I love these videos, but by way of explaining (takes a deep breath)... Even with copyrights reverting to the way they were in 1976, the Wednesday Addams property would still fall under the ownership of the Addams estate (no, not the creepy mansion but the family of Charles Addams, creator of the Addams family, who died in 1988 and whose copyright would last until 2038). Still, this obviously constitutes fair use like most satirical series we see online, right? Yes, until we see that the mistake didn't come from the CZcams videos themselves but rather from marketing them on Kickstarter. If Ms. Hunter had produced the videos using her own capital and distributed them for free on CZcams, there would be no problem. But I think the error might have come when her team asked for money using the character and produced merchandise bearing the character's name and image. Again, this merchandise was not given as merely a thank you for contributions (contributions whose solicitation were already on shaky legal ground), because that would have required a "no purchase necessary" disclaimer where technically you could receive the items without a contribution, but instead were marketed as gifts given exclusively to contributors only if they funded the production of these videos. Then there is the question of whether the producers (Ms. Hunter and her production team) profited financially in any way from these contributions. Now there are many ways around this, and even then there might have been a pushback from the legal owners, but Ms. Hunter could have fought them and prevailed given the proper legal advice. If, for instance, her fund raising campaign had focused on her CZcams channel as an umbrella project under which AWA would be but one of the offerings, and if she didn't directly use the name and image to solicit funds, then she would have stood a better chance.

Went to watch Wednesday on Netflix, thinking it was actually a full length episode of this series, to realize not only was I severely disappointed to not get more of the above awesome content, I wasted $19.99 on a show that's done horribly at copying this one!! Its always worth it love. For instance the selfish diaperstains who said you cant do this show anymore. Because yes Adams Family is such a lucrative franchise and god forbid they weren't getting paid for it. Trust me gorgeous, its worth it.
