- The women of Bougainville are pushing to ensure their voices remain heard as the island inches towards independence.
Unlike most of its neighbours the aspiring nation has a long history of having women in charge with females owning most of the land and making most of the community decisions.
And as our PNG correspondent Natalie Whiting reports these widows of war want to turn their matriarchal roles into positions in Parliament.
