Good ideas! Here's mine: instead of spending money on a jar of powdered espresso, use brewed (and cooled) coffee in place of the water. I use it for cakes and brownie mixes with good success.

Coffee substituted 100% for water 🙂
Instant coffee works too
You forgot the most important one. Never use water.....milk instead makes it nice and moist!
Also a good idea for the 1 cup of water: make sure its hot water and that it's the very last thing you put in before the mix (so you can put in the ovven asap) the hot water actually gives a super moist crumb and a fluffier result.
If I make a box cake mix I always massage the flour mix a good bit before opening it up to break up any clumps of flour. That way I don't need to sift it and it reduces the time needed to stir it and potentially over-develop the gluten.
Plus, if you're nice to your cake, your cake will be nice to you!

I normally always bake from scratch but I kid you not, a day after this video was posted I had to use a box mix because I was in a huge rush to make a birthday cake before we went to my grandad’s for his birthday. I used these tips and it tasted practically like my homemade cake. Obviously it wasn’t the exact same as a cake made from scratch but it tasted similar enough that nobody even noticed. My mum was so shocked when I told her it was actually a box mix. Thank you Johnnie for saving my grandad’s 83rd birthday!
I'm also here for my Grandpas 83rd! I got sick a couple days ago so I don't have the energy to start from scratch😅

Not too much cinnamon - you don't want the kick, you just want to bring out a subtle flavour.
I use pudding in my cakes. 1 pudding cup that matches the flavor you are baking. It keeps it SO moist❤
In my house if I made it at home it's homemade 😂

Hi! Cake decorator here! Walmart shortening (NOTvegetable shortening) 1cup. Mix until soft. Then add 2tbsp vanilla. 1tbsp almond extract. 1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring and a pinch of salt. 4tbsp water and slowly add in a bag of powdered sugar.
Growing up in Chicagoland - if you've ever had Portillos chocolate cake, they add mayo to their recipie. It's how I make all my box cakes. SOO good! 😋
Oh man wait until my boyfriend learns this one. He habitually despises mayo but he loves portillos cake.

Mayo was used by Happy Homemakers during World War II, when butter was rationed. Love it for chocolate cakes. Was used in an IKEA cake recipe too. ‘The more you know!’ Love you. xxx
I used to make a chocolate mayo cake when I worked in the cafeteria at school and used coffee as part of my wet ingredients, it was so moist and delicious

Any powdered espresso will work. This is different from regular espresso. It's usually in the baking aisle.

I used the last tutorial video on boxed cakes to make my first cake in 20 years. It went decently well until I iced it. It tasted good. It looks like meatloaf covered in mashed potatoes!

So I’m gonna try this way for my next chocolate batch. I usually do 1-box mix, 1-cup flour, 1-cup sugar, 1 cup whole milk, 1 cup sour cream, and 3 eggs. 1 tbs. Vanilla for vanilla or 1 tbs. Espresso for chocolate. The vanilla ones are the tits, but I find the chocolate one is a little dry. I’m more in to vanilla cake with a fudge frosting personally, but I would love a doctored box chocolate mix recipe that I actually like.
