    merci....

Beethoven's raw power at such an early opus.

Aveva 66 anni.
Lieve ti sia la terra, Maestro!

A sonoridade do nosso Meneses/ violoncelo é de reconhecimento universal!

    Very good performance.
Unfortunately I don't agree with the tempo of the first movement, it is too slow. They are thinking of it in eighth notes when it's actually written in 4/4, this causes the pauses that occur at the end (from 5:14 to the beginning of the second movement) or they are very long (if you count the time entirely) or they have to be shortened.

I absolutely love the drama of those pauses--and I love this tempo--so I have to disagree, although I'm open to other possibilities. 🙂

Piano is too loud! Half stick would have been better. Recording engineer should have added a bit of compression. The piano sound is badly distorted in the high range. Especially when loud. Too bad. Nice playing!

I wonder if the audience had this impression too. My guess is that the piano was covering the cello a good portion of the sonata... But as you said, undeniably great playing!

Not true. Mix is perfect... Moreover, I never heard this pianopart played with more delicacy and lyricism than here. From the heart ! 😊👍👍😊

In the performance of this sonata by Richter and Rostropovich that's on You Tube, Richter plays with the piano closed. THAT is in artistic service to the music. The resulting balance is perfect.

What's so horrible about the technique? And who's technique, Pires or Meneses?

If this is "horrible technique", then I can't wait to see good technique. Can you please give the link to your recording? ;-)
