    After reading some of the comments. I felt I wanted to write you and just say, "THANKS!!!".

    Great video. I got a lot out of this. What more can I ask for. Thank you.

    According to GlideCam, you should be holding the stem just below the gimbal, not at the bottom. If you hold the bottom, it reduces the glidecam's ability to correctly use it's counter balance weights.

    • @fhehle
      @fhehle Před 10 lety +24

      I was just about to say the same thing ;) It's more stable when you're just below the gimbal... but then it's also a bit harder to control, especially when you want to film up or down quickly. I use a combination of both when necessary.

      I was also thinking the same. I feel holding it from the very bottom gives it more of a monopod feel while holding it right below the gimbal makes corrections smoother and more fluid.

    I truly admire this guy for showing us how to move using the Glidecam, without a single spoken word. Very impressive indeed because movement is the fundamental element in getting the best out of the stabiliser, and it was generous of him to show us his style and tips on how to use the stabiliser. This video, after seeing dozens on the subject, is the best in actually showing you, instead of just talking about operating Glidecam, and the results speak for themselves, in this effective video.
    One thing I will add however, I have found if you hone your movements and practice as much as possible you will find no need for post processing. The Glidecam, indeed any stabiliser out there on the market currently, is only as good as the cameraman.
    Fantastic tutorial, well done! :)

    It's so cool, you can explain things so good (and in a funny way too), though you don't speak. With that body langugage it's like a better connection between people. It's much easier to understand. Keep it up! :)

    I just got a bought a glidecam hd-2000 recently and I've watched many "how to" videos, and this has to be the best. He focuses more on showing you what to do with his body movements rather than his words or so to speak. I tend to focus more on what he is doing rather than trying to focus on his body movements while trying to listen at the same time. Great vid!

    I admire this guy so much! His motivation to teach others is amazing, not even incuding the fact that he is deaf, which only makes it more impressive. Now im not saying he is wrong, but here is what ive learned using a Glidecam HD-2000 for the past year. First off, if you dont balance it perfectly before you use it, your shots will be garbage. So learn to proberly balance it before each use. Second, guiding the glidecam with your freehand near the bottom of the post, completely voids the concept of the stabilizer. I always put two fingers and my thumb right under the gimbal, so the glidecam had room to stabilize the camera. He also has his "drop time" (time it takes the stabilizer to fall from a horizontal position, to vertical) wayyyy too fast. It should gently fall when he releases his free hand, not swing back and forth as fast as his does. Using a glidecam takes time. But other then that I loved the video! Happy Gliding!!!

    • @pluma1111
      @pluma1111 Před 6 lety

      Hey, you are the first commenter that makes sense to me. I thought the same about the drop time, but I have the same problem or worse. The trouble is, I need the Neewer stabilizer not as much for my DSLR, but for a very light Panasonic camcorder with the screen flipped out. Now, balancing the camcorder sidewise is not too much of a problem, since I just need to move it left on the plate to counterbalance the weight of the screen. But I'm wondering how many weights I should be using. The camera is so light that my drop time is one second, no matter how balanced it is. I have ended up using just ONE weight on the front (no weight in the back) and just displace the camera back on the plate to counterbalance the weight of that one weight. I see with DSLRs the camera goes parallel to the weight-bracket, but I read somewhere with camcorders, the camera should be mounted perpendicular to the weight bracket. Lastly but not least, no matter how much effort I make to hold the rod near the gimble (or anywhere else for that matter- when I'm walking it begins to pendulate sideways., and because the camera is light, it swings a lot. I was thinking about perhaps adding one of the weights to the top, to make it heavier... but there is no way to do so without risking the camera getting detached and destroyed. Also, when trying to film in a vertical pattern, bringing the stabilizer lowly up and down, it doesn't go too far before my hand ends up crashing to the plate where the camera is sitting, as if the grip was too close to the plate to begin with, as if it had not been installed in the right position. Or I'm doing something definitely wrong. I appreciate any feedback and any help since it s the first time i use an stabilizer.

    Thanks to X Teraphim as well, you are the first one to point out Dynamic balancing on Glide cam to the public and turn the stabilize function off.( on camera /camcorder) No one so far as I can search on web. To me this dynamic balancing is the most important key for any mechanical stabilizer.When you walk or run the counter weights to the camera should keep in minimum swing(the less is the better-stabile).you donn't have to holding the post most of the time to control swing away because of the momentum initial.Please keep input the good tips.
