Tom has ruined all other interviewers for me. I can no longer sit through an interview where Tom is not the host.
Nobody cares more about their guests than he does. The depth of his questions takes the conversation to a whole new level. We all know he puts in crazy hours to deliver these episodes, and I for one, cannot thank him enough.
But, I also can't watch other interviews (sometimes with the same guest) thinking, "oh come on! This is so boring! Tom would never ask such basic questions!".
So yeah. Another great interview Tom. Thank you. 🙂

When I say this interview touched my soul! I was hit by a cement truck, brother murdered, lost everything, and in the best mental space I have been in my life. These last 6 weeks away from everything has helped in my healing process. Like I told you Tom, I will be on your show. I was on Cutthroat Kitchen July 12, 2017. That was taped 2 months after my accident. I have to finish my book, but also get on the platform to help people who live in one moment for years.

    Impact Theory Phenomenon strikes again!!!!
This one made me realize that I needed to stop fully beating myself up for all the missed opportunities that I had while I was in my fixed mindset life. All my shortcomings, all of my downfalls, resenting the fact that I could be a differnt person if I had know this or that. Or if I hadn't given up when, but to truly know that at any stage of my life, you will have opportunities to become something. I may have missed a lot of them when growing up, but it's only my choice to keep missing any opportunities that I can have now. It's been a short time, and I am a new born into this life, I am young and will always be young. I have so much to do, so much to accomplish, and so many opportunities to grab a hold of.

I also went from why me? To why not me? This life was designed for me so I needed to make sure I was living it and not being crushed by it. Great interview

  • @TiffanyMikaTheLadyGolfTeacher

Hey Tom, Tiff from Australia. This was such an amazing interview. I didn't achieve my ultimate dream of becoming the number 1 tennis player in the world. It was devastating for me... I didn't even get half way. I have always been so angry and disappointed with myself over the years and really beat myself up mentally so much. So when I was listening to Jay's story it had such an impact. And I could really resonate with his story since I have been an athlete in pursuit of a dream. I still go through the mental beat ups because the lessons I have learned over the years has taught me to never give up on my dreams...(I still ask the questions to myself will I ever get there, I put in the work and I have the passion)! You have achieved so much already and continue to have an impact on me and as you can see many others. Thanks you for such an awesome interview! Tiff :)

I’ve listened to this interview twice today. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten more out of a hearing a life story. And especially one so young. I now have a new example of success & so many new ways to look at thriving after adversity. To hear how MUCH money there is, and how that no longer defines his “success” was beautiful. Tom - thank you!

I just loved the part where Tom says "I don't believe things happen for a reason, but is incredibly powerful to see the wisdom that people can mine from whatever has happened to them" (if they choose). And that is so true. Life doesn't know about justice, injustice it is just your perception and how you decide to see things. You can choose to let those things to sink you, or you can choose to learn from those and inspire yourself to greater things.

This is definitely my favorite interview that you've done so far. I was such a fan of this guy since he was in high school. I remember seeing him in the McDonald's game and mimicking the moves he was doing when I play basketball. And I always wondered what he went through emotionally to go from such a high place to such a low place. And it's very eye-opening to hear that what he went through was even more tough then I had imagined. You can tell by the way somebody talks how much depth they have to their being which only comes from countless hours of self-reflection and that is just something that money cannot replace. Thank you both

Hi Tom, I recently discovered your videos and have watched dozens of your interviews already and could not be happier I discovered you and your channel. Just off the start your personality shines through in your interviewing style and seeing you legitimately interested in the speakers and ask such great questions really resonates with me. I am 22 and too have struggled with depression, multiple suicide attempts and even spiritual pain as I discovered the profound effects of my subconscious mind and my greater nature beyond this life. It's made me feel alone and as If I couldn't relate to anyone, for multiple reasons but I always held true that I wanted better for me and my family because Ive suffered and ive seen my family suffer and friends suffer and its makes me sick because I feel as though for all the good ive seen in them they deserve better. I feel like I have the ability to rise above and help bring up those around me but the biggest challenge has been looking inside and learning how to dance with my demons and lay them to rest.
Anyway, I just wanted to write to you because I am wildly passionate about nutrition, mental health, and helping others and am writing my second ebook about Brain Health! I am no experienced writer and definitely am still learning more daily about the topics I discuss but what I have learned helped me so much I wanted to share that information with anyone I can in hopes that maybe it will allow someone to see past their own darkness.
I was hoping when it's finished if I could send you a copy for free in hopes that you might gain some value from it! Or maybe even remember something you may have forgotten!
Thank you for being you and doing what you do and sorry this is a wall of text... :)
    Eddie

Great episode. As a non-sports fan I never would have stumbled upon Jay Williams' story myself, but I am definitely looking forward to reading his book now.
Key impact points for me from this episode:
    1. The Kobe story. I'm enormously competitive with myself but always considered myself more of a collaborator than a competitor externally. Competition with others has always felt aggressive and unpleasant because I consider it nothing but a primal battle for dominance. Kobe's frame of extreme competition with others as being a mark of respect and appreciation for their ability is an interesting perspective for me to think on.
    2. "The more you can start looking at adversity by saying: “why not me?” You approach things with a completely different mentality."
I have a very easy time feeling like I'm not the guy for the job and discounting myself before I actually try. In those moments I am going to remember this and consciously ask: "why not me?"

Tom, I am a Theist (of the historic Christian variety), but I find that I agree with you in regards to the "everything happens for a reason" bromide. In Christianity specifically, I hear this idea pretty often. "God allowed this for such-and-such a purpose", "God won't give you something you can't handle", etc. Besides my theological reasons for not agreeing with this idea, I find that it's just not practical or helpful. I don't see any way in which rape can be meaningfully said to have a purpose. The same with molestation, murder, eating disorders, PTSD, and the list goes on. These extreme negatives can be leveraged to catalyze extreme positives, so much so that we're tempted to say that they "happened for a reason", but this doesn't justify those events or circumstances or actions that deform our humanity: body, mind, or spirit.
We may have differing spiritual world-views, but we agree here.
I find so much value in your content, Tom. I'm genuinely thankful for you!

Good lord. You are VERY good at articulating your point. Always a joy to hear from people that can agree and disagree with equal clarity, respect, and grace. Thanks for taking the time to write in. You are definitely preaching to the choir on this one. And you certainly said it far better than I did. I hope a lot of people read your comment.

Thank you for the kind words, brother. I won't spam every video with comments, but I thrive on respectful dialogue and it seems that you've fostered a community that does just that. I look forward to more interaction with you and the....Bilyeuians? Bilyites?...the Tom Bilyeu followers. :P
Your comment on the issue was so brief in this interview, I just happened to pick up on it and wanted to voice my agreement. I'm sure that, if you had the time, you could have put it just as (if not more) articulately!

Point well taken. If I had thought of that scenario, it probably would have been categorized (in my mind, at least) under "punitive action". I was thinking more in terms of random acts of evil. But even then, and to contradict myself, I would listen to the parents as well.
And you're welcome! I had forgotten that it had anything to do with chemistry, so thanks for the reminder.
