In the year 1999, #indianairlines Flight #IC-814, an #airbus #a300 was traveling from Kathmandu to Delhi. It was carrying 172 passengers who for 5 days, went on to live the worst nightmare of their lives. This is their story, and the story of India's #worst #Hijacking. For more than 7 days the plane flew from one location to another, from #amritsar to #lahore to #dubai and then to #Kandahar. See how the events unfolded and how the #Indian Government both managed, and mishandled the entire situation.
The events of this story eventually resulted in major political events of the 20th Century. Including that of the #911 attacks and the 2001 Indian #parliament attacks.

You do not know where his latitude and longitude coordinates were when he announced Mumbai may be easier.! (as a PLOY in the hope that the hijackers would agree) This is not just about the closest airport, don't forget this is a hijacked plane. Any sensible captain would of course choose a place that can manage the situation first and try to convince the moronic evil perpetrating this on that plane. You saw what happened later at Amritsar. The captain knows the calibre and capabilities of each airport and tries to choose an airport where the situation could have been salvageable . Him doing his best to try and get the plane to a safer place for the sake of his passengers under extraordinary circumstances brings out so many armchair critics incapable of giving credit where it's due. Explains the IQ! I applaud the captain for his attempts to safeguard his passengers and apologise for people like this who think one dimensionally.

I can still see the faces of everyone around me, filled with sheer terror and despair. We cried every day, living in constant fear. The terrorists were ruthless, raping women and beating people. Just 8 years before this highjacking in 1991, Singapore Airlines flight SQ114 was hijacked by 4 terrorists from the Pakistan People's Party midflight from Malaysia in demand for the release of a prisoner. The pilots and negotiators got the plane to land in Singapore, and after no progress was made, Singaporean commandos stormed the plane and killed all 4 hijackers in under a minute with no deaths to civilians and the commandos.

20:12 not so, apparently. From 2022, India Today: "Zahoor Mistry alias Zahid Akhund, one of the terrorists who hijacked the Air India plane, IC-814, in 1999, has been killed in Karachi, Pakistan. He was reportedly killed in his house in an attack by two bike-borne assailants on March 1." Allegedly, even Pakistani inteligence was unaware of the murder plot, the assasins haven't been identified. However, the Taliban have appointed the son of the 1999 Air India hijack plotter (father & plotter Mullah Omar, son Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob)
as Defense Minister. What a sick country, was given everything to defend itself against the Taliban but those cowardly men just dropped their guns & fled, leaving the women to suffer. Dispicable.

Afghan army did not drop their guns, they fought valiantly for years and years and lost over 50,000 of their soldiers fighting against the Taliban, a group we Afghans absolutely hate! For years before the US evacuated, US had completely stopped going on missions outside their army based and everything was left for the Afghan soldiers to handle, which they did, until they couldn’t when the corrupt puppet central government stopped resupplying them with weapons and even food. US gave the country on a silver platter to the Taliban as part of the Doha deal and Afghan army was left without leadership in the last days when all the corrupt puppet leaders ran away. So yeah, don’t talk shit about Afghan Army when your own incompetent army and officials couldn’t get their shit together to save your passengers.

We flew the same IC814 from Kathmandu to Delhi just 1 day before on 23 December 1999. I was 7 years old! I still remember how all our relatives would call us after this new broke out! We used to have one of those MTNL landlines.
My father wanted to overstay for another day or 2 but my mom argued that we return on the same day because that would require us to postpone our return tickets too. Those days it used to be a big task to do that!
Alsp I remember the Indian airlines would serve almost everything like they do in business class these days.. lol! When we went to Kathmandu, Nepal, that was the first time i saw or heard about Momos! It became popular in Delhi like after 10 years!!

      1. It was a grave intelligence failure. The first informants about Pakistani intrusions were local shepherds.
      2. Due to the Vajpayee government's big mouthed-ness, they restricted the IAF fighters/helicopters from crossing LOC. Is there LOC drawn in the sky? 😂
Due to this, fighter and helicopter pilots were more concerned about crossing the LOC which made them prone to ManPads of insurgents and we lost many more lives and many assets due to this decision. Several of our helicopters crashed in Kargil without combat.

There was a RAW agent inside the plane . Why he didn't do anything?

Raw agents aren’t anything close to what is shown in Bollywood movies. They are intelligence experts. There job is to gain information being undercover and not engage. They aren’t the Bollywood heros type well built guys but ordinary looking people like us.

I heard this story from my parents. They went on their honeymoon to Nepal and were due to return to Delhi on the IC814. However, due to my mother’s health deteriorating for some reason they had to cancel their tickets and book them on a prior date. I still imagine what would have happened if things happened as they were meant to.
