Really captures the feel of a dying empire fighting desperately and ferociously with its last breaths
You should listen to 'Legions of the west'
It wasn't dying at all when I played as WRE in Attila. In fact it was very much alive and kicking!
Present your shield, swords, arrows, and spears to them, imagining that you are a hunting party after wild boars, so that the impious may learn that they are dealing not with dumb animals but with their lords and masters, the descendants of the Greeks and the Romans! - Constantine XI, 1453.
Yesss this is exactly what it always evoked in me. This song should play over a video summary of Aurelian's career.
It captures the essence of a once mighty empire, now in its last breath, summoning it's ancient might to fight back
And behold a red horse, and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth. The air was filled with smoke and blood... they made ready for war...
Isn't this from the sassanid trailer?
@@amp8295 It's actually taken from the Bible, the book of apocalypse. It describes the 1st rider of the apocalypse... War.
EDIT: It's actually the second rider. Thank you for the correction.
@Aleksa Petrovic You are totally right, my bad.
Ah Rome, the eternal city
I have seen the end of days
And years from now men will say
Here began the fall of Rome
I've read this comment in that old man's voice.
The real Red Horse in this game is the Scout Equites
virgin mounted warband that can't even fucking penetrate a sword unit vs chad scout equites demolishing 3000 men from the back with only 80 men
Worse attack and defense than literal starving peasants. Less armor than literally naked barbarian hobos. Less morale than literal teenagers with bows. Weak, cheap, and frail.
Yet they are amongst the most infamous and important units in the game. Those who bear the sock on their heads hold the line against the traitors, barbarians, huns, and invading empires. They stand as the sole reason why it is possible to protect the Roman empire and its legacy. They are your one tool to turn the tide of battle at a crucial moment.
@@StarFoth That "sock" on their head is frygian cap, that means those horsemen are Thracians, one of the greatest cavalrymen and soldiers as a whole, that the Roman Empire ever deployed. Lightly armed or not, historically the Thracian mercenaries were the only one who signed individual contracts and were not hired in bulk. It is needless to say that they were amongst to the most well paid warriors available.
@@stefanstoyanov7460 yeah but also no, by this time, Phrygian caps (which originated in, you know, phrygia most likely) were really widespread across Europe, and even more by the 5th century. The germans wore them, the romans wore them, groups like the iazyges likely wore them, though alot of phrygians looked alot more like the ones you'd see anglo saxons wearing, by this time, atleast in Western Europe.
@@OceanSea12 Yeah, but also, no. At that time only thracian descendants and free roman citizens wore those caps in order to distinguish themselves from the servi (slaves).
The barbarians started to wore them after the fall of the western roman empire in ordert associate with the glory of it and to claim to be their heirs. The cap was used untill the dawn of the renaissance era, although it was no longer called phrygian cap, in some german texts from that era they were called burhger (citizen) cap. Also it lost its pointy top at some point of time.
In the era the game is set, romans would use helmets, or if they were too poor to affort one, they would wrap their head in several lairs of cloth, resulting into somethig that vagely reminds of a turban.
The thracians wore phrygian caps or helmets styled like the cap because in battle they wore their hair in a hairstyle called kika. They believed that if they fall in battle their sky father Atys/Papayos will grab them by the kika and pull them to the heavens by it.
So no, they are all thracians.

It's much worse when you play with the fall of the eagles mod.

So i decided to play the ERE but sticking with my roman brothers. I destroyed the both gothic barbarians, and sended an army from Egypt to Africa with the idea of destroying Garmatian and pacify the western part of Africa. Now the WRE resists around Spain instead of colapsing and disapearing.
Edit:I also destroyed the franks, the saxons, recovered france and southern britannia.
Edit 2:Also i went with two armies to destroy completely the Sassanids.

The advisor in Attila is better than in Rome 2 imo even though Rome 2 has mark strong
"... And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from Earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him" ("Revelation" 6:3-4)

I ve been looking for this one for 2 months.
Started playing this while playing Wargame. As my tanks, APCs, and infantry advance through heavy enemy fire, supported by attack helicopters and close air support, with enemy warplanes being shot down by tracked AA guns and SAMs and heavy artillery hammering the enemy positions and this track blasting in the background through all of it. I swear, it is glorious.
Death is only change, and change is natures delight.
Are you playing Wargame: Red Dragon?
To put it bluntly, Attila may be the third game in the series in terms of music, after Medieval 2 and Rome.
Medieval 2 is lack luster.
Flavius Aetius charging into the hunnic horde!! For the glory of Rome and the sake of Europe!
And fails 😂
@@pedroh2671 He did not stopped them. Later Huns defeated Rome again and Pope had to beg to Attila for not to conquer Rome. So he actually failed to stop Huns at all
@@oghuzkhan6136 As Huns failed to destroy Rome as well.
@@bobafett9348 Didnt fail exactly. He would have destroyed it if he wanted it. He decided to go back instead of continue to plunder. But few years after Western Rome collapsed so it wouldnt be too hard for Attila to crush it. I personally think that he didnt think it would be not profitable for him to end Rome. He wouldnt get anything from that. So he taxed Rome instead of that.

How to have an easier time as the Western Roman Empire :
1. Abandon all settlements except the ones in Italy.
2. Deal with the rebellions in Italy.
3. Convert back to Graeco-Romano Paganism.
4. Carve your empire from the ashes of what once was yours.
boring as fuck.
How to have a fun time as the Western Roman Empire :
1. Fight. Fight. Fight. An enemy who loses half their army to a garrison cannot take much land.
2. Kill all traitors without mercy.
3. Convert to Celtic Paganism to show you have a big dick.
4. Conquer the Eastern Roman Empire.

Lutting dude and equites dalmatae 😉
Lutting dude i dislike the elite palatin
'Elite' Palatina.
Has only 99 health and sub-par armour rating of 25 for an 'elite' unit with such a high upkeep. Is only Medium Melee and therefore more likely to be flattened by cavalry. Charge bonus is not high enough to make them fill the role of a shock infantry unit. Not resistant to fatigue.
The only thing going for them is the slightly faster movement as compared to Comitatenses, ability to use shield wall effectively with high AP damage heavy spathas and the high melee attack really. I might be underestimating their abilities, and granted, they are better than the crappy melee infantry that ERE has. (I dislike ERE in general but that's another story) But imo WRE has a lot better melee options than 'Elite' Palatini.
Volcano4981 im agree !
I like their unit design but they perform like shit for the price. They literally always take heavy casualties while fighting anything that is dedicated for going into melee, and even in shield wall, heavy shock calvary and shock infantry will plow through them like they are paper.
I would absolutely love to see a music video version of this performed by Lindsey Stirling and The Hu.
It should feature Emperor Aurelian/Majorian. This song echoes the sentiments of a mighty ancient empire close to collapse making a list valiant effort

Sad how proper horse archer maneuvering renders badass heavy cavalry charges obsolete
I mean, it's how it was. Don't forget the reason why the Huns were so devastating was because nobody could catch the fuckers.
*Laughs in stationary testudo
@@thepuppelpuppel4175 from wikipedia "Battle of Carrhae" page: The Romans repeatedly advanced towards the Parthians to attempt to engage in close-quarters fighting, but the horse archers were always able to retreat safely, loosing Parthian shots as they withdrew. The legionaries then formed the testudo formation, in which they locked their shields together to present a nearly impenetrable front to missiles.[26] However, this formation severely restricted their ability in melee combat. The Parthian cataphracts exploited this weakness and repeatedly charged the Roman line, causing panic and inflicting heavy casualties.[27] When the Romans tried to loosen up their formation in order to repel the cataphracts, the latter rapidly retreated and the horse archers resumed shooting at the now more exposed legionaries
