  • Hey y'all, welcome back! If you're new here, welcome aboard! My name is Staci and I love giving travel tips to inspire your next adventure. Today we are in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a German Christmas market called Christmas Village, which spans two local parks in the downtown heart of Philadelphia .
    We had SO much fun visiting the Philadelphia German Christmas Market: Christmas Village, and the Made in Philadelphia Christmas Market. I have a trip to Germany for Christmas on my list, but if you can't get across the pond, check out the Philadelphia Christmas Market or one of the many other United States Christmas Markets!
    The two parks are right across the street from one another, making this easily walkable..even if you had a few glasses of Glühwein. The German Christmas market, Christmas Village, is in LOVE Park, and the Made in Philadelphia Market is in Dilworth Park. Be sure to check out both, because there is so much yummy food and drinks, a carousel, and ice rink fun that you don't want to miss!
    We also toured the city of Philadelphia and I have a great video on all the cool things to see there!

    This is very well done. The Philly Christmas Markets are great. However, whenever we go there, which is usually on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, there never seems to be that much elbow room compared to what I see in this video.

      We went on Saturday and Sunday. There were a lot of people but we still had the ability to move around. Maybe we caught it on a good weekend? Thank you so much for watching!

    In Germany we never put Sauerkraut on the sausages. It‘s not an American hot dog. A good German mustard is all it needs.
    We also don‘t dipp pretzels in mustard.

      I think the pretzel in mustard is more my thing (I love mustard and can eat it on anything). You’re right, a good mustard is all the bratwurst needed 😋

    Ok so this looks like a much better time than my time in Chicago! The Chicago christkindlmarket was so crowded that it wasn't even enjoyable. We had to stand in one spot and go out for food but I feel like you guys were able to walk around freely and try everything that you wanted to. So thank you for sharing because this market is the one I am visiting next year! Also those tuck-ins look AMAZING!

      Thank you, we had a blast! There were a lot of people, but it was so big (spread out over two parks across the street from each other) so it was totally manageable. I just ordered some Tuck-ins and Humpty's Dumplings for our family Christmas party!

      @@gotravelwithstaci yeah it looks like it was big! The Chicago one was small. But it looks like the Wrigelyville location in Chicago is larger. So if you go next year that’s the location I would recommend. Also I subscribed and can’t wait to see your channel flourish! We should meet up some time somewhere!

    I’ve heard Germans don’t do the pickle ornament thing. Most have never heard of it. It may be an American thing

    • @gotravelwithstaci
      @gotravelwithstaci  Před 2 lety

      Yes that’s what another watcher said,too. Somewhere in these comments I mentioned that it seems to be a marketing ploy from way back in the late 1800’s.

      @@gotravelwithstaci Be that as it may, my Uncle always hid a pickle ornament in his tree. He was a native New Yorker and Irish. Go figure.

    The Glühwein must be cooked in front of you in a copper pot =D.

    (8:40) Tuck-ins look like the single most addictive substance on the planet. Dangerous. So dangerous.

  • @PPfilmemacher

    3:18 NOPE, we Germans don't put sauerkraut on our bratwursts in a Brötchen (bread roll),
    Only the Roll, a grilled Sausage (almost literally the translation of the name „Bratwurst“ („Brat“ means roast, „Wurst“ means sausage)) and mustard or ketchup
    That’s all nothing more
    Pickles in a Christmas tree isn’t a real thing either here in Germany no German has ever heard of this alleged „German tradition“

    • @gotravelwithstaci
      @gotravelwithstaci  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m so happy to have you here with an authentic German viewpoint! You’re correct on the pickle- after filming, we discovered this “old German tradition” is a myth originating around 1890 to market glass Christmas ornaments.
      Also good to know that sauerkraut isn’t a traditional condiment. While I’ve come to like the flavor, I’ll take mustard, instead, any day ☺️
