As someone taking on the restoration of their own life from not being the sedentary life anymore, just like a restoration, it's easy to put off because it's going to be a lot of work and a lot of time to get anywhere near something workable. But if you do take the time, scrub off the rust, and put the work in, you might be surprised how fast you see improvement

I loved watching you restore this knife! Super pretty. And here's my comment for those in high school: I kinda hated being told "oh these are the best years of your life" but one thing that I found is that it sometimes doesn't actually matter what you do, the best years of your life will always be decided and soured by hindsight. I have a small myriad of disabilities that didn't show up until my last two years of high school, and there are plenty of days where I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could. And that's something which no one really talks about when they say that things get better. When you have the ability to be healthy and work hard, it's easier to say that and insanely diminishing for those dealing with the inability to. Instead, how about this for the disabled folks. Take it day by day, and make a plan for tomorrow. It's okay to ask for help, especially when you need it. Do what you can to be happy with now, as much as possible; you can't go back to yesterday, prepare for tomorrow, and know you are doing your best. People who say "Just work harder" and "be active" don't live in your body. And that's okay. Advocate for yourself to get the help, medication, and assistance you need

At 53, I will say this much, take care of your body. That's the most important thing I could ever pass along. At 38, I had destroyed my back by being careless and trying to prove that I could do anything and be fine.
Now at 53, I've had 2 spinal fusion surgeries and have had 3 other clean up surgeries. I have 2 batteries installed and more scars on my back than you can imagine.
My big message, everything you do has a consequence. So as Kyle stated, make good decisions.

Yeah, I'm pushin' 50 and a solid wisdom that most certainly apply to myself and plenty of others is this; you get out what you put into life. Other sayings of the same character could be "put in the work", "hardest worker in the room", "you reap what you sow", "you made your bed so you sleep in it", etc, etc. It means that life is what you make of it and that you get to decide how your life is going to be. If you are willing, that is. Love your videos, Kyle. Stay safe and take care👍.

Among many thoughts, perhaps most predominantly I believe the message that your best years are behind you comes exclusively from those who can not or will not accept accept personal responsibility. Show me a person that believes this message, and I will show you someone that believes life is something that simply happens to you. Hardships and setbacks are all part of the human experience, and some people are dealt better hands than others, no question. But I believe you absolutely have the ability to be intentional and craft your life in any circumstance. Similar to Kyle, I say that as someone with a great life, and I try never to take that for granted. My high school days had some nice highlights that I look back on fondly, but those were the days that were in many ways out of my control. But now it’s my time to create the life I desire.

Oh Lord, the questions that are asked, nothing but clouds for miles and miles. Let me sit here still, until the silver lining appears. Kyle, you did a video recently about a handmade picture frame. A long time ago, you did a video about a John Deere tractor. Then there's the video called "Things my Grandfather taught me." Some of my favourite videos have glimpses of your young family interacting with your parents. SUCCESS is GENERATIONAL. Most overnight successes are twenty years in the making, or at least 2-3 generations. For the vintage viewers :teach your children well. For the younger folks viewing or reading, children search out teachers with integrity. SUCCESS is GENERATIONAL. As an aging Boomer, I often find myself thinking of the blessings of generational struggle and success. There is no such thing as a self made man. Before my success, somebody changed my diapers with love and tenderness. To the young folks watching, look for integrity and emulate those who have it. Maybe stick their picture in a handmade picture frame in your own little workshop of life. TRUE STORY!!!
Bravo, bellisimo, what a courageous video seen today. Git-R-Dun son.

In my mid thirties, and Kyle is absolutely correct. I just started my electrician apprenticeship. I joined the military when I was twenty. Got married when I was twenty-four. Because of Kyle and ThatWorks channel, I'm getting serious about getting into bladesmiting. Every stage of my life has brought something new and wonderful. Take your life into your hands. Make it the way you want. How you want. Never let anyone tell you how you that it's too late, or you are too old to experience new things and learn new skills. Do not be afraid to cut out those who are toxic. They will try to convince you that you have no choices and it mostly comes from a place of fear. You, my friends, are the artisans and builders of your life. Shy away from nothing that interests you. Try that new interest out. Embrace it. Never hold back because you fear failure This world cares very little about people, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Learn to embrace your passions and yourself. Love yourself. Encourage others to do so as well. I promise you, if you make yourself and your passions a priority, you will never regret it. Only you are responsible for your life. And only you can be held accountable for how you feel about it. Failure, my friends, is always an option. Quitting on yourself is not.

Kyle: You are wise beyond your years. To the young people out there...Kyle is absolutely right, your best years are yet to come.
This is the advice I give to my Grandkids. Please, please, please; find something you love to do and pursue it with the passion that you see in Kyle. You have the opportunities to learn a trade, go to college, join the military...whatever it is, all any of us ask is that you give it your best every day, whatever the best is for that day. Nobody expects perfection from you, they do expect that whatever you do, you do it with integrity and sincerity.
Follow your dreams and, create new ones as you go. I'm 68 and I'm still dreaming of new adventures with my wife and family. Oh yes, in the last year I have learned to use two different types of lasers and a CNC machine from scratch, and I learn something new every day.

Regarding the early portion, I think the best I can do is to describe my father's (85) take on life: Live every day like it's an adventure and your life won't disappoint you.
Hasn't steered me wrong so far.
From my own side (35)? Never be afraid to push your own boundaries, step out of your comfort zone, try something new or reassess. And especially never let people linger in your life who only do you dirty; just 'cos they're blood doesn't mean they have a right to waste your time and bring you down. Sure, give people chances, but have a point that you stop. You're worth it.

Give the leather grip some neetfot oil that are made out of cow legs. it's the oil that people use for sadles and horse leather stuff. It fills the pores in the leather so it gets back to it's full size and it stoppes being loose. I grew up with these knives here in Norway, i think i have the same knife somewhere and i should meane it was made in the 70's.

    • @kyle_noseworthy

@@kyle_noseworthy raw linssedoil is a great oil on wood because it penetrates much deeper than the boild one and does not contain lead and other heavy metals. And it dont get sticky and easy to clean of hands and smells good. But the neatsfoot oil is made for leather and has special propertys that fills up the pores so it returns to original size. So therefor ideal to restore old knives with leather grips thats lose and with lose guards and so on. You have a great channel and good luck forward in life. And a big hello from Norway

I’m a little late to the discussion, but this is a very important discussion: I am in my early 50’s. My “glory days “ are over, but I have that experience and tales to tell, scars to show; so what if I can’t physically do stuff like I used to, what I’ve done, seen and learned is in my head and I try to share as appropriate.
On the subject of music in relation to the topic; look to Nena, Gabriele Kerner, who sang 99 Luft Balloons (later re-written into English as 99 Red Balloons) in the 1980’s as a young woman. She is still performing and recording in her native Germany, and is making the greatest music ever because of her progression as an artist, musical and writing skills and life experience that fuels her music.
On the Canadian music scene: Scars To Prove It by the Roadhammers is quite powerful, as is The Journey by Paul Brandt.
Music is powerful and an inspirational tool; the best coming from folks who have Lived Life, had to fight, claw and struggle their way along. The old Blues greats knew that; that’s why they called their music the Blues! You had to live and suffer to pay your dues and earn the emotional experience that fuels the music. Same for any craft: you have to learn and progress, hone your skills and earn your place. Life is a journey and it isn’t over until you’re in the ground; even then, the legacy left behind in music written, items crafted, lives touched and wisdom shared continues on the work and journey. ❤🙏♥️🇨🇦♥️🌲🏔️💪👍

So don't try to make your haters happy. If you are simply being yourself. Everyone will hate you in the beginning. But will come to rely on it as adults." I am exactly the same as I was in highschool. I still help the ones that can't fight back. I lost track of how many fights stopped from me taking one hit and it was over with. Whereas if I didn't step in. How many next to death beating would their have been? I don't regret any of it. I've even became friends with those that have beat me back in the day. I've lost friends I protected back then. And everything in between. But the one thing I learned from it all of that is nothing is permanent. Not even friendships.

Hey Kyle, in response to your enquiry how us old farts feel about the supposed “Best Years Of Your Life” In other words, being at school, It was my experience That school offered me little in pleasure but it did give me the essentials necessary to move forward after those miserable years were over!
I think back and the only reasons I went to school were to play rugby and more worryingly, if I hadn’t, my mother would’ve beaten me with a stick, really!
If I had it to do again I’d make better use of the time but I still wouldn’t like it!
As for the younger people watching I’d say get as much out of school as you can and when it’s over you’ll at least have some options.
Further education is most definitely NOT for everybody and if you’re not academically driven DONT waste years and a lot of money on it, you can always go back as a mature student if your career path leads that way.
The trades are always going to be in demand and there’s a very good living to be made in those occupations and the opportunities for creating a business and working for yourself are always there.
In closing I’d say to the young people to look at yourself in a hard cold light and be honest when you make your choices, if the books and academic endeavour comes easy, follow that path and give it your all.
Conversely if you’re a hands on type, realise it early and go all out to find a good company to give you a chance. Start looking as early as possible, while you have time at school ahead and if you get a chance, bust your arse to make it work for you. Be sure of your ability to focus in whatever field, try to know yourself as well as you can, be honest and work hard, listen to the old heads on all matters, not just work related stuff, remember, they’ve been young and dumb too, if they’re still here and prospering they may know some things that’ll help you cut a corner and prevent a catastrophe.

I would offer some advice I wish I would have heeded back when I was young. First, although high school was a great time in my life, I was fortunate enough to be in the position that it got better with age. Life happens in phases. Think of it as a sine wave. There will be ups and downs. Learn from all of it. Second, put money away when you earn it! Make a budget. If something you want to do exceeds your budget, learn how to do without until you’re in a better financial position. It will pay off! Third, stay fit. If you treat your body right, it will treat you right. When something goes wrong, don’t wait to take care of it. Fourth, when you decide on a career, make sure it is fulfilling, not just financially, but emotionally. I’d rather make less money and have an emotionally rewarding career than make more money but be dead inside. I was fortunate in that respect. Finally, love is the most valuable currency in the world. Savor it, and spend it wisely, because the dividends will pay off a million fold if you play your cards right. Good luck!
