You, my dear, are an EXCELLENT teacher!!! I am a beginner and all I can say is that as you age, you just don't grasp things like you used to, whether it's your memory or understanding...I have no difficulty with your style of teaching in any respect. Trust me, I've watched tons & tons of tutorials and without a doubt, you are the best! That means so much to me as I try to fill in these long days of mine. THANK YOU Kristy!

Thanks Kristy! I feel like when you're a beginner every piece of watercolour paper is precious and you don't want to waste them on the practice that you know you really need! So I love how you used the back of these pages from your water colouring book! What a great idea! Thank you :)

Kristy! I’ve been looking where to put this review for your joy of art brushes....I’m IN LOVE with these.
I mean even better than my Princeton’s. Oh my it’s not always the artist but the brushes and tools you use.
I love your quirky ways and have learned a lot from you. Thank you.
I just can’t stress to everyone ( I’m not getting a kickback y’all ) just how wonderful they are.
With these I’ve put away my other brushes and only using your set of 6.
I’ll be your advocate with how great they are. I will be getting more. Yours is inexpensive enough I could stretch my strict budget and buy them.

Never in my life would it ever occur to me to paint with the sides of a paint brush, or just the tip, or ..... a lot of things. These brush stroke exercises are brilliant & a great way to learn the full potential of a brush! It also feels, oddly (cuz it was unexpected), liberating, tho I'm not yet sure why that is.

I hope you still see these comments, I am a newer sub and let me just say, the reason you named about such strict teachers is why I could never take art classes. I could watch the Master Bob at work for hours but never ever get through an art class. I am SO GLAD I found you!!

I am enjoying mark making since I have upgraded to professional grade brushes. Student brushes (cheap synthetic) made things difficult at first, but I love daggers and my new one is lovely. I may still get the Royal 1/4 later, but the SBV is stunning ;-) Thank you for this, I am watching it again, letting a layer dry.

This looks like fun! Thank you for the demo. My friend and I bought dagger brushes (same as yours) and I have to say that the bristles separate a lot. We might like the brushes better if the bristles didn't do that--your's don't seem to do what each of ours do so we're a little bummed about it. We might consider buying new ones, but feel like it would be Russian roulette as to whether we got better ones or not. That triangular brush looks interesting though!

    • @KristyRice

I have an "arsenal" of various brands and sizes of daggers. they do it all.
only one brush in appropriate size per painting. thing is I abuse them and they aren't carried Brick and mortar. I'm surprised u didn't show how well it does grasses dryish on side upsweep or, really, how well it replaces a rigger.... much more controllable and precise/fine... depending on brand I (and THAT is critical) while a rigger only does one thing really. Oh, I see you did with triangular but dagger was held at wrong angle for fine rigging work. I used to use those as they were readily available but, then, I found daggers and they're much preferred for me. Thanks for the demo.

Thank you Kristy for this demonstration. I am fairly new to water coloring and I do like the daggers. However I am interested in the Rosemary triangular brush you showed but when I clicked on the link the prices were in pounds instead of dollars so I am assuming (they say you should never so that)they are a British company. Are they sold anywhere at all in the U.S.? I don't want to purchase a $10.00 brush and have to pay that much or more for shipping. Again Thank you. I absolutely love your work over at Momental.

why do you feel the need to have 100 colors.....?
You can get all those colors from a few. main colors... and more importantly People cant usually afford 100 paint tubes at 25$a pop...
    I wouldnt encourage that!

    • @KristyRice
      @KristyRice  Před 7 lety +2

I personally don't like taking the time to mix colors, it is not something I encourage beginners to get super tangled up in because it can be stressful and take away from the joy of the painting experience. I encourage painters to purchase tubes of paint collectively so that the costs are spread amongst 5-7 people per tube. Also what type of watercolors are you using that are $25 a pop!!?
