It’s been 10 damn years since we got a Star Destroyer play set, 10 years! Im happy they’re finally releasing one but damn. Especially for one of the most iconic starships in Pop Culture

I think I’d still rather own/have the 2006 version. Sure it’s got the crude gaps but you can easily just add pieces to cover them and to me that’s well worth the huge interior space and loads of excellent features.

Its been 10 years, time for a new playset version. I like the size, it keeps the price down, not all of us are so finnancially stable!
One of the few upgrades with the new one is the color. 2014 had far too much dark grey and not enough light grey and this one seems to have fixed that.

For $160 it's definitely wrong. Whether you like your Cal with a poncho or not, including it would give Cal fans the option to use it so both sides would be happy. The only right move was including it at that price point so of course in typical LEGO Star Wars fashion (pun intended)... they did the wrong move.

I remember hearing one of the leakers of the last year's gunship saying they didn't see any renders of an actual gunship, just the piece list. The the clones and the amount of red and white pieces (and I guess bits like the cockpit pieces) meant they were basically pretty sure it was a republic gunship. I wonder if with this they just saw a ton of grey pieces, imperial minifigs and maybe some internal document calling it something like an "imperial playset" and they figured it was a death star based set.
As someone who doesnt have much space Im actually happy this one is downscaled. I entirely get why people are upset but I can now put this on my 25th anniversary shelf.
This is true, it can at least fit on a shelf while still having a bunch of minifigs and some playability. I like mini/midi scale ships, but I don't like the lack of any minifigs at all.
Commander Praji was on Vader's ISD Devastator when they captured Leia and the Tantive IV. He was seen talking to Vader in the Tantive's corridors.

Cal toe printing is just a line. They didn’t have to do anything, but they did, and it looks so much better becuz of it. Lego doesn’t mess up every time

I just can't get past this set being smaller than the 2021 Moff Gideon's Light Cruiser. That's just silly.
It’s smaller, but it looks more detailed. I can see myself modifying it by enlarging the wedge and length. It also looks better in regards to actually fitting onto a bookshelf 👍

fun fact Commander Praji is an Imperial Naval officer that was trained at the Imperial Naval Academy on Carida, and received high honors at his graduation.
He was placed as Darth Vader's aide on the Star Destroyer Devastator, where he was in charge of recovering the plans to the first Death Star from the Tantive IV.

I’ve seen a lot of people complain about the size being too small, but that’s the reason I like this one. I had the first one and was always bumping into it because the side went out beyond the shelf I had it on. Plus the panels and laser turrets always fell off when trying to open it, so I sold that set. If I see a good discount on this one, 30% off or more, I’ll pick it up. Really like the hidden handle too.

I think it’s still possible to get a mantis. What Lego says is they’re making figures they otherwise couldn’t with 25th anniversary and that may just mean FO Cal, we could still get a Cal based off of Survivor in a mantis based off of survivor
All of the other figures (except young Leia, for some reason...) are characters that we have never gotten ANY version of before, EVER, though.
A Cal Kestis figure without a poncho is heartbreaking :(
Pretty good point about the Chimaera. It would be quite strange to get an ISD set and then within a year, get another one, even if it is supposed to be a specific ISD.
I don’t really care if the star destroyer is too small. I mean at least we’re getting a new star destroyer in 2024 with more pieces. Plus this is good for people who don’t really have a lot of shelf space (like me), where they could put somewhere where it doesn’t need a lot of space.
Also I couldn’t get my hands on the 2014 version nor the 2006 version, so I’ll at least get my hands on this one which I will be really excited to get it.
Just for those who don’t know, Commander Praji was Vader’s aid on the Star destroyer that boarded the Tantive IV in A New Hope. He was the guy that reported there were no life forms on c-3PO and r2-d2’s escape pod. Pretty minor character but cool to have him I guess

I will say when I first saw this, I thought the bridge/upper portion of the ISD was a bit oversized and out of proportion, but now looking at it for awhile, I will say it looks good, even though it is small
I am half-debating buying two of this set to either make a larger star destroyer or even MOCing a venator. While the UCS star Destroy/Venator look amazing, I don't have a space where I could possibly display them.
This is a great playscale star destroyer! It fits on casual shelves while holding plenty of interior space for the included minifigures. Price for piece lines up and all
the ISDs in the background look so much better than what honrstly looks like it should be part of the starship collection series
The reason people wanted a Cal Kestis Poncho was because its super iconic to the games, and the guy who plays him had this whole interview were he’d only do survivor if there was a poncho

Honestly I am very glad its small just becauseI am running out of shelf space😭. But really though with the price per piece, great shaping and detail, and great minifigs I really don't care about it being a couple inches smaller.
I’m very middle of the fence on buying this. I’ve never had a Star Destroyer and the price is reasonable, but it might be a bit small (which isn’t a bad thing since I need space) and there aren’t many unique imperial officers (Praaji might be a novel addition but I would’ve rather had Admiral Ozzel or Captain Needa).
I feel like the argument of Cal not having his poncho included being ok because he doesn't always wear it is the equivalent of it being ok that Darth Maul doesn't come with his cape or hood in the sith infiltrator because he doesn't always wear that either. Just because they don't exclusively wear those items doesn't mean they aren't iconic looks that aren't necessary to complete the character. In my playthrough of fallen order I took the poncho off almost immediately and never wore it again, so I'm not too upset by this, but nonetheless it should have been an option, especially for a 25th anniversary figure. You mean to tell me Saw Gerrera gets a cape (and Qui Gon gets a poncho in the same set), but giving Cal his poncho is too much? I don't think so.
Honestly, they might have released this Star Destroyer with it's minifigure lineup in relation to the release of the starship-scale Tantive IV/Tantive IV boarding scene? Commander Praji is suppose to be one of the imperial officers onboard the Tantive IV talking to Darth Vader.
I did the math and it is literally to scale with the Midi Scale invisible hand it’s just one inch longer so it would be around 17.02.

If this set is super sturdy i'll be estatic. The 2014 star destroyer is one of my favorites of all time but has some plate structure issues.
I think the downscale still works I mean it’s a gorgeous ISD for a play set. With how much space LEGO sets take up, I really appreciate this one being “small” and $160. Rly thought the modern ISD would hit $200.
I have the last version of this from 2016 still unbuilt in the box.
I was telling people in your may 4th live stream that the set was leak but no one noticed and their was one other person who mentioned it.
I am really excited for this set. I think the size will be perfect for display. I will be picking one up.
