- This is the FIRST Beehive Style Firewood Stacking ever made in Japan.
You do not need a expensive covers, I have used my old picnic sheet on the ground and top of the holz hausen.
It took me about 1month totally from cutting wood to finish.
Just stacking the Beehive maby takes just 3 to 5 day.
If you dont care much about its design, it could be done in one day.
We are located at Kaida Kogen, Kiso-machi, Nagano Japan.
1300m high and very close to Ontake Mountain.
One of the coldest place in Japan and many Ski resorts around us.
There is no air conditioning in my house, so it is fatal to make firewoods in summer time to prepare for the winter.

a firewood pile this beautiful is hard to tear down. Several great tips - I really appreciate sharing the whole process, with explanations. Best construction video on youtube. In my opinion, a vapor barrier is not only a great idea, its a "must." Covering ~80 sq ft of ground with wood ensures humidity will be trapped. I recommend using solid 6mil polyethylene barrier. Place plastic over a convex layer pile pea gravel, so any water that leaks through the roof will not be trapped under the pile. Ideal to layer more stone over the vapor barrier to protect from perforation. I also recommend less height, and plumb walls, so you can build a slight overhang on the roof, minimizing the water dripping off the roof onto the sides of the pile. Shorter walls allows easier access to the roof, and less chance an avalanche will cause injury. Use bark slab to build a shaker roof, layering in pieces of 15 lb felt to minimize leaks while allowing air to flow through the top of the pile. I would not use plastic on top. Plastic roof will trap humidity in the wrong place. Thank you for sharing your video. Beautiful work.

@@NL-Happiness this winter I used and sold wood from my first round pile, built in 2017. Most of the wood was still in very good condition. Some was rotting. Three years of storage might be at life limit.
