4 hot weather TROPICAL drinks to try this summer
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 28. 07. 2024
- Summer is here! Today I'm sharing four tropical drinks that are perfect for the hot weather! These are some of my favorites for sipping on when it's beastly hot outside - or if you're not somewhere warm, these cocktails will transport you to a faraway island đ Though easy to drink, a few of these recipes call for a number of ingredients (especially the Bali Bali). This is common in the world of tiki, and makes for multilayered drinks that are both interesting and delicious. Hope you enjoy these recipes, and hope you enjoy the sun! Don't forget the sunscreen đ Cheers!

With multi-ingredient drinks like these - if you need to substitute one or two components with something similar, it's probably going to work. And then you've created your own special recipe! đčâ
I recently discovered the Koloa Hawaiian dark rum. It's SO GOOD and I'm not usually a rum drinker...
so true. You inspired me to do different for this evening. Feel free to try.
normally I drink The Godfather aka 1 part "Scottish whiskey" and 1 part "Disarono Originale" on ice and Half orange wheel in the drink.. to keep things simple.
recipe
- Iced Whiskey glass with Ice ball or 4-5 icecubes
- 2oz(6cl) Reb Label
- 2oz(6cl) Disarono Originale
- 1oz(3cl) Lime Juice
- 3 dashes Angusturo
- Orange zest/oil on the glass & orange wheel
if you sip in-between you go from sweet cinnamon-vanilla to sweet-sour-tangy cinnamon vanilla in the end. you can sip this drink through the night xd
What is your dark Jamaican rum of choice?
Anders!! You should totally make a video using Japanese Whiskey like Toki!!! Thatâs a must do video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is off topic - but one of my favorite summer recipes is a drink of my own creation. I'm curious to know what you'd think of it
Grapefruit infused vodka
Combier pamplemousse
Fresh lime juice
Pink guava extract
Hard shake
Float domain de canton ginger
Splash soda
Garnish squeezed lime
It does really well where I'm at, but if you have some ideas to improve let me know
PEOPLE READING THESE COMMENTS TAKE NOTE: Anders' tropical drink recipes are some of my favorites in the world. His Mai Tai is, in my humble opinion, THE Mai Tai. My favorite hands down. His Tradewinds has gotten me through some very trying times and was my go-to for a long time. TRY THEM.
Thanks for this! Wish I could make one for you now, but the recipes will have to do. Enjoy the weekend - Cheers!
1st: insert every bickering/commending note about Mai Tais here.
2nd: smash Like or Dislike depending on what you believe
3rd: reply to other comments that REFUSE to agree with your viewpoint.
4th: repeat to every cocktail video that ever dares mention Mai Tai.
Completely agree! I also tried that using his orgeat recipie and worked great.
Thanks A&A!
I just made his Mai Thai and itâs masterful! I learned a lot from this. The balance of mild funk and grassiness, and the vanilla of the dark rum. To pick three rums that when combined contribute so much to the the drink is really interesting!
thank yu for the recommendation :> I cant wait to try out more of his recipes
Not only have you inspired so many to explore the world of cocktails (myself included), but you have turned my place into "the place to be" every Friday night as I recreate what you make each week. We're definitely trying the Bali Bali tonight. Thanks Anders for being awesome!
just started bartending, this channel is just what i needed
Nice cool 101 here in Arizona today and it's still the "nice" part of the summer. I needed this video!
I love tiki drinks, but I find it so hard to make a lot of them because you need a lot of specialized ingredients. I especially want someone to make a guide for different types of rum. It'd be nice if that guide also included rules of thumb for mixing different varieties of rum in a tiki drink.
Yes please!
Totally agree! I love rum, but it's probably the spirit I'm least familiar with, and I never have the juices or liqueurs I would need on hand.
You are in luck, Smuggler's Cove by Martin Cate created a matrix of rum types and how to use them in tiki cocktails. Good read. You can go as deep into rum as you like starting on pg 183 - or just adopt his key 8 categories of rum and drink away.
In General there are three main schools of rum:
- English
- Spanish
- French
Depending on what country "colonized" the place in the past.
Besides that there is the aging part of course, ABV, added sugar etc.
For cocktails you should be fine with about 3-4 bottles I would think, with Jamaican rum and Agricole rum as part of the line up.
@@als.2983 This is great advice, it's kind of the bible for rum in cocktails. Also How To Drink did a video on rum which explores a lot of the same things.
Hey man! To my knowledge I'm the only bartender in town with a Mai Tai on the menu. It's your recipe, also your recipe for homemade orgeat. It's getting really good feedback from folks! Someone maybe tried it on their vacation to Bali or the like, and are stoked to see it done here in a small town of Sweden! Great inspiration, gonna keep watching your stuff!
Still absolutely love that Tradewinds recipe. I bought a swizzle stick almost exclusively for that drink. That drink also works great with a lightly aged demerara rum as well for an interesting spin on it.
Iâve been following this channel for awhile now, and every video makes me pray for 5 o clock to where I can get home and try these recipes!
Yes! Great work legend! Making these tomorrow afternoon! Thank you both
So thankful for coming across your account. My husband and I love watching your videos
Excited to try these recipes! I've bought edible orchids at the Pete's on Cermak and Rockwell in Little Village, in the packaged herb section. I usually see them in stock whenever I go shopping there.
Thank you, Anders. You are a true inspiration, man. Peace and Love, dude.
I love your videos ! ( and the drinks as well) ... I stumble up on your channel accidentally one day and never stop waiting for the next video after that. Tried few ( due to difficult in finding ingredients in this part of the world) of your classics and love them all.. keep doing the good & fun stuff !
Hey Anders!! Canât wait to try these. Would love if you did a big summer batch cocktail video. I love making cocktails for guests, but after the third go around Iâm handing out beers. Could you do a video going over some big batch cocktail principles and one of your favorites?? PLEASE!!!
Here's to a great summer! Gotta go and make some cocktails đ.....Thanks Anders!
I tried the tradewinds and i love it so much, i will chose this over pinacolada
Austin just had its hottest May on record, so these are coming at the right time! đ„” Great pick with the Bali Bali. That one isn't on our website-going to have to remedy that!!
Itâs a good one! Stay cool out there đčđ„¶
Looking great with the new haircut, Anders! Glad to see more tiki-type drinks now that we're into the summer months. Do keep 'em coming.
Oh yum, Anders! Bali Bali is great đ. Thanks!
I made my first cocktail this weekend and it was fantastic. I made a Pina colada and the fresh citrus makes such a difference.
I modified The Tradewinds and subbed orgeat for cream of coconut and used dry curaçao instead of Giffard Abricot. Made about 6.7 liters for a tiki themed birthday celebration today and it was a hit! Thank you for the inspiration!
The Tradewinds is truly one of my favorite tropical drinks. Glad you included it! I like serving it with a cocktail umbrella blown up like it got destroyed in a trade wind! Cheers!
This is the content i want! Tropical rum cocktails. đ„° More please, all best from Poland.
BTW. I love my poco grande glasses đ„°
I got smuggler's cove not too long ago, and I have really deep dived into the art of Tiki drinks. There are so many different kinds of rum, it's wild. I'm gonna have to try the Bali Bali soon. Hope you are well Anders!
Great to be back đ€Ł. Gonna have to do all 4 this weekend for sure!
Ever since I saw your original Tradewinds cocktail, itâs been my go to summer drink! I like it with an ounce of Plantation 3* and an ounce of Chairmanâs Reserve rum, it is a patio pounder! Awesome vid as always and stay cool!
86°?
Thatâs pretty warm for inside.
Thank you for your sacrifice from those in the South. We love your videos!!!
Very much appreciated!!
Saved this in a heartbeat! I'm really into tropical drinks and love making them.
Unfortunately here in Italy they don't get the love they deserve and I've taken it as a personal challenge to change that at least where I work.
Great Video. I'm going to try all 4 this summer
Happen to just accidentally find your channel. love it man! Iâve been playing w making my own syrups to incorporate w my drinks. Thanks for making your videos. đđ»
Banging list
Fitting that Anders is based in Chicago doing tiki, as Three Dots and a Dash was where I was introduced to tiki drinks back in 2014. Truly life changing!
I appreciate this channel. I cannot wait to pick up a bottle of that Koloa Kaua'i Dark Rum! Thanks for the recommend.
Summer Party Punches NOW!!!! Anyway great video. You have become my go to resource for launching points for cocktails.
Hi Anders, I tried the Mai Tai and it is a poem in the mouth âŠsuch an amazing composition. I thank you so much for all the knowledge and creativity you share in a funny and warm hearted way. A happy weekend from Germany!
There are certain grocery stores in Chicago that sell edible orchids. However, they are rarely in stock and usually have to be special ordered. The brand is Infinite Herbs and I have had some luck special ordering them through Peteâs Fresh Market in the past. I also recently got some at Local Market Foods on 71st but I donât think they carry them anymore. If anyone else in Chicago has a source, Iâd love to know about it!!
Thanks for this, Dominic! I'll keep an eye out - and if I find something else I'll let you know. Hope you're doing well, and enjoy the weekend!
The sacrifices you make for clean sound, my dude.
Your "don't be scared" made it seem like you sensed my trepidation over those 10 ingredients. Lol It also feels like Summer had sprung here. I ready for a cold bevvy. You two stay cool.
super neat drinks! I actually just had my first mai tai 3 nights ago so was neat seeing how you make yours, cheers :)
Now I understand why i'm always drinking rum, every season is summer in my city, cheers from MĂ©xico Anders, and thanks :)
Made the tradewinds with Plantation original dark and 5 year...amazing! Plantation rums are becoming some of my favorite for rum based cockails.
I've made the Plum Island Punch several times since discovering your recipe and it's simply phenomenal (minus the absinthe, because I just can't bring myself to buy anything licorice-y).
I'm also really glad to learn about Lillet Rouge, what a great addition. So far I've made a New York Sour rendition with it. I'd love to see more uses for it from you!
The Bali Bali sounds great. Will try :)
Iâm watching this again
Iâm in the mood for tiki drinks
Come for the education, stay for the humor. Never fails to make me laugh. Thank you Anders
Just finished my first bottle of Diamond 151 - it's really nice! Cheap too
Can't wait to give these a shot! I'll be in Chicago next week, any must try cocktail bars out there? Would actually love to see a video series on what bars to go to in different cites around the US: Chicago, New Orleans, NYC, etc
Looking super tropical!
Love a Mai Tai. Really looking forward to making the Bali bali, I have all the ingredients. Might make it tonight!
Excellent! Hope you love this one as much as I do - Cheers!
Love the door county reference. Now you need a DC Cherry drink.
Thanks
In my moms country (and also my husbands) passion fruit is super popular. I grew up with this but we had to go to the Latin store to buy the concentrate to make juice and other desserts.
I LOVE CLEMENT CANNE BLEUE in my Mai Tais!!!! Mixed with some Smith & Cross = HEAVEN. I will have to find the Koloa!
I'm a month early for the southern hemisphere re-visit on this episode, but it already makes a lot of sense! Cheers Anders, will be making some of these through the hot New Zealand summer :-)
Amazing video â€ïžâđ„
Great video!
The umbrella and youre shirt - same coulor, now thats what i call genius! :)
Best way to end the work week and start the weekend is an A & A Cocktail Productions, LLC Video đ Cheers, Anders & Az!
They all sound delicious. Very interested in the Plum Island Punch!
86 in the place?! Yikes! Great video!
Now you're talkin'! Summer is about to start here in Finland and some of these drinks are going to get made at my house this summer. Thanks!
I just made the Bali Bali. I would rather call it "interesting" than "delicious", but still nice. The falernum gives it spice and I'm not sure if I love it or not. But hey, at least it's not boring! And of course I had none of the mentioned boozes. I had: El Dorado 12y, Plantation 3 Star, Meukow VS and Plymouth Gin.
Trick I've used is to put a bit of something flammable and absorbent (like a crouton) in your 151 for the Mai Tai. It acts like a candle wick and makes a nice orange flame that you can see outside!
I like to use some Smith and Cross in my Mai Tai but I think my grandma will prefer your recipe more.
Love the video! As a golfer, I would love to see you do a video on the Transfusion. I've never seen this drink served anywhere but the course, so would love your take on it!
Way to score that affiliate link with Liber & Co! Glad to see youâre finding ways to keep making these videos. Please keep it up! Awesome work. đđœ
After watching you make these four delicious beauties, it's time to switch gears and get into the summer vibe. I probably had a shocked look on my face when you mentioned the drink Plum Island. We have a Plum Island here in Long Island. They work with infectious diseases out there. Not the kind of place a drink is named after. Stay cool and enjoy the Summer. đčđđïž
Whoa! Definitely a different Plum Island đ Thank you so much, Marianna! Hope you're enjoying the start of summer. Cheers!
My first thought as well haha! If you have to do research on hoof-and-mouth disease, you might as well have an awesome summer cocktail! And it sounds delicious! đ
30 degrees C...my kinda weather but not indoors! Great video as usual! Have to make a few of these when I get to Florida even tho I'm more of a classic than a tiki kinda guy. I miss the clock set t 5 O'Clock on the new set.
Some of excellent choices. I really like the Tradewinds! Your Mai Tai is quite inspired. While the original Mai Tai didnât have vanilla syrup (you may be thinking of Smugglerâs Coveâs recipe), I really dig the float of the sweet Koloa Dark to pair with the Jamaican/Martinique base.
Glad to see more tropical drinks! Wife bought me the smugglers cove book a month agoâŠ. And she wonders why I had to buy so many bottles of RUMâŠ.
cool video!
can you make a rum deep dive at some time, maybe? (like when to use wich kind and a little shopping guide)
Peteâs grocery store chain often has the orchids in small clamshells hanging with the herbs. Look by where you would find chives. I live in Chicago as well.
Your Plum island punch matches your shirt hahaha love it.
Grow some orchids using an Aerogarden! I grow orchids and mint exclusively for cocktails
Cheers! đčâ€
Oh man the Plum Island Punch sounds awesome
You would make this video the day I get home from my vacation in hawaii
yum
Back in the day, dad would take us downtown Chicago to Kon Tiki Ports restaurant. He would let me drink half of his Mai Tai that so delicious from Trader Vicâs (adjacent). There was a walkway from Michigan Avenue down the Ohio Street side of the Hilton hotel? Anyway, the Mai Tai is my fav Tiki drink. Love the shows. Love Ozâs comments like, â Yeah, itâs _____inâ hot!â Thanks for hours of fun learning to mix good drinks!
OMG đ€€đ€€ Thank you đđđ„Ž
We're already impressed with your glass game, but here you are busting out a poco grande glass. đđđŸ
All sound like great cocktails. âThereâs a lot in here, so be responsibleâ - rings true, these sound best for an afternoon or evening when youâre home and not going anywhere!
Can't wait to make some of these this summer! The one spirit my bar is missing is rum, and it's long overdue after all the rum drinks I've seen you make.
Love rum - I think you'll be happy with the bar addition đ Cheers!
As a great entry to rum you could try El Dorado 12 yo.......great sipper and also great in cocktails.
Hi Anders. Would love a video (or recommendation) of like big jugs/pictures of cocktails for bbq or garden parties.. just made in advance and able to pour over ice etc.
Cheers man!
Great video
They look so good! Thank you for your sacrifice seriously 86 degrees inside on a hot day is INTENSE đ
The Bali Bali looks nice. Just tried your Zombie and itâs very nice. This looks like something of the same ballpark
It's 38°Celcius in here i.e 100.4°Farenheit. Feels like 46°C. Thanks for the drinks.
Thanks for the new vid Anders. Peace bro
Cheers to you - and enjoy the weekend!
Baliâ€â€â€
Aloha from Kauai! Thrilled to see you use our local Koloa Rum! I'm tinkering with a macadamia-based orgeat, for an all-local ingredient Mai Tai!
You looked to happy seeing that umbrella burn. đ€Ł. So if any Bars go up in flame they will be looking at you first. đ„
Can you do an episode on big batch cocktail? Like a punch or something I can make is a batch for a BBQ.
Great love it! Anders do you have any suggestions on how to make a key lime martini? Thank you
I'm not sure if it's intended, but the finish of the Plum Island Punch I have just tried really tastes like plum. Really interesting that you get that taste with no plum ingredient in it... wow!
You have to love a bar instruction video that says don't burn your face off. đŹ Cool drinks. Thanks.
Had to sub a couple things for the plum Island but man oh man was it great anyways
Anders is the bestâŠ..Oz is great too!!!
Made a Bali Bali for my wife. She says it's now her favorite drink
86F is 30C.
Hot!
Good time for a Tiki drink! Thanks Anders!
Appreciate the conversion! Cheers!
Thought you grew up in Newburyport, MA for a second! Where thereâs also a Plum Island
30 celsius, indeed very warm enjoy the drinksđčđ.
