RIP Richard Wright. He shines as much as David Gilmour.
The last time Richard and David played Echoes live is beyond superb, definitely worth a listen

    A true classic.
For me, this is the blueprint for future Floyd music. It covers so much musically of what they did after this. Firmly and thankfully, puts the Barrett era in it's coffin.
Good reaction guys and well done Wayne for the initial selection.

I love the Barrett stuff, as well as his solo stuff, but definitely like a totally different band.. that being said, I could do without “The Wall” or anything after it, including the solo projects.
To each their own, I guess.

The beautiful story of us. How we came to be and especially the live performance in Pompeii, how we suffer great catastrophes, and working together, how we overcome. Together.

Here's the statement from Gilmour why he will never perform Echoes live anymore. He sees Echoes primarily as a duet between him and Rick Wright. Because Rick had passed away, he will be always missing. czcams.com/video/3Z7GBoJxVkI/video.html

In the PF at Pompeii version, part 1, Nick Mason's drumming is amazing. already going wild at the first part, which you can't hear in the studio version.

The harmonies that David and Rick generate are otherworldly. There are numerous songs in the Floyd catalog that utilize their harmonies, and those are my most favorite Floyd songs. Alot of the first album with Syd Barrett songs were sung with Syd and Rick using the same harmony style. Gilmour took over all of Syds' vocal parts once he had left the building. I think Astronomy Domine sounds better with Dave and Rick versus the original with Syd and Rick.

David and Rick were such loyal friends; I'm sure you heard that David didn't want to play Echoes after Rick's passing because he felt the song was a musical conversation between them.

In the third verse, i love the use of the phrase "inviting and inciting me..." It is a direct borrow from the Beatles, "Across the Universe," which had come out 2 years before. If you watch the Live at Pompeii version, either Wright or Gilmore reverses so one of then sings "inciting and inviting" while the other songs it correctly. If you look real closely right after, Gilmore gives a slight smirk. Make me smile every time.

So much fun to share this experience with you. I wish you wouldn't apologize for stopping the music and sharing your thoughts. But I suppose you're maybe sensitive about that because so many commenters give you a hard time. I wish they would just enjoy what you do and if they don't have anything nice to say they should avoid wasting their time typing out negative crap.
It was fun to hear your thoughts. I absolutely love the space that Nick creates with his drumming. I just think of how he looks in the Pompei movie playing this and I think of Roger's quote in that movie about how Pink Floyd's music isn't so much about the notes they play, it's more about the spaces between the notes. My paraphrase. Anyone who likes Floyd needs to watch that movie.

8:09 "We cower in our shelters with our hands over our ears
Lloyd-Webber's awful stuff runs for years and years and years
    An earthquake hits the theatre
    But the operetta lingers
Then the piano lid comes down
    And breaks his fucking fingers
    It's a miracle"

In the early 90s there was a European space exploration, during which they were able to pick up the sounds and vibrations that came from earth, those sounds are the same sounds the Floyd used on this more than 20 years earlier.

Gilmour is playing bass on the studio album . That’s why it’s sounds so good . Roger wasn’t the musician that could have the licks to play with these guys . He was only the lyricist . He left the music to Dave . But what a driving force he was with his words 🎉

Thanks for the reaction!! My first Pink Floyd album and the one that turned me into a Floydian back in 1972. A day doesn't pass that I don't listen to Floyd. There cure what ailments. If you want to know where the weird sounds came from listen to their Ummugumma album. It is a total experiment with sound, and you can hear the Syd Barret influence. I read years ago that they developed the quadraphonic sound system, and I understand their concerts are basically in surround sound. Unfortunately, I never got to see my all-time favorite band. Thanks again for the reaction.

Sifa said "Space Echo" 🥰 As a guy who owned a Roland Space Echo in the days when Guitar Center had them in stock, I can say that with my Space Echo, my ARP Odyssey and a bit of effort I think I could reproduce the sounds from the trippy part of Echoes. A Hammond B3 would be useful too.
I loved my Space Echo - should never have let it get away from me.

My first and all time favorite Floyd album. I remember being a young teen and stealing a little bud from my older brothers stash in his room, then sneaking a bowl, walking barefoot outside with this playing through the open windows, grass around my toes, feeling the breeze on my face and looking around at everything.

My choice for their best song/epic, after exploring space and experimental music and doing movie soundtracks post Syd Barrett, their sound seemed to crystallize on Meddle. It was a launching pad to future albums and epics that would cement them as one of the best bands ever. For me, the Echoes journey should also include live video classic versions at Pompeii 1972 in their prime and when David had Richard in his band for the On An Island album and tour, see them do Echoes live in Gdansk 2006. It is one last tour for them with this song and quite emotional, worth viewing. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

If you really do love this song which I think you do like all of us do you definitely need to check out David Gilmour live in Gdansk 2006!!! That's the last time this was performed live with David Gilmour and Richard Wright and the Polish philharmonic orchestra!! It's the closest to the original audio recording I've ever seen played live but does sound a bit different here and there but still almost perfect!! If not reacting to it just listen and watch for yourself!
