I totally agree. He had no time to truly understand in the moment and when he finally did cas was gone and he couldn’t do anything about it.

Even if Dean had had time to process everything, I don’t think he would have told Cas “I love you” back, because he doesn’t really see Cas as more than a brother, plus he hates himself and has a hard time processing good emotions on a good day, much less the worst day of his life considering he was being hunted by Death, his friends and the world was being killed by God because of his actions, and his best friend was telling him he loved him and showering him with love and adoration and compliments.

I have actually thought about that, noticing that he has said it several times two different people over the course of the show in different contexts, but I can't recall a single time when someone said it to him (maybe Jack? But I can't remember specifically).
I don't know if the writers are actually aware that they did that, and maybe if they had been made aware that no one ever actually said it to him they might have changed it ( there was a scene in an episode back a few seasons ago where Dean was supposed to tell Cass that he loves him, but they cut it out).... but as it stands, yeah that's how it is, and its just so sad.

One thing I will never get over: the handprint.
When Castiel firsts interacts with Dean, by pulling him out of hell, he leaves a handprint on his right arm. With this scene, Castiel is now leaving Dean, remembering all of their moments/interactions together, leaving a similar handprint on Dean's left arm. It really speaks to the bond the two have, even if they fought at times, and shows the beginning and end of their intertwined story. This handprint really got me.

I remember watching this scene and wondering why Dean never actually reacted appropriately, but understanding Dean, he was never an emotional person. Cas is a different person. In a way, Dean really did change Cas. He used to be calculating and logical, but now he grew attached to Sam and Dean, but moreover Dean because they have a stronger bond (due to pulling him out of Hell). I think Dean understood at the end what Cas was talking about and finally realized it too late. That’s why Dean kept telling God to bring back Cas not because they were close, but because he never responded properly maybe. Dean crying after this scene made me feel so bad... damn.
I think dean didnt react because a part of him knew he was gonna come back. But when dean died that part of him also died. So when he was in hevan with bobby taking about cass dean smile like he was trying to say i love you too😭💗

From the moment he was introduced, I liked Castiel. Over time I grew to love him, especially his connection to Sam and Dean. When this happened, I literally went to pieces. I wept longer and harder than I had in years. The true testament to great creativity is when it evokes real emotion in the audience. In that respect, Supernatural is a tour de force. I'll be forever grateful to my best friend for introducing me to the show.
I liked Castiel before he was even introduced (was spoiled of his character and was spoiled of Dean’s death too but I was okay with, also just finished the series a few hours ago)

I'm not convinced that this is end of Castiel, that something won't happen to change this in the last couple of episodes. I also think that something might be seriously wrong in the Empty: the Shadow said that Jack's detonation "made it loud" and looked horrified. The Shadow previously said that it prefers the silence of its realm, silence created by all of the angels and demons sleeping there. I think that Jack might've woken everybody up.

Even if you don’t like the “destiel” ship, this is still a heartbreakingly beautiful moment of realization of how Dean has touched Castile and changed him. Honestly, I think that Cass’s confession is genuine, but idk if Dean reciprocates. But that doesn’t matter, what matters is that Dean knows.
Yep dean needed to hear he’s not just a killing machine…. Hearing that from cas was important.
So agree with this! I also wonder if every person Dean has loved wasn’t taken from him at some point, or left him, maybe it would have all been different. Of course, Cas left him too, but at least Dean knew it was Cas’s choice made to save Jack. That’s what Cas did for Dean: he saved his life and absolved him from guilt.
And watching this over again, I think I now understand that if Dean died in that bunker, Cas would be condemned to living miserable forever, because he could never be happy knowing Dean died thinking he failed and not knowing he was deeply loved for who he was; and so I think it is in this moment that Cas realized what his true happiness would be.
I think it's beautiful that even in the simplest interpretation of this scene (I am a destiel believer but this is for the nonbeleivers) Castiel's moment of happiness was Dean knowing he was loved. Someone telling Dean he was more than "Daddy's Blunt Little Instrument."
Man, that really sounded like Misha talking more than Castiel.. the gravel in his voice was gone and that was a nice touch, that scene hit hard. Top notch acting from Misha and Jensen in this scene. Can’t believe he’s gone..

The fact that Cass used Jimmy/Misha`s real voice in his last moments goes to show how hanging around the Winchesters and Jack for so long humanized him.

Admittedly, I cried more here than I did at Dean's death. I loved every single character (except maybe Gordon and a few others) in this show and it always breaks my heart whenever I see them die. But this is just... Cass was my favorite from the moment he showed up. The character development and his growth was huge, and he wasn't supposed to be such an integral part of the show. But the feelings of unrest and doubt that he feels... the first time I truly cried for Cass was when he said "For the first time, I feel". He asked Anna to tell him what to do because he didn't understand what was happening. And now we come to a point where he can say "I love you" and feel such peace and happiness as he dies because he's dying for the man he loves.
I love Sam and Dean with all my heart (they're in that little crevice in the cracked, black, cold stone of my shriveled little heart next to Niklaus Mikaelson and Kai Parker) and Supernatural is one of my favorite shows I've ever watched. Honestly, the only other show that could carry the depth of emotion it carried me through is The Originals. Those two shows made me feel actual pain and love and laughter and tears and such deep connections to the characters. Supernatural is one of the first shows I ever watched - first of all, it's a year older than I am. Second of all, I just have this vague memory of walking around the house, always seeing Sam and Dean on TV.
To watch it over and over again as I myself grow and become more mature, I realize that it's one of the best shows I've ever watched (personally, I just love the Mark of Cain arc - It's one of my favorite story arcs in TV show history). It's hard for me to feel more than token caring for somebody. It's hard to make me cry. And I can recall each and every time my heart seized or cried or laughed or felt happy or despaired. Supernatural is such a clear memory.
But seeing one of my favorite characters die doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would.
Dean's death hurt more than Cass's. Far, far more. I cried more for Cass not because it was more pain and agony (that was Dean's death for me), but because he chose it. He chose to sacrifice his life, and I remember feeling such a big shock when I watched it the first time. He's *_Castiel_* , the one who gripped Dean tight and raised him from perdition and then was there for the boys throughout so much of all of it. He grew from an emotionless solider to someone who can recognize their feelings and make peace with the fact that if they die, they're going to do it for someone they love. I love Cass for his beautiful character development. Sometimes, admittedly, I just want to place the three boys in a room and shove the full force of the SPN fandom in their face.
No one ever told Cass they loved him, and Sam and Dean got told it so little I sometimes wonder if they know they're loved, too. All of them deserved so much better than they got. Life gave them shit and they somehow made it beautiful. Cass finally found love, Dean found peace, and Sam found happiness - things they've all always longed for, even if they didn't know it.
I'm not sure where that beautiful word vomit came from, but if you just read that rant all the way through, I love you (almost) as much as Dean loves Baby.

I cried for a lot of character's deaths, but there were 3 main ones 1st was Bobby's death (his first death) my friend and I watched supernatural every Friday after school, I'd go to his, stay the night and we'd watch Supernatural and have take away for dinner. He was our favourite character back then. After he died we didn't watch it as frequently until we stopped watching it. Then I started watching it again as an adult, from the start, this time Crowley was my favourite (Bobby still one of my favourites, probably 3rd after Charlie). 2nd was Charlie, I grew attached to her even though she was a recurring character, she was just so loveable, nerdy, kind, awkward and loyal, it hurt seeing her die, she didn't deserve it. Crowley was another big death for me, I mean he was practically opposite of Charlie but he was that middle of the road character that you just loved to hate but also couldn't not love him at the same time. His allegiances were always whatever suited him, but he was always entertaining, one of my favourite lines "He killed my tailor" as if that will garner sympathy haha. In the end, Crowley was a pain in the arse, but he was our pain in the arse and it was cruel to kill him off, he was too funny.
Castiel knew how to feel human and his love for the boys was the greatest hope he ever had and that was happiness.
WAIT A DAMN MINUTE!! IS THE HANDPRINT ON DEAN'S SHOULDER A REFERENCE TO THE HANDPRINT HE GOT WHEN CASS DRAGGED HIM OUT OF HELL!!!

@@simonefabiane9562 Misha wanted the scene to happen because prior to the ending of S15, CW announced he will die in the episode. So he decided to make this thing happen at least his way, not CW's way (which would be 100% worse).
Cas said "The only thing I want is something I know I can never have." Because he was in love with Dean this whole time, but he always knew Dean didn't feel the same. Also, Dean is the one thing that he wants but can't have. Castiel's moment of happiness is in just realizing that being in love with Dean Winchester is enough, and accepting that he doesn't need to have Dean in the way that he wants him in order to be happy. My heart is broken. I can't stop thinking about it. I can't accept Castiel's death.

I totally missed that Cass was coming out to Dean when I first saw this. I thought it was more of a "you're my best bro in the world" kind of love declaration not a "I'd totally marry you" kind.
I was ugly crying up until Castiel literally threw dean because then I started cackling.... but then I started crying again.

What I don't understand is that why some people have problem to accept it. I know very little. I didn't know a thing even six months ago. But I've tried to know the characters better. I don't think love should be defined by someone's sexuality. Angel or not it doesn't matter. Cas used to be human or at least like one as Dean said in s6. Apparently Castiel's feeling for Dean was romantic and he was in love with Dean this whole time. I don't think Dean ever thought about him that way but it doesn't matter. What matters is Cas loved him and wanted Dean to know that. That was his true happiness just to confess his love. It's a shame that Dean died shortly after. That's one of the worst things supernatural has done.

I just finished watching the whole series. Based on the last scene where Bobby and Dean meets in heaven, Bobby said that Jack changed the heaven "with the help" of "Cass" so basically, Cass got out in the empty and is helping Jack managing the heaven and guiding him.

The amount of ppl hating on Jensen for this scene makes me upset. Cas has always been more emotional. Dean isn’t. I think I can’t count on one hand the amount of times he has told anyone he loves them. He is uncomfortable with feelings always has been. Yes cas is different but think about it if dean actually let himself process and feel this I don’t think he would recover. So I honestly believe this entire scene is cas’ last confession while dean is just trying to hold himself together enough to be there for his best friend. Which is why at the end when he’s on the ground he is like legit crying. He felt it alone like he always does because THAT is Dean Winchester. He is strong for everyone and won’t break until he is by himself.
