- Singer Les Gray (1946 - 2004) from the glamrockband Mud tells about the song 'Dyna-mite'. A short documentary by Top 2000 a gogo from 2002 (Dutch Public Television).

Saw them Jan 1974 in Coventry and they were number 1 with Tiger feet and brilliant live
I had my stag weekend in Blackpool in 1983 and the club we went in had Mud on. Les was in great form. It was way before his illness and he sang all their hits. None of the other original lads were still in the band though, but it was a great night, from my hazy memory.
Me and my ex missus saw Mud at The Cock Hotel in Ripley, Derbyshire just before they made the Big Time. A week or so later, we saw them on TOTP on the tele.

Yes, so sad that Les and also Brian Connolly from Sweet suffered health-wise and that both men died at relatively young ages.

This is supposed to be the story behind the song, but what it didn't tell you was that Dynamite was written for Sweet but they didn't want it. It's not a typical Mud song, but you can easily imagine Sweet playing it.

Sweet also turned down 'Tiger Feet' which ironically kept 'Teenage Rampage' from the number 1 position !
At this stage when filmed les was a shadow of himself and the band wasn't up to much BUT I saw him in a small club near Lyme Regis about 1983 and he pulled the roof down.the crowed went wild.thats the measure of the man

Mud rocking on top of the pops......a mad looking geezer who had everyone in his pocket with half a beard and a kilt on presenting it....me watching age 11.... The leader on his motorbike....Marc singer about jungle faced jake.... Those were the innocent care free dayz....
Sad to see such a great singer who brought so much music is not here, but his music will live on.

Me and the ex Mrs. saw Mud at the Cock Hotel, Ripley, Derbyshire about a week or so before they appeared on Top Of The Pops and made the big time.
Fun Fact: although they were already a great Live Band, on their first two singles they weren't allowed to play. By Dynamite and Tiger Feet they'd vastly improved, and did play for real.

I honestely thought Les died much younger than he is shown here, funny how your mind plays tricks. They were fun but it didnt look like fun at the end for Les, his attitude was great though
Using a walking stick on stage didn't do much for his rocker image, but credit to him for doing what he could while he could.

I remember, along with others, booing this band off the stage in Cardiff Students Union back in 1980. They were just terrible and sounded nothing like their recordings. Watching this perhaps you can see why.
