- Shame, embarrassment, and depression almost stopped this cleaning from happening. This year was marked by lots of changes, serious sickness and loss. It was scary to let us in and open up. But she had the courage to accept help.
This is a different kind of cleaning video from what we usually do. We're sharing this video because it's normal for more extreme cleaning we've done for people. Shame. Embarrassment. Wanting to hide. But the hope and changes are why we clean. We like the challenge.
Our time and budget ran out too fast but we hope to do more of these extreme cleaning videos. Let us know in the comments if you want us to. We really hope to find someone willing to talk on camera.

Whew- as a breast cancer survivor I really feel for this lady plus she has all the grief over the deaths of her loved ones. You really do want to crawl into a hole. Praying for her.
Thank you for being the first comment and for your compassion. I was nervous to read it but I didn’t need to be. I hope people realize that there’s often trauma behind the messes and to be gentle.
I have a loved one that is stage 4 breast cancer and it’s been a roller coaster. The things she enjoyed and regular routine has almost disappeared. We don’t want to lose her but we don’t know what we can to help her beat cancer.

Oh my gosh, this woman has been (and is going) through it. I feel terrible for her. I had a serious illness at the end of 2021 and could barely get out of bed. My mom wanted to hire a cleaner to just come in once a week to do the basics but I was so ashamed that I couldn't even clean my own floors. I can't imagine how hard it was for your client to let you come. You're a blessing. ❤

I really feel for this woman! What a heavy load she has laid on her. What a gift you have given her. I wish her & others could wipe away any shame they feel. It is completely understandable how overwhelming life can get even with just a fraction of the challenges she encountered.
Seeing the trash bag covering the sink of dishes broke my heart in two. I could feel her shame. She's had so much pain and trauma on top of her health issues. I'm rooting for her. I hope she continues with some therapy.
It is so heartbreaking. She was so brave to allow us in her home and open up the way she did. When we spoke last it sounded like she was letting more old friends back into her life, so I’m hopefully she’s going to continue to accept love and support for her community and professionals.
I love to clean and organize. I wish I knew someone that needed help like this.
You could ask in a local Facebook group if people knew anyone who needs help. Or if they do.
What a brave warrior she is !!! Having the voiceover be the commentary was such a beautiful thing, and I feel blessed to have heard her voice and words.
She was incredibly brave. An absolutely strong and beautiful soul. I’m so glad to see so many of these comments are full of empathy, understanding, and support. People like you are exactly what this world needs more of.
Please do more videos like this and maybe the expert can input her knowledge on what family can do to help other family members who are overwhelmed/depressed & in a similar situation to this person. Also your knowledge on what you use so others can try helping family…. Thank you. Thoughts & prayers to this woman & really appreciate her doing this.

Wow. Anyone who thinks they are having a rough time need to check out this lady’s healthcare and family loss history.
Thank you to all of you, especially to the lady who lives in the home….. major health issues - grief- trauma….Can make basic functions in life so difficult. It’s not just you and you have reminded me that it’s not my fault ❤ nor is it yours.

Listening to the conversation, I could identify with this lovely lady who is struggling with what life has dished up to her. I also feel embarrassed about the state of my house and, even though I have had a number of friends offer help, I just can’t let them in. I find it easier to leave the house for a few hours, therefore leaving behind the mess, but unfortunately it’s still there when I come home. I suffer from severe depression and anxiety and the feeling of shame and guilt, together with embarrassment, is overwhelming. I hope one day to be able to claim back my home and my life. In the meantime, I wish this lovely lady all the best with her recovery. With best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🇦🇺.

Oh I wish I could help this lady too. She is dealing with multiple traumatic issues. I don't want to shame her, I want to applaud her for still living.

You are so blessed to give this help. May it give you peace and joy. When I start to feel down I try to find something useful to do for someone who is behind. What you did is remarkably kind and giving.
10 Years ago I was undergoing cancer treatment. For almost a year I was receiving chemo and radiation. If it hadn't been for my blessed sister and husband I don't know I would have the where with all to do anything at all.. Going back and forth to the hospital was about all I could manage. Some days I was so sick and wiped out I barely navigate around my home let alone clean anything. This poor woman needs all the help she can get.
I went through stage 3 ovarian cancer in 2020. Gosh, there were days when the pain was so much. I developed neuropathy in my hands and feet. I remember after my 4th day of chemo, I just wanted to die. The pain. I didn't sleep for 3 days. This lady really suffers.

People get into a downward cycle of shame and embarrassment. She needed help that she was afraid to get because of the fear of judgement. I could hear in her voice how this one day of cleaning helped her feel like she could start moving towards feeling and doing better. You can do it my dear. Thank you to the ladies that helped her get to a starting place. 💜

Haven't watched the whole video yet, so I may be speaking too soon, but once the people who are helping this lady get her house clean are gone, she is still going to need (due to her health issues) others continually helping her to be able to keep it clean. I hope that has been addressed, but will continue watching the video to find out.

I find it helps to tell myself , if I am able to get something out to eat or something that I need to use despite grief or sickness, I am capable of putting it back or washing it . That self talk really helps .
It really does help! My family has been sick and we didn’t clean up because we didn’t have energy to get out of bed.
But as soon as we started getting enough energy, we cleaned up. It really lifts your spirit and it smells so good.
I also use self talk (example: Janet, you can sit down after you hang up your coat). It really helps!!
I wonder if she is able to qualify for disability with cancer? Disability can be a really long process sometimes, but going through chemo sometimes people genuinely have no energy and often need care.

I wish we could get rid of the stigma. I have had people assume I live in squaller because of my mental health and struggling has looked similar to this. My mother had a time in which she lost her husband to cancer and battling it herself. Everything fell apa4t and asking for help was just too embarrassing because of all those judgmental idiots out there....
Ugh. I wish we could all just acknowledge that we don’t know what we don’t know instead of judging others based on our own perceptions and projections. I had a horrendously messy and even broken house for several years in grad school as a single mom and as part of being in an abusing relationship. I was so embarrassed to let anyone in and it just made life so lonely. It really shouldn’t be a concern at all. ❤

I can totally understand why this happened. Add the depression and you can sink but try to swim, but still sink.
Does she not have a home health person come in? Not necessarily a nurse, but someone who comes and helps her with day to day task, chores, and errands. Before I became a nurse, I did this for my grandmother and a few other elderly. A few ppl I knew did this for those who where in her situation. Insurance sometimes covers these things and some companies have help to cover cost. I’m from a very rural area though, so I don’t know if that makes a difference

I think I would pile all the dishes out of the kitchen somewhere until I had the cupboards cleaned out. Where are you going to put the dishes once they are washed?

I don’t put their info because they’re very local. Also, the owner said she’d donate her time but then charged for it and more than agreed on. Plus people didn’t show up and they could only stay for 3 hours. Which meant instead of filming I cleaned the whole time too and got ok footage. We didn’t finish.
Overall I wasn’t impressed and when I spoke to her about it, she didn’t seem to care.
I wish it were different because we were going to do more with together. I was so disappointed…
I wonder if she would qualify for some hours of home health. They could help keep things tidy.
There are a lot of reasons people can’t or won’t clean house and we as a society need to stop shaming them. We don’t know what we don’t know.

Safe to say you missed the parts about how hard daughter and father died soon after each other & how she often had many people over before depression and multiple chronic illnesses took over…??
Maybe now that things are under control, she can take up those friends on the offer to bring in a group to clean up what's left.

Wow it would help if she got her dishes down by about 75% and sent them to a thrift store, it wouldn’t be so overwhelming, and it sounds like she needs to be told that she has to help herself a bit more
She's exausted from CANCER and chronic conditions. She needed and still needs help. She does NOT deserve to be blamed she did not ask for cancer or her other health conditions that resulted in this she also didn't ask for her daughter to die. Telling people to help themselves more is victim blaming and it's disgusting.
I know this will help, I too am battling stage four cancer, and limiting items in my kitchen has helped, there are days I have a difficult time getting up but having limited items makes it easier to face

Yikes. Your kids are not your best friends. This is not just mental illness. This is a combination of having no personal accountability and being lazy as well. It’s interesting how the depression is not enough to prevent all of those activities that make the mess ….the depression is just there when the cleaning is required. Get a grip people and start holding people accountable for their sh1tty behaviour.
She babysits her granddaughter, a toddler. Not sure where the part about her kids not being her best friends applies. Her kids are adults and don’t live with her. One of them died last year. She’s helping out the other one by babysitting.
I don’t know how many she had but I think that’s it. I guess my message of compassion didn’t come through very clearly.
