    Teemu Selanne (#60) is Finnish, not Canadian. Sergei Makarov is debateable as a top 100, he had a solid hockey career in both Russia and North America. He is probably the oldest player drafted in the NHL Amateur Draft (1983 Calgary selected him 241st overall that year and he subsequently won the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the year, again probably the oldest recipient to win that award).

    • @bruce4303
      @bruce4303 Před měsícem +4

      Good catch on Teemu
      ...and Sergei Fedorov at #84 is a tad low (by about 70 spots!) - he's certainly better than Makarov!!
      Sergei could have scored 700 goals if he wanted to, but instead, was one of the best two-way players ever.
      For whatever reason, he continues to be one of the more overlooked players - I don't get it...
      I ain't hatin' - just sayin'

    Orr, number one, I've seen it. Gretzky? Got a lot of points, couldn't play defense. Orr played defense and became the first defenseman to lead the league in scoring. If Orr played as long as Gretzky did, I believe he would be in the top 10 in all time points. Top 10, and he was a defenseman. Bobby Orr is the greatest National Hockey League player of all time.

    Picking top 10 is subjective for sure. In this point scoring crazy era I often point out Carl Brewer. 10 years with the Leafs, 5 cup finals, 3 cups, top +/- in the league for 5 years, in the top 15 +/- even after his retirement. Not a lot of points because he passed the puck out of his zone but did so very effectively. I'd pick him over an Erik Karlson or Phil Housley any day.

    As Bruins/ Bobby Orr fan not that people dont understand he could have been in the NHL at age 14. Aside from that the disregard for the amazing skills the Russian teams had in the 60's-70's is sad. Treytiak was one of greatest goaltenders of all time. Not sure people remember that the original Team Canada hockey team was supposed to mop up the rink with the Russian "Big Red Army". Kind of didn't work out that way

    • @bufnyfan1
      @bufnyfan1 Před měsícem

      It was ridiculous how when the Russians came to play in 1972 it was believed that they would be "pushovers". The Russian players played with each other in all the previous Olympics and in other tournaments for years before the 1972 tournament. They were supremely conditioned and knew each other very well. Meanwhile, most of these Canadian players had never played together (other than in meaningless "All-Star games") and were being thrown together in the summer of 1972 to prepare to play in this tournament.

Also, I see Brodeur a bit low, given that holds most of the goalie records, but maybe the logic is Roy’s prime was in a less goalie-friendly era? Then why is Gretzky ranked ahead of Howe who played in an era that was less scorer friendly? Gretzky MAY have beaten Howe in pts even if Howe played in a higher scoring era but I guarantee Howe would still hold the goals record by far!
