Here's a fun game to play, watch the video and see how many glitches you can spot that happen in the background that none of us saw at the time! During the edit I saw a LOT of them. Happy hunting, and let me know what you find!
One thing I didn't end up pointing out with a clip at the time was that on one of your Afton attempts, the stage hologram of Freddy skipped some frames.

At 21:44, I believe that's not a game related issue, but an artifact of the occlusion culling method used by Unreal. Objects normally can take a couple of frames to be detected as visible again, and that's why they pop into existence out of nowhere (not to be confused by everything unloading. That's the game screwing up). In this specific case, the engine probably incorrectly flagged that object as occluded, but once you moved the camera enough it detected it as visible again. Then again, it could be considered a screw-up by the developers if the model bounding box was somehow placed far from the actual object.
At 24:32, the common occlusion culling popping artifact happens. What happened is that you passed near a door, that opened up, and occluded the far away door, which made the engine flag it as occluded. As you moved past the open door, the engine took a couple of frames to detect the door as visible again. At 31:19, this also happens as you open the door.
At 32:57, I'd argue the blob got frustum culled away, probably due to an incorrectly sized model bounding box.
At 33:47, what I think might've happened is that the engine didn't test occlusion for the endo model against the animated door, but instead against the closed door. In other words, for the occlusion culling code, the door snapped from open to close instead of swinging. It could also be that the game treats doorways in some special manner, and that it proactively flags some objects behind a closed door as invisible, but forgot to take into account the door animation. I'm leaning towards the first option.
the engine is part of the game and incorrect or buggy oclussions are still considered glitches, even if the source of the issue is not of the devs but of the engine they used. besides, theres almost definitly a way to avoid incorrect occlusion issues if done correctly
@@Sopsy_Hallow That's a fair point, but since the video is focusing on what the developers screwed up I think counting an algorithmic deficiency as a game issue is a bit dishonest with them, and also wastes his time, because he has to play an entire section all over again due to something the developers can't really do anything about.
Also, there is a way to have this kind of occlusion culling artifact not be noticeable in the game. You just gotta move the camera *very* slowly. But I don't think that would lead to a very interesting gameplay.
Alternatively, an engine that precomputes visibility, like the source engine, wouldn't have this problem, but it wouldn't give the game the same look. Source 2 maybe would get close (assuming it precomputes stuff like source does, I'm not sure).
this whole run turned into “If I don’t see or hear it, it doesn’t exist.”
Ironically, in order to beat the game without witnessing any glitches, you had to become intimately familiar with all the glitches in the game.

It's hard not to be a bit harsh on Steel Wool when their game is THIS HARD to play without witnessing some kind of clear glitch that breaks the intended experience they were going for

@@Jack_Woods the thing is that they aren’t very good at making these kind of games and don’t have much experience with it, and also they’re a small studio. Idea for actually getting around the visual glitch near the end: if low framerate and frame drops do NOT count as glitches, and glitches only count if you see them, what if you turned all the visual settings up REEEEEEEEEEEALLY high so that the game lagged really hard during the cutscene before the Afton fight, so that it lags through the frames where you're clipping into the ceiling so you never actually see the glitch happen?
We tried this tactic very briefly! We wanted to turn on ray tracing to max and other methods to lag it but since you need to reset from a save to update graphic options and I didn’t want to play the preceding section with massive lag we decided not to. But I did describe it as “genius” on stream to the person who thought it up, so you are a genius too!
@@BackseatStreams Lol. I actually thought of the idea when I saw the ray-tracing option pop up on screen. I thought "oh, that's a clever idea, I wonder if it works/why it doesn't?" Was surprised that the idea never got mentioned - I suppose it did, just not in the final edit of the video. I suppose this technically means that a true glitchless run is TECHNICALLY possible - just difficult and hardware-dependant in practice, since getting a lag spike at just the right time would basically be completely random, and they'd be shorter on better devices. Thanks for the compliment, though!
@@BackseatStreams Actually, idea #2 that solves both of those problems: couldn't you have just opened a bunch of windows and tabs in the background like (iirc) Spiff tried once for Freddyless? Then you wouldn't have to restart the game to make the lag come into effect AND you could close the extra windows/tabs after getting into the fight proper to get rid of the lag!
How did the premiere glitch? What happened?
@@daniellewilson8527 It froze and buffered for everyone at the same time, then skipped ahead about 40 seconds.

I love that the game is still so jacked up that you're finding even NEW glitches that weren't even there when the game launched. Just an epic case of "They really needed more people working on this".
And a whole lot more time at that
More people doesn't neccesarily help, I think they just needed more time.
Thing is though, looking at the credits, there were a lot of people working on this. It isn't so much that there wasn't enough hands on deck to help, it was that the crew weren't given enough time to achieve and perfect such an ambitious step in the franchise.
@@dnacat5062 A lot of people think more devs=faster development..not how that works at all. It can make things faster to a point, yes, but beyond that you just gotta give them TIME to develop the game! The SB devs weren't granted that time.
I mean the player kinda caused the game to be done in a rush and then even had the balls to complain when it was their fault the game wasn't that good (speaking of glitches etc.) so I would say that it's a case of hypocrisy and the players who rushed the developers to make the game come out.
Initially couldn't watch the video due to infinite loading, and had to switch to another device. Then the audio was playing and I got a new frame of video every few seconds. Freddy transcends whatever media tries to contain him.
I think a huge amount of glitches involving the animatronics could have been avoided if they had special animations for bumping into stuff, being at a door, or something at all to do with getting into Glamrock Freddy.
Regardless i still think this is a fine game and it just needs a few QoL patches

I'm honestly sad that this game was (and still is) so broken. It was such an ambitious step in a new direction, and honestly the level design was really impressive, it just wasn't finished. I really hope the devs aren't discouraged by the reception and continue to push the franchise in new directions, hopefully more effectively next time.
I think that Security Breach is pretty good. Actually, I think it's the first one coming from Steel Wool that isn't VR, so that may explain why the game is so buggy and glitchy. This is pratically their first time trying to devlop an free roam game *this big*.

15:27 Oh no, that *is* a glitch. When models are far away from you, they load low-quality versions of those models called LODs, or Level of Detail models. To save time, many LOD models are automatically created with "Decimation" where they just manually collapse a bunch of polygons together to reduce the polygon count.
Here, a decimated LOD model is being shown at the wrong distance.
Imagine the game being so glitchy that you actually think it's low guality is actually a game feature

Backseat: well i can't do that! I need to see where he is.
Also backseat a couple of months later: hey guys and welcome to the run where i can't see any of the animatronics.
Ironically, when Security Breach first came out and I played through it the first time, I can't recall witnessing a single glitch, but having tried to play it recently with all the patch updates, it's been glitchier than ever for me! It's like they won't actually fix the bugs, but rather just create a feature to get around a problem. Unloading the world when jumping into Freddy? Don't let the player jump during entry... Animatronics don't know how to get you on a table? Add an invisible barrier to keep you off of it. They never actually fixed these issues, they've only created loophole solutions around them inherently making the game far buggier than it was before... It's really rather unfortunate, considering how amazing this game could be with just a bit of code reworking and actual bug fixing! . .
It's not this funny to play the game now, with some bugs "fixed". My friend desperately keeps the old version, so we still can do anything.
The fact this ended up basicallly having instant replay and referees is just gloriously hilarious

I like to imagine that it was some kind of quest from Steel Wool Studios because they wanted to showcase/pitch their final product to someone unaware of how buggy it is (probably also a very important person) and so you have to try and produce six recordings of each section without seeing a glitch. What a ride.
Just got past the first section and it is amazing that the only way this run is possible is by skipping a mandatory cutscene before a glitch happens and avoiding loading screen tips. Truly a polished game.

32:58 as a person, who knows the technical reason why this happends, I would NOT consider this a glitch.
I can think of 1 relatively simple solution, that would not require a relevant amount of additional processing power, but I guess in many cases, it's not something worth fixing.
Yeah I’m guessing it’s just a case of culling the model but since he’s so big he can actually still be visible when he’s behind you, right? Still in the rules something vanishing or appearing out of thin air are counted, so it had to be a reset sadly.
@@BackseatStreams Following the planned ruleset instead of a case-by-case examination. That's fair too.
i was kind of thinking the same about the whole "character clips through door" thing; models clipping through objects is something that happens in loads of games, so while i know absolutely nothing about the technical side of things, i'd assume it's a thing that also just isn't worth finding a fix for in most games.
@@Acylenn characters clipping through objects is a similar issue, though I can also think of a soloution for that, although my soloution is a little rough.
Soloution for stuff with their origin offscreen not rendering would be each object having a value based on the object's size for how far offscreen they have to be to not be rendered. It would take a little extra processing power, but it would probably work.
stuff clipping through other stuff. cut objects into many smaller parts. when rendering each pixel, prioritize the object or object piece, that is closest to the player.
This is not a perfect soloution either, and i can think of situations, where it could look rough. Walls should probably work differently.

You know you’ve really failed as a dev when there’s a challenge to beat your game without a glitch and trying to complete it as if it runs as intended
And the challenge is literally impossible even with a very pose set of rules
The fact it is a challenge to not witness a single glitch in this game speaks volumes of its quality.
Many people would say, that it's normal to maybe witness one or two glitches even in current AAA titles, and that this challenge might be to strict on both any casual player and the developer. But, given that the game was released basically as a glitch to begin with, and the most egrigious bugs were only patched wy too late in this game's lifetime, for what it's worth, and the glitches were also fixed by... not actually fixing them, but just moving the goal posts far enough, tells me that the developer didn't actually intent to remove the bugs, but just obfuscate them.
So this challenge shows how bad of a job they did just obfuscating glitches, while they could have wasted the same amount of time actually fixing them.
