    Beautiful Little " Old School " spotter plane . Same principal as the Fiesler Storch from WW2 .
    You have to tie them down because a Strong Wind will possibly make them Lift Off . Would make Great " Bush Planes " .

      Can confirm, they are a lot of fun to fly. They feel very weird the first few times though!

    Wilga is a great plane. It was even built abroad in license. Have seen an Indonesia built version in Australia, different engine though.

    Reading the comments and find it hard to believe that so few know of this aircraft, it's been around since three 70s

    The PZL 104 is a brilliant little plane for STOL work.
    As a note, it's pronounced "Vilga".

    I wonder what awaits with Draco X. Will it have a scrappy wing. Will mike split the rudder to make it into a speed brake. Will he convert the horizontal stabilizer from fixed to fully trimmable to handle different loads and angles of attack. Will mike send the PT6 out for a new hot section

    • @wackaircaftmechanic2312
      @wackaircaftmechanic2312 Před 6 měsíci +1

      No, the Draco was based off the Wilga 2000. A more modified version of the Wilga 80. The original Wilga is more enjoyable than Draco will ever be in my opinion.

      The Wilga 2000 more specifically. Not the same as the Wilga in this video. The original PZL 104 Wilga is more enjoyable, in my opinion. It flies like it should.

    I komu to przeszkadzało, że zaniechano produkcję tego samolotu a na dodatek zniszczono i złomowano całe oprzyrządowanie technologiczne. Były prywatne firmy, które chcieli kontynuować produkcję, ale brak oprzyrządowania uniemożliwił to.

    @JC-td4gg Před 6 měsíci +1

    That is why it was beefed up to make the Draco. To bad no one has built another Draco type since the original crashed!

    • @wackaircaftmechanic2312
      @wackaircaftmechanic2312 Před 6 měsíci

      What do you mean beefed up? He used a Wilga 2000 airframe. I don’t care for those Wilgas as much since they didn’t have the radial. These fly wonderfully and they take a lot of abuse very well. Draco is nothing special besides a turbine conversion which was already done a long time ago when the Wilga was being built by PZL.

    Has to be really easy to fly, with the high wing and low speed.

    • @TheJustinJ
      @TheJustinJ Před 6 měsíci +5

      You'd be surprised.
      It has a powerful propeller engine, so a lot of torque.
      It flies at a high angle of attack to get slow, so a lot of P-factor.
      It also has conventional landing gear, tailwheels are less stable and prone to ground-loop, if you allow lateral g-loads to build up.
      Also, slow airplanes are not any easier to fly, in fact they can be harder do to Q (dynamic pressure) going down with the square root of speed. Therefore getting a little bit slow causes the aircraft to go from flying solid, to loss of control. Possibly in as little as 2~3 knots difference.
      Fast airplanes tend to fly deep into the flight envelope and are far from stall or loss of control at all times, except in the flair to land.

    • @wackaircaftmechanic2312
      @wackaircaftmechanic2312 Před 6 měsíci

      @@TheJustinJIt actually really doesn’t have a lot of torque and handles nice and straight when slow. I have the M-14P so I have less prop but turn a faster RPM. It does unfortunately ground loop a bit easier due to the trailing link landing gear but it is overall, very simple and easy to fly and enjoy once you get used to it.
      It really isn’t more difficult to control than a regular tailwheel airplane besides the trailing link landing gear and the fact that it comes in slow reduces the amount of squirrelyness that it has. It is pretty hard to lose control of the Wilga from my experience until you are about to touch down and then the roll out. Especially when it’s slow, it hasn’t gotten away from me yet so I can’t say that with full confidence. However, it refuses to stall and makes you work for it to stall it properly.
      The only thing you need to be careful with besides the trailing link gear is really only the fact you need to have power on when landing to not “slam” it into the ground and put stress on the landing gear. It is easy to mange after a few flights.

      Draco of course was a highly modified Wilga, having a Pratt PT-6A Turboprop engine. Wingtip extensions. Landing gear fairing fuel tanks. And large alaskan bushwheels. Modern avionics. Among other things.
