20ft Tide Surge Causes TIDAL BORE in Severn River, England

- The Severn River Tidal Bore is one of the novelty wonders of the world. Multiple times a year the high tide charges in from the ocean and with a 9 meter swing it has enough momentum & strength to create a surfable wave at the front of the tide. There's a few Severn locals who have been riding this dreamer since the 1980's. The thing about a tidal wave is that it takes 6 hours, on any given day, for the tide to come in or go out or for the tide to switch. That means, technically, this wave is pushing up the river for 6 hours. All of this equates to very long rides & a lot of surfing. Absolutely above the moon to share this amazing adventure with you & to keep following my dreams of novelty waves & surfing every country in the world. Thank you for the support!! - Ben

Absolutely brilliant videos so far. We brits who surf are very greatful for any wave we have because they can be few and far between, even if that means dodging shopping trolleys, logs and traffic cones to ride one. The 7 bore sums up british surfers hunger for that thrill of riding a wave, even if it does look like a sewage works

It probably was a sewage works with the amount of shit the Tories are pumping into the rivers and sea at the moment.
There are spots in Cornwall and Devon that have pretty consistent, decent surf.

The town sections of the Severn where the river goes through and brake on the big spring tides has shopping trolleys chucked in to contend with in the water as well as the logs traffic cones ETC LOL. Nice one Ben.

For the dream! That was awsome.
Back in the 1970 I used to water ski on the Severn down by the first Severn Bridge, using the old ferry slipway to launch the boats. For fun two of us were going to ski the bore with the boats in front of the wave and us on the crest or behind. Sadly, me boat got engine trouble, so I didn't even make the spot. But the other guy did and rode as planned, got some great footage. We would also ski down to Bristol or up the Wye to Tintern, even did Boxing Day skis and the Ferry Boat Hotel supplied us with hot showers and hot toddies afterwards.
Thats so cool teaching us about real surfing lets goo!!

Thats crazy cool. You got to do the tidal bore in Turnagain Arm in Alaska. That is really good one. Exactly like this but bigger wave. Shallow and the water is warm!

kayak surfed the bore a few times, it can get sketchy on the river sometimes, especially with trees which i once found out about at close quaters... down near severn bore pub
Not sure how many international trips Jverni will be stoked to go on after this. 4 AM wakeups, endless road trips, out in the heat, filming Ben’s novelty waves. Better make sure all those flights are first class Gravy

its in New Brunswick, a small province of Canada tucked in between Maine and Nova Scotis. Also check out Scotia, best coast line on the eastern seaboard in my opinion

Gotta say you had to jump more fences and trespass more than any of the spots in the States. But considering how much you scored, definitely worth it. Nice to know there are committed wave riders all over England. The secret status to some of the spots adds to the legitimacy. Great video great people.

I remember way back in the 60's when Surfer Magazine first mentioned The Bore. Rodney Sumpter was the first Brit surfer I ever knew of and he was featured in the article.
First person ever to surf it was Colonel "Mad Jack" Churchill back in the 50s. Check out his history... All bore surfers are a little touched in the head..In the best way.
