  • Daniel from Roland stopped by PSSL to provide an awesome overview of the new DJ-808 with insights on the built-in drum machine, mixer, VT technology and Roland's first-ever partnership with Serato DJ.
    For more info, visit: www.pssl.com/Ro...
    The DJ-808 is a state-of-the-art DJ controller with a 4-channel mixer, built-in drum sequencing, vocal processing, and the deepest Serato DJ integration available. Going way beyond a typical DJ controller, the DJ-808 is an instrument, with a Roland “TR-S” drum machine that contains the world’s most iconic drum sounds and can even control the Serato Sampler within Serato DJ. The VT Voice Transformer can pitch your voice to match the key of your Serato DJ tracks, while dual Aira link ports let you connect compatible synths and electronic gadgets, and produce a live remix, with just a simple USB cable. Sound quality is high-end and the hardware is built tough yet easy to carry-ready for inspired sets that push the boundaries of what it means to DJ.

    Just got this and it's amazing! I'm a retired farmer, now in Toronto, making house tracks on this thing and it's a dream, if a little intimidating, as I'm jumping from vinyl and a pioneer 909 to this monster. Wish me luck and thanks for the video!

    How many sounds there are from TR-S drums? For every 606,707,808, 909 drum machine there are their own bass, snare, hats; so it's 4 sound x 4 drum machines?

    • @descry1
      @descry1 Před 6 lety

      The arpeggio would have to be on the actual unit. You also couldn't use an external midi controller to control the TR-S portion of the controller (it would only control Serato itself)

    Another question, how would you use the Pitch Slider if you wanted to do the Keylock and increase increment of 25% 50% and so on?

    • @descry1
      @descry1 Před 6 lety +1

      Keylock is done via Pitch N Time plug-in (included with DJ-808). If you activate it, the key will not change, just the tempo. Additionally, you can Key Sync tracks using the dedicated button on the controller. To increase pitch range, hold SHIFT + DOWN/UP buttons (located in key sync section of each deck)

      @@AllenSmithe the dj-808 doesn't nullify the tr-8s sounds, but it's like a "best of" from that drum machine. you could use this as a stand alone piece, and guys like Marley Waters have created tracks with just the TR-S on the DJ-808.

    How do you get turn on the break effect in the 808 for serato

    • @descry1
      @descry1 Před 5 lety

      it's in settings, then on the main setup tab called "dj preferences" you'll see something that says STOP. You move the "horseshoe" up like you would sampler volume in serato. I'd recommend somewhere between 9'oclock and 10'oclock if you look at that dial like a clock

    5 years later I se this and I am sooo disappointed. this was a presentation of an awesome drum machine. I have not seen a bit of actual music being enhanced by this. Even the voice contrller he skipped over it like it wa too hot to handle
    This machine is a great engineering feat but this, engineering, is the method, not the purpose. The purose is to enable DJs , to mix MUSIC tracks and enhance them with the drum machiune. Where is all that in this video? NOWHERE
