    • @samuel34676
      @samuel34676 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Rubber guard uses the arm to hold the leg down on your opponents back, this traps your hips and you lose the ability to hip out to the side or use your arm to control their arm for the triangle like he shows. It’s definitely similar but I think this is probably the better option

    • @impulsive1252

    I'm a 51 year old white belt. I'm built now like a fire-plug. 5'8, 205lbs Escaping for me is difficult. I'm not flexible. I'm the antithesis of flexability. Although I'm strong, I can't sustain using such strength for long, nor should I. I'm trying to work on technique and flow. Will this technique work well for someone ɓuilt like me?
    I'm going to try training this for the next several weeks. Any advice?

      @macrubit Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@kylelemon4230 Sorry, I did not know William’s guard and assumed it was like the rubber guard. I took a look and the preferred angle is very similar to that of clamp. Also the set up is similar, so I guess it is a good alternative. The tradeoff I see here is control for mobility, since you are using the left arm for wedging instead of using it for kimura etc.

    how is this different from rubber guard?

    • @JSMinstantcoaching
      @JSMinstantcoaching Před 9 měsíci +1

      The basic position of rubber guard implies what Eddie would call a mission control hand ( Hand 1 under your own shin ) and a new york / new jersey hand ( hand 2 over your own knee ) distinction is made between a 3/4 rubber guard on your shoulder and full rubber guard on your back ( needing more flexibility )
