- Hello everyone! This week I sang Defying Gravity from Wicked (the musical).
This is truly the fruits of my labor. I have spent the past 10 years practicing and practicing to get that last damn note and wE GOTTEM BOYS. It’s satisfying to sit here and listen to the cover I’ve been dreaming about from 10 years old. What a journey this has been.
I approached Sedgeie about singing this almost 6 months ago and what a GEM she has been. She is always such a pleasure to work with and I’m so over the moon to have her as my Glinda. Have a mild interest in theater after watching a West Side Story play. I never heard of this song. Even read the book. How would you compare its notoriety to other songs and why? I’m thinking it’s like One-Winged Angel in the regard that most FF Fans have heard of it.

I won't deny that Defying Gravity is super iconic, I wouldn't say it's the MOST well-known of the countless Broadway songs out there. Dead Mom, Who Lives Who Dies, Six. I don't personally think there is a song that is the most iconic, however I agree that Defying Gravity is way up there.

Anna, seriously, congratulations. I was listening to it all, then when it got to the end and you went through higher and higher notes AND YOUR VOICE STAYED SO FREAKING CLEAN. You really were able to pull it off and all the way over the edge. It was so beautiful and inspiring.

At the end of this song you can just hear the joy in Anna's voice as she takes to the skies. The chains falling off of her as she feels freer than she's ever been.

So my school's musical for 2019 was ‘Wicked', and our Elphaba was amazing. And in general the musical was a success and everyone loved it. I remember during our first run through, every single person cheered after this song. And today, I was clapping in my room (my mum yelled at me for this but it was worth it)

@@feralsapphic4272 Yes I participated in the musical. I was a cellist in the orchestra and...let's just say I barely survived those pieces. No Good Deed is a beautiful piece of work, but the strings part is just absolutely terrifying. Like, I've never seen a violin teacher not able to give an demo terrifying.
