    Nigel, that tiny watering can is even cuter than the tree :-) Could you please share the plus & minus points of burying that bonsai pot in the original nursery pot and growing sacrificial roots which are pruned periodically ? The background music is a nice touch & would have been better at roughly half the present volume. And i am sharing this from many similar comments on my own older videos, from the audience. Now my simple rule is - find that the volume that i like and reduce it even further for the audience :-)

    G'day Nigel, the tamarix is coming along nice...when making large cuts do you ever use cut paste? What are your thoughts?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Před 7 lety +2

      I usually don't seal any of the wounds, but I have used white glue to stop a cut from drying out in the first day or two on some of my Yucca trees. Cut paste can cause the wound to rot behind the sealed in cut. Some swear by it, especially on trident maples.
      Here are two contrasting views, maybe science vs. feeling....

    You know any of these evergreen trees that can go indoors all year round ? is this Tamarix a evergreen tree at all ? i am still learning,,, i mean, green needles that are kinda short, kinda trees. like this of yours here. Or ANY other tree like thing i can bonsai that will survive my 23-26 c indoor temp year round ? jade plants i know about and are growing already. Also, thanks a bunch for tons of good learning material.
    -Norway

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Před 7 lety

      Hello Derrick, the Tamarix should survive indoors well as they grow in some hot areas in the world. They do need a lot of light.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamarix

    • @QuadDerrick
      @QuadDerrick Před 6 lety

      aah, good old wiki. so evergreen is opposite of deciduous,, been wondering what this means when u talk about it =) many things to learn... Thanks Canada =) ,,,, if i may re ask,, i don't have windows with much light, they face all 3 sides of the house, exept the most sunny side.. You know 1 good tree for indoor with nice bark and bonsai properties that will survive low lights ,, indoor ? ... i ask too much maybe. Thanks a bunch either way. i almost hope you monetized now.. .. -Derr @ Norway -

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Před 6 lety

      I did have to monetize, I was spending many hours each day answering questions, I love doing it but it was getting up to four hours a day. I think I would leave your Tamarix outside until it lost all it's leaves and then bring it inside when the weather starts to get really cold below about -5C. The tree should stay dormant most of the winter indoors and when the new leaves come in, it should adapt to the light available.

    • @QuadDerrick
      @QuadDerrick Před 6 lety

      With my cool linux and, other software, i never even noticed you monetized. I'm sorta sorry for razzing you about it as u said :-) i really don't like capitalistic ideas, NONE ! I'm however glad for you Nigel.

    I am trying to start a maple from seed- is there a way to start other than using stratification ?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Před 7 lety +1

      Some maple keys fall of the tree in spring and they can be planted straight away and they will grow nicely over the summer. Other types of maples don't loose their keys until fall. These need a cold period so they are ready to germinate in spring.

    • @Apohlkotte

    I might have already asked but when do you root prune evergreens?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Před 7 lety +1

      They should be root pruned just before they start to grow again in spring. For most evergreens, this is when the new shoots just start to extend.
