  • See how the Euro-Peds Foundation enables children and young adults with gross motor disorders to develop new skills, increase mobility, build confidence and more independence through intensive physical therapy.
"As parents, you have big dreams for your kids. For Korie, they start at Euro-Peds," says her mom. Intensive pediatric physical therapy has changed this adorable, spunky girl's life with Spina Bifida.
Euro-Peds opened its doors as the first intensive physical therapy clinic in 1999. Since then, thousands of families throughout the U.S. and beyond have called the PT pioneer in S.E. Michigan "their home away from home."
Using European inspired therapies, including the Universal Exercise Unit and patented suit therapy, therapists work one-on-one with patients who have cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, spina bifida and a variety of other gross motor disorders to optimize motor training and significantly improve motor skills. Sessions in private treatment rooms range from 1.5 - 4 hours for up to 5 days per week over several weeks. The clinic also has programs for local patients who visit 2 - 3 times per week over several months.
Each patient has a team of PTs, PTAs and aides to keep sessions fun. Detailed home exercise programs with photos, videos and directions also are part of every program to ensure development long after a child's in-person session.
Euro-Peds accepts many insurances. However, families may have large insurance deductibles, large co-pays or no coverage... the Euro-Peds Foundation is a resource. Visit www.europedsfoundation.org to learn more about EPF treatment and travel grants then complete a no cost, no commitment program application at www.europeds.org. It's the first step towards securing a grant.

If any parents of a Spina Bifida patient with the injury at the spina that they will need a wheelchair in time, the parents need to find another doctor. Only intense physical therapy, at a clinic as well as at home, aimed at getting the child to walk will help the child improve. Even if they do not get where they can walk they will at least be able to stand up and lift their legs and do leg exercises while setting or lying down, maintaining their health even if in a wheelchair.
