I dont believe you truly appreciate how much they cost & how HUGE they REALLY are.!! plus running your a.p.u . for a/c. would drive your neighbors INSANE.!!!!!
I retired from the Air Force in 2009 and I’m always amazed when I see all these videos that are made and put on CZcams when I was in if you got caught with a camera or phone on the flight line QA is breakin out the pen.
I used to love kneeling the jet, the left scanner has 99% of the responsibility, as far as positioning the crew entry ladder, actuating the nose landing gear folding bulkhead, installing the strut limiter, positioning the level kneel pad, installing the kneel pad extend pin, removing the NLG down lock pin, and installing the collars on the left and watching MLG module counters on the left. The right scanner just installs the right side collars, and watches the MLG counters on the right. The engineer position runs the checklist, and holds the kneel command switch.
Great stuff. The kind of detail you are not likely to get access to. Lots of thanks for the detailed explanation. The galaxy is a marvel of engineering. You have a new subscriber. Regards from France,.
Greg check out this video of me and my team using the kneeling system to recover a C-5 that landed with a fail nose landing gear czcams.com/video/Ee9JFNK0biw/video.html
@@marcuscarrion8244 Oh wow. That must have been a nail biter whatever happened to those gear. That plane is such a beast, y'all look tiny under there! Ha. Cool stuff, thank you for the link!
What is even more impressive is how those machines came to life only 100years ago... and it was not even close to this type of machine... humans were dumb as shit till the 1900s 😂😂😂 (or maybe its not human ingenuity)
Takes me back! Talk about a pucker moment, kneel Fred and watch nose gear come off ground while she sits on main gear! You feel like a million bucks when she settles back on the nose gear.
Just finished my Hydraulic and landing gear class for my A&P class. Swung a Bonanza gear and removed/replace the aux. hydraulic pump on a HH-52 Sikorsky helicopter.
@@69-avec-ta-soeur We also had to know the DC-9 layout. Galaxy is just another plane. Actuators, values, relief, pumps, open center, closed center, reservoirs, accumulators, limit switches.............etc. You get it now? It's all the same.
Well, yes I have a better understanding of the operation now, but, it would have been more interesting to actually see it in operation to go with the explanation?
I was a C-5 loadmaster in the 1980s. There must’ve been changes with the modifications. I don’t remember all those doo dads, and where are the counters on the gears?

Question 1 @ 3:12 will the hydraulics shear the pin if you forget to pull it out? Question 2 With the parking brakes released and chocks given the 3" clearance, will the a/c roll? And if it does, do the chocks need to be repositioned to attempt the kneel?
#1: No, as that would defeat the purpose of the pin. Some pins also engage switches which prevent activation. #2: The aircraft ramp is pretty flat and level and aircraft won't roll, normally.
Not required unless you're performing a task that specifically requires PPE. The only hazarx for kneel ops is sound, so only hearinv protection is needed when ATMs are running.
I love how yall explained this like I'm going to need to do this on my personal c-5😂😂

@@South_Ga_mafia I am so much in love with my neighbours, and I really need an old MIG-15 engine on my balcony....But an APU will do the job...
We could all use a C-5 Galaxy when moving households!
Give me a buzz and I'll give you a tour @Riley

Me and everyone else that would be lucky to see a C5 let alone work on one : "Yes this is knowledge i must acquire"
Amazing such little pins and pieces for such a big mover.
nice, now i can do it on my c-5, thank you very much!
For 20 years, I would watch the kneeling. Now I understand what is done. I miss my old job loading planes!

American military is comprised of the best of the best young people! I miss being in the USMC. These young guys are the best in the world!
Great video. Would have loved to see it actually kneel though. Close up of it all working together.

Awesome job. Many memories doing this TAFB 5004 & 6016
This will be helpful for my C5M which I use on my shopping trips. Thanks.
Very nice!
A little disappointed that they did not kneel it.

Great. I was always wondering about how to kneel my C-5.
Just finished my Hydraulic and landing gear class for my A&P class. Swung a Bonanza gear and removed/replace the aux. hydraulic pump on a HH-52 Sikorsky helicopter.
And how is that related to the C-5 kneeling capabilities?

Thanks for sharing and watching @erik 567, and good luck on you A&P. If you are ever in the San Antonio area and want a C-5 Galaxy Tour let me know.
I can still kneel a C-5 in my sleep and I retired from the Air Force in 2001.
Cool video, very professional!

I liked this video. You talked about kneeling but I still have no idea what kneeling actually is.......

Glad we have these how too videos for the Taliban circa 2021.
So, you fly into Dover and note that there are 4 C-5s on jacks. What is wrong?
Dover only has 4 sets of jacks!
Very cool video. Im not in the service what is a T O ?? He said that at the end of the video!!

That electric motor will make a pretzel out of that pin if not removed,,,, ive seen it before had to cut it out with a hacksaw
Was this @ Westover?
Travis. (Well, the video says it was produced by the 60th AMXS which is at Travis.)
Still has multiple areas for human error !
Lock or unlock position ?
That is why we have written checklists for doing tasks like this. I knelt C-5 for most of my Air Force career and never had any problem.
Lots of reds compared to my little cessna haha
How can I found out if my C5 has this option? Did it come standard?
All C-5 models come standard with this option. Crosswind landing options are available for an additional up front and long-term maintenance fee
Parabéns pela explicação, muito bom.
Thousand things can go wrong
Hey mardirossian I would love to get in contact again
nice start, but why not go through a REAL kneeling operation, to demonstrate each kneel option
This video is part of a series that was developed with the target audience being our maintainers.
@@marcuscarrion8244 Then surely actually combining the explanation with actual operation would be much more useful from an informative point!
