idk, it looks like the jersey design team grabbed the opening clips of a mexican telenovela, rendered it to not make it too old-sy, slapped the phoenix and NBA logo, then called it a day.

The colors on the Pelicans jersey are for Mardi Gras which is a really big part of New Orleans and Louisiana culture
I think that is what the city jerseys are meant to do, lean into the history of the city. If you don't know the history the design won't make sense. Either way some of them do look trash and more thought should have been put into the designs.
No they are not. Mardi Gras is purple green and yellow. This is for the voodoo roots of New Orleans not Mardi Gras.

As someone from Utah, the city Jersey really did give me the hope to live one more year. It’s about all we got going for us this year.

Denver started using that maroon last season with the blue and yellow. It's similar but different to the Colorado state flag. On their white city jersey, they had red collars too.

Probably the only take I disagreed on was the wizards font comment, that shit actually makes sense. It’s supposed to be the font that documents like the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were wrote in, which is actually a neat touch.

The blue from the suns jerseys is a bit of a callback to our native population here in Arizona. That’s why last years jerseys were all light blue colored and native themed.

Being a Lakers fan, I try to know as much history about the franchise as possible. The city jersey for this season is using the Lakers old 1960's wordmark. It used to be that design where the word "Los Angeles" is in a triangular layout. The historical nod is cool but that doesn't mean it's great. I think the jersey is ok compared to the other teams' city editions this year but it's still not good. I grade it a D, fails but it's not the worst
