The DT680 probably has best bass among vintage boomboxes but in this video the C45 has nice explosive mids and highs. I have a DT680 at home and it is a very good boombox for listening to disco/dance and music with solid pounding beats. However it doesn't reproduce guitar distortion very well and I feel it is lacking when playing rock and metal. It seems the DT680 was build to choke the mids and highs to let the bass fully express. Which boombox would you suggest for listening to rock 'n roll and modern 90's rock?
I had the C45. Love it. Was the envy of a lot of my friends as well. They also sold a small shelf that went around and over the unit, and a matching turntable for it. That was the purpose of the line-ins for the most part that Panasonic designed into the unit. The turntable was on my wish list when someone stole it from work. I need to get another one of these for nostalgia. Thanks for posting!
Had that Rx-C45 back in 1985 and it blew away a lot of the larger boom boxes of that era, Panasonic was the brand to have, just had more audio prowess, especially my last one purchased in 1994, the RX-DT707. Wish Panasonic would come back strong and get into the blue tooth speaker arena making portable music boxes again.

It's cd player and radio work beautifully, but the cassette deck's playback fades in and out, and when i insert metal or chrome tapes it wobbles and the sound distorts even worse. Any idea what might be causing this? The tapes play perfectly on my dad's old AWA deck so I know they're not faulty. He reckons it might be due to the drive belt needing replacing, but I know a good nothing about these mechanisms.
Where do you live? Uk? US? I have an rx-c45 but there is a rx-c45l version that have short wave and Dolby. I’m thinking that the L version was only sold outside of the US?

I have 3 RX-C45's for a good reason... Their size is perfect... Not to big but not too small either.... The only time you need speaker wiring is when the speakers are separated... Sound quality is amazing no matter where you are and finally.... Plenty of knobs, sliders and buttons to adjust the sound to suit anyone... I'm not saying that it's the best... But it's pretty much up there with all the good ones.... Hey... Great video... .I wish that you had used a better camera though...
not sure about the c-46 but the c-45 has two metal contact points on the side of the main unit that connects the speakers when you lock them in place...
I also have rx c 45 tape recorder it is still working but 2 days before it has a problem and we repair it now also I tell it is best tape recorder and it has a good base result and it is still working
Try to use the s-xbs level at 2.5, not at maximum, and the dt680 would sound better than the cx-45 at highs and meds. Using the s-xbs at maximum level cuts from highs and meds quality.
I prefer The National rx-c45 over the bigger one ... If you like sound quality , JVC PC-Y555 beats Panasonic Rx-DT680 ..Better bass , better mids better everything ..... if you can get your hands on one of them .

i have both of them......if you put extra magnet on rx speaker , you get more bass. or passive radiator on back side....
RX-DT680 is the one for record as it use the AC electromagnetic erase head rather than the DC magnet erase head.

U r WRONG. The subs on 10 is what gives this Panasonic it’s deep bass credentials and it doesn’t lower the highs whatsoever.

National Panasonic.rx c45, rx c46, rx c48 , rx c52.....have a SANYO power integrated circuit 2x 7.5W RMS.
