- U.S. high school indoor national record holder Quincy Wilson lowered his outdoor personal best to 45.17 in a big win at the 2024 PUMA East Coast International Showcase. The PR comes just a week after the Bullis School (MD) sophomore logged two 44-second 4x400m anchor splits at the Penn Relays.

2, 16 year olds running under 46 is WILD. That Jayden Horton kid and Wilson are both 16 🤯
don't forget sidi he also runs a 45
@@youfellforthebait2555now Ervin does too
@@youfellforthebait2555 hes 17

F those Airhorns! Great job Quincy.
hahaha...I said, "damn, those damn airhorns!" Then I scrolled down and saw your comment...lmao!
To do this with that form is insane. I’m not even sure if he should fix it though. That second place finisher is a monster as well.
Very good observation and very good coaching thought
In HS back in the 1970’s there was an athlete ( name forgotten now , but it will come to me ) who ran +/- 1.50 HS 880’s . Very unusual form .
He ended up going to Rutgers where the coach changed the form to picture perfect and times went backwards to 1.51/1.52 .
Coach couldn’t figure it out . Then he said , let’s go back to your original form . After a bit of time the athlete was under 1.50 ( maybe 1.47 ish ) consistently .
It’s an interesting conundrum .
Form over result . I have seen the same in many sports
Maybe we have to start teaching kids to run like this lol
@@davidfriedfeld i think it has to do with his genetics and weight distribution as an athlete, everyone comes from a different genetic tree that yields different optimizations for athletics so it makes sense that perfect form varies somewhat
form is dependent on the biomechanics of the individual. there's no point chasing an 'ideal' form if it works against you. its more about wasted energy and symmetry of motion, and QW has no issues with either of those things. Nor did Michael Johnson.
outlaw the airhorns
This kids amazing. He took that “better get home before the street lights turn on” form and implemented into the track 😂
The Future 🔥
Blows me away. The last place runner was faster than I was in high school---and I was considered a fairly good 400 runner.
He's very well coached at Bullis. They have had tremendous runners, boys and girls, for years. Good student and great young man.
The one in the black and white was trying to hang with him though. If Quincy just grows an inch or 2 he'll be a beast.
That’s Jayden Horton Mims from Philly. He’s still a junior and has an amazing finish. Won Nike Indoor Nationals with an almost evenly-split 46.85. Fresh off a 45.13 anchor at Penn Relays and a couple raw 45’s as well. Jayden will be a name to watch for the foreseeable future.
@@carsongambaro Thanks. He's pretty good too. H*ll they all were to me.
Mims the beat Quincy in the 300 in indoor.
@@cheronw13 He did or he will?

Thanks for the attention to Quincy. He is a gift and a very nice kid to boot. He has great coaching and what a team environment. I hope he can get that at his next level.
So regarding the analysis, if you don't mind, a few talking points to consider.
Slow down the video with simple app like hudle and you will see he is not actually heel striking in a sense that has him running with gas and brakes on at same time. He lands with heel and mid foot coming in contact simultaneously during initial contact during slow motion and when fully loaded he is where he should be. But you are correct to say that because he can get a simple correction that would stop that heel contact which may create some resistance to forward motion. Look at the way he is Dori-flexing his foot during swing. He should keep that relaxed and neutral so when the foot strikes the heel isn't even there if that makes sense.
Regarding his heel kick, this is just because he has a massive stride length and hip angle. This is amazing that he can maintain that at around 220 strides per min turnover. Wow! also remember when that leg comes back he gets an auto free energy return forward from hip flexor and that auto flexes his trail knee and causes the the heel kick. He doesn't do that consciously and it is not coached. It's free energy from the stride. Same happens when you drive the arms back. There is free stored energy from the elastic end point that assists in driving forward.
The head tilt is tricky and on the surface neutral is technically best however there are other consideration that involve very personal anatomy. I don't know why he does that but I first consider the neurology. When he flexes his head forward he also is lengthening his posterior chain neurology. It is all connected. So let's say we fix his doors flexion in his foot. This will give us a little slack, maybe enough to bring his head forward without changing length of total neuro system. But his stride length must also be considered and we don't want to restrict that either. His flexed hip is also lengthening that chain as well. This is hypothetical of course as I have no idea if he has any restrictions there. If I was his athletic training at his school I would consider doing neuro-glides and make ankle/head adjustments with his coach. Then again I may just leave him alone because there is nothing broke on this kid and he seems to be consistently healthy. haha
Keep the videos coming and appreciate much.
I hope he doesn’t burn out. This is incredibly fast for that age.
Burnout depends upon many factors - coaching , injuries , mental pressure .
Many good athletes can “ get there “ early .
How long they can stay “there “ and how much better they can get is up to the individual athlete.
He is very nice to watch !
Wow! What a great future he has! Big congratulations 🍾🎉🎈
When I go to nationals I wanna meet Quincy
he has a youtube channel
I was at NB nationals to watch my cousin run and I saw Quincy there lol. Didn't see him run sadly
This dude crazy🤯🤯🤯
Mims seemed like he didn’t have another gear, he didn’t react when Quincy came up along side of him
Run your own race, that’s how you mess up
not supposed to run based on others
Know yourself and know what you can do
@@youfellforthebait2555 sometimes you should, running based on others can help you stay competitive
Mark my words he'll go sub 45 in the open 4 this season. It looked like he was jogging the first 150!
I'm sure he will go sub-45, but you are supposed to float the backstretch in order to conserve energy. He wasn't "jogging."
WE ALREADY KNOWIN
@@KW-wr3xvyou're right
Come on now all who ever ran the 400. This kid is generational. I love to to watch all his races.
The timeclock in the upper left corner is 8.5 SECONDS ahead of the actual time. Quincy Wilson ran the first 200m in about 21.6 seconds, not 30 seconds.
Wow dude keep on winning yep that's his race
The boy in 2nd place put up a good fight
Wow!!!
Ok what’s with all the horns.
The signature Jamaican airhorns
Last time I've seen a high school 400m sprinter hyped up like this was back when Michael Norman ran at Murrieta HS, and we all know how he turned out. Quincy has the potential to be an all-time great
I rather him turn into Michael Norman than what happened to Obea Moore. Grades and a minor injury he wouldn’t let heal derail his career.
Hopefully he sustains it and has someone to mentor him.
His style is far from smooth /natural looks forced injuries to happen soon.

Once Quincy Wilson chin go up, it's a wrap!!! 💨💨🏃🏽➡️
He's a big star shouldn't be running in this cold weather just diamond League Doha
Keep in mind this was in 50 degree and rainy conditions
He needs to save these races for states Nationals and the Olympic trials. His coach is racing him too much
i think you might be onto something..his times arent going anywhere at the moment. 45.76 10 march indoors should translate to a big sub 45 outdoors. he also ran a leg in the 4x400 on march 10th, then he ran 45.19 outdoors 29th march, a 44.4 and 44.7 relays splits over 2 days 29th and 30th march, and now this at 45.17. and he also ran a 46.69 opener on march 9..that's 7 400m races in just over 2 months.
and he's ran 11 times since mid january in fact..300s, 500s, 600s, 200s as well.
maybe this time had alot to do with the conditions..rain and 50F is very cold..
Does his time qualify him or give him the chance to compete at the Olympic trials 🤔🤔🤔
hes a freak but im surprised this was this 'slow'. he ran 45.76 indoors and a 45.19 outdoors in late march..then a sub 44.5 and a 44.7 relay leg 2 weeks ago. i hope he's not hit his peak already..i was hoping to see a 44.5 outdoor 400 from him this year..
all this young man has accomplished and all u can say is you're disappointed. RELAX, it"s coming.
What tf is all that noise?
Those damn horns should not be allowed, ill be so annoyed if was in attendance
I hope he is not using inhancments
there's always someone who says this- give it a break!. the kid's just turned 16 and improves every time he races. WTH would he be using anything right now?!
At least SOMEONE showed this race for free. High School races should NOT cost money to watch. They don't get paid to run, so why should we pay to watch?
Fr 😤
Good run yall putting too much pressure on that kid and then he go be burned out by 4 years
all that DAMNED NOISE...could barely stand it on video review...Lawd, if I'd paid to attend I'd still be sick 🤒🤢🤮
All the noise is ridiculous and F-ing annoying
if i was running a race with the horns i would be nervos
To run a 47 in HS and not get top 3 is 🍌’s
Quincy not new to this at all. Kid been making noise since a pee wee.
Quit making him run against himself , have him run pro races to give him spice and push himself for improvement while he’s young
I hope he is not over-raced and his potential ruined
Who is his coach? Why is this kid running every week.
Over training is real
exactly what i am thinking... i hope he doesn't turn up at the US Olympic trials and burn out like obea Moore did. i hope the best for him.
Damn air horns annoying AF
Forced running not smooth natural running at all, looks like injuries in the making wait and see he is done in 2 years.
His 16! Lol he ain’t getting injured anytime soon
@@desilorajr2713 yeah they need to put there body under more stress to get better
Everyone is critic…
he runs as smooth as butter and in a way that's efficient for his body. you dont run 45.1 at 16 unless everything is about right.
That's one of the ugliest great runs I've seen in a long time.
yeah, his form leaves much to be desired. Maybe the coach is afraid to adjust it with all of his success.
