 38:28. I can't say the say about after the match, but hey, after that match he's allowed to let it all out haha.

Pretty surreal seeing a guy down a stock and in kill percent to the best in the world SMILE when he has a small chance of bringing it all back, like he just knows internally 'all i need is that one rest'.
Yo, this is by far one of the best tournaments ever. 2 game tens, multiple upsets and loads of amazing plays
And about this match, props to Hungrybox for the clutch play at the end. Props to Armada for doing amazing the whole tournament. And I want M2K to win something, but that's just me :]

Ethan Flinner it's a rough life for us Leffen fans. Luckily I love Oscar too but damn that must be crushing. People always shit on Leffen a little bit but it's seemed a lot worse this time and I think Leffen's not in a great spot right now. Playing off, getting upset, having multiple weaker tournaments in succession all with the pressure he puts on himself and the negativity of his own tweets. It's too bad to watch because he is such a phenomenal player when he's on. Nobody looks as perfect with Fox in my opinion.
weaselsdawg Well, he brought it on himself with that replayed UCF match. DQing himself would've been the right thing to do for his mindset, which is why Armada, M2K and Mango all said they would've DQ'd themselves in that situation. One match is definitely not worth the mental hit. His mindset is still recovering from that.
Lol the match didn't affect his mindset, everyone shitting on him for weeks after did. Even if you think it's a shitty thing, the TO made the ruling according to the rules of the tournament and their own judgment. There wouldn't have been a problem if they set up the only main stream GameCube properly. People blew it out of proportion massively.

So glad this was my first major to attend. It was awesome. Too bad there wasn't a shot of the crowd after Clutchbox won, the whole crowd shot to their feet. (Also Lovage vs Leffen tho.)
GOD I'm gonna miss Armada. Armada-Hbox and Armada-PPMD were matchups that pushed the boundaries of what is possible in this game, and easily my two favorites of all time.

_Manuel_ (meaning "God with us") used to be the one true ultimate smash god.
Due to his unparalleled skill it didn't even seem possible to come anywhere near his level of play.
People would practise for years and still get four-stocked, and while not getting JV5'd was seen as a huge improvement, people ultimately gave up after six years of trying to at least take 1 set off of him.
There also seemed to be a huge disparity in player skill and this heavy gap between them,
along with Manuel's domniance, lead to the competitive scene dying out for good.
Sakurai understood that his first attempt to create a Smash Universe was flawed,
and the balance of power too uneven.
He erased that timeline and began anew,
this time with a much greater focus on weeding out players of casual level,
henceforth strengthening the growth of particularly competitive ones.
He learned from his mistake of forcing a competitive-scene and would
give them a lot more "tough love" this time around.
Putting them into a position where they would HAVE TO *FIGHT* for their game.
And so we did.
However, just as a final safety measure he split the smash-god Manuel in two,
seperating his _unrelenting fiery passion_ from his _intense mental focus_
when each half would then grow into their own individual Smash God,
Sakurai knew he made the right call.
These two halves are now known as Mang0 and Hungrybox.

He's still one of the best players, but rarely wins against Hbox or Armada

Biggest difference in Hungrybox is that he's humble. Surprised when his approaches and decisions are working, and accepting Armada's intelligence or his own faults when they don't.

Love or hate the fact these two have been in what seems like, a shit ton of grand finals adding some boring repetition - it almost always goes down to the wire or has a close game; and 2-3 of them have been some of the wildest closest Melee games you ever saw.
They are a fun pair of competitors to see face off against each other - no matter who won that time.

1. With lazer game being so strong with Fox against puff, why is the Puff Falco match up considered not worth trying?
2. When Hbox smash DI's every up-air from fox why aren't they trying to just get the second hit? It's not terribly difficult and we see it against other characters like Luigi

Floofie kun tbh I used to hate him cause his style was boring and a little scummy, but recently the meta vs jiggly is playing a scummy, campy fox and hungrybox looks like he's really pushing his character to its outer limits. he's pretty hard to hate now, and I notice I'm starting to cheer for him more often
foxes only camp him because of his campy play style. if it weren't for him doing it first, then other foxes wouldn't need to
ParForThePeople yeah but there isn't really any other way to make puff viable. her air mobility and kill capability make her a perfect camper, and ofc foxes adapted. I'm just glad hbox isn't relying on cheap rest setups as much and is getting more aggresive with reads and combos, makes things exciting
