  • Hello!
Can the young pretender, the INT650 stake a claim to the crown and prise it away from the old Emperor?
In this video I share the ownership and ride experience of a legendary motorcycle, the Yamaha RD350 from the 1980s alongside the legend in the making, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
The old Emperor, the RD350 is in its 40s and the new young king the Interceptor 650 is just starting out its reign. So, we find out today if the old Emperor has a worthy successor in the INT650.
We put both the motorcycles thought some simple tests to determine if the old Emperor can still stand up to today's demands.
Plus, we have the owners of these two motorcycles share their ownership experiences. So, stay tuned and find out if the young pretender has earned the right to take the crown.
    Hope you enjoy this video.
    Cheers!

The unmistakable exhaust note of the RD 350 evokes strong emotions and nostalgia among folk associated with motorcycles in the 1980’s.
Thank you, Bosky, for taking me back in time. Compliments to the owner for preserving this legend.

About the CDI honestly I do not recollect the details and all I remember is that is was developed by a popular technician here in Bangalore and he has retired since so unable to get more details. Although there are still a couple of experienced technicians who do a great job on the RD. Cheers!

reaching 160-170kmph on a good day, nevertheless time has done a toll on the bike good to see it still holding up.❤️

In 2016, when my parents finally agreed to get me a bike, I was sort of considering one of these which would've been 1.5-2L at the time. But I ended up getting a KTM RC200 which was definitely a lot less of a hassle as it was my first motorcycle. Now though, that same bike is worth arond 4-5L in the used market. If only I'd known, I could've got paid back twice over for using that bike in 4 years. Lets hope the same happens with my Interceptor.

I have owned one RD 350 between 2000-2003 period and it was mind blowing. But it also blew away a major chunk of my salary every month (and unfortunately I was earning a pittance back then!)..
Now you won't believe but back then, I purchased it for just about ₹26000 (that was a lot of money for a used bike at that point!)...I spent at least equal or more than that to maintain it and eventually sold it for about ₹ 36000 as I had to go out of India for a year or so and there was no one to maintain it in my absence! By now it has become 15 times more valuable! No regrets, but I still fondly remember it - it was a perfect case of no pain, no gain....thrills and chills...

RD350 considering it's age and technology, it is unfair to compare these 2 bikes. RD 350 'WAS' a Giant Killer in those days, not anymore. And Conti650 as of today when compared to any 650 CC motorbike in it's class, is probably the worst in terms of performance. It's a decent bike but nothing is LEGENDARY about it.
You have to pit these bikes in their own class, not against each other. RD350 for most people have emotional value and Conti650 is mostly a matter of affordability. In current age, neither of the bikes are Performance machines.
PS: Before anyone roasts me f or my comments, I OWNED a Conti GT650 for abt 2years and sold 6 weeks ago to get a XSR700XT which is twice the bike than Conti. AND I DO OWN a RD350-1975 EU model (which has more performance than the Indian RD models).
