Speak with a New York Accent

  • This lesson has been crafted to help you speak with an impressive New York accent.
    Drop R endings
    artificial, care, horror, narcissist, party
    The Long U becomes uh-U
    music, new, truth, you
    AW thickens
    all, caution, talk, thought, walking
Hold on a second. Why are you involved? If my ex-girlfriend wants to talk to me, she can pick up the phone herself. There’s no reason to drag you into this.
And you think she and I should get back together? You know, you never asked me what it was like with her. It’s like you didn’t want to know the truth.
Let me tell you all about my ex. She wreaks havoc on everyone she touches. She’s a walking horror show. Talk about selfish. She wants what she wants and she doesn’t care how she gets it. No matter how much she manages to get, she’s perpetually dissatisfied. I’m annoyed that I wasted so much time with that self-obsessed narcissist.
You really have no business asking me how I feel about her, but to answer your question, I never want to see her again. Never. Whatever we had is over. The concrete reality is that I am with someone new. My ex is dead to me.
The handbook "Speak with a New York Accent" takes the exotic art of performing with dialects and delivers easy-to-follow lessons (including a longer list of those exceptional short A sounds). Break all barriers to learning the New York accent with this book, and at your next audition the casting directors will be scraping their jaws off the floor.

Chokfi But you can try to speak with your remote accent, it makes You stand out and gives you a sense of identity .I personally think a new york accent is also more eloquent. (Just listen to Senator Sanders, regardless of politics, he sounds very articulate.

It's weird to me that I have this New York accent when I ain't from New York at all. I was born in Indiana and raised there all my life. No one in my family even has a New York accent. I just randomly have it. I grew up with it and my parents and teachers thought I had a speech impediment. Little did I know, I actually had a New York accent that I had no idea about all my life until this year when it started standing out more to me.

Interesting stuff. It's quite possible that you acquired the NY accent subconsciously from listening to TV, movies, radio etc; the impulse to speak this way came from somewhere, even a meeting with a New Yorker in your childhood might have been the unconscious cause. If the way you speak sounds coarse or crude to your family and associates and is conspicuous, you could try moderating the accent by concentrating on a mid-west tone. Personally I like the NY accent. How speech sounds isn't as important as the content of the speech.
