Look, I hope you know that even unusual traders and unboxers for the first time are avoiding unboxing altogether because that’s how bad the update is. I have never seen this many people leave the trading community because they think the game is dying and I don’t blame them. Key prices are crashing, bots are still very prevalent, worse and worse cosmetics and older cases with better cosmetics are becoming more expensive to unbox. I don’t doubt that we could see the lowest player count in YEARS that’s how bad this update is.

We lost the funny/interesting descriptions of cosmetics and we got annoying tiering with ugly colours. We lost decent looking cosmetics over more " haha wacky " type of cosmetics. The amount of all class cosmetics which are just some random ugly top hat is worrying to say at least. Cosmetics indeed went down the drain and its acually funny to see that those which acually looks atleast semi-decent are always on the bottom of the lowest tier. Its just weird.

If you want to have a good laugh or cry you should look at the texture for the 2021 case. If you look closely you can see 2019 right under the 2021. They didn't even clean the texture, they just recolored it and slapped 2021 on-top...
I agree it would be nice to just have winter cosmetics instead of just holiday cosmetics. I don't mind the silly cosmetics, I quite like them in fact, but there comes a point where it's too much. If every cosmetic is silly, they aren't silly anymore, they're just normal at that point which ruins the entire point of silly cosmetics. Seeing a silly loadout at first is nice, but if everybody is wearing one it becomes quite annoying.
I also prefer stranges, because if you get them with a cosmetic you really want you will use it and eventually see the progress on the strange count, its cool
this smismass case is just very.. very depressing imo honestly they could just make 2 cases with silly and non silly, its not hard to get 2 cases at once
I haven't seen a case drop to 10 cents in a day before, normally any decent one is at a few dollars for the first day or so. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the first crate to go below 3 cents We get 2 maintenence updates a year and kinda just wasted this one
The worst part is that since the maintenance updates tend to be around holidays, all the cosmetics that get accepted are usually holiday ones. I can't recall the last time I saw someone wearing 90% of the cosmetics in the last few years cases outside of the first few weeks, or they were unusual, or as a meme loadout. Does Valve seriously think someone is going to wear any of these cosmetics all year-'round? The only one I could see is the festive frames if someone is really wanting a third Christmas light cosmetic to go with the Industrial Festiviser and the Face Full of Festive. Also how many headphone, beanie, and pocket buddy cosmetics do you think we need Valve?
Steam tax makes 1 cent of profit turn into 3 cents in the markup. Sellers would have to give them away for free (although I wouldn’t be surprised if they did)

When I unboxed a few of those crimson cache cases, I thought the selection of hats was kind of weird, like someone got drunk while working on it, but it could still pass. This new case... is something else. If the last cosmetic case was a representation of being drunk, this one is more akin to injecting yourself with heroin, eating a soup spoon full of cocaine, smoking a blunt, downing it all with antifreeze and then proceeding to waste your 20s as a reddit mod.
The one hat i didn’t want was the the fucking train. Its like the helm helm for the demo or the carousel on the pyro. It takes random shit on top of my head to a way lower level. At least its not fucking all-class
Although it's annoying how low quality the hats this year are, the taunts and unusual effects are good imo. Also a couple of the fixes that came with the update are good, wrap assassin being able to be used on more maps without being broken and the engineer not losing metal when hitting a reconstructing building are good.

I appreciate voicing your frustration. I feel like I largely relate to this as well and I notice that I've only been using the hats that were released a from a decade ago or craftable ones.
I'll try to do my best to be optimistic about this and say the new warpaint case may come in the spring instead and won't be attached to christmas so you don't get all the awful themed ones but you'll get a pick of the better ones that aren't christmas or winter related. Fingers crossed anyway

yup when i looked at the cosmetics i somehow recognized all of them because they somehow look the exact same as the cosmetics we already have in the game... hopefully valve will hear our cry for help and release a second case or something (lol)
Literally the only two things I care about this update are the Mooshanka and the *partial* fix for the Wrap Assassin. JUST as I bought a graphics card so I can play the game at playable framerates and visuals, and Valve gives me the biggest sign that this game is going under soon.
The seasonal updates actually freak me out. Anytime anything new is added to this game, its some halloween or christmas thing. More and more and more each year, while normal content is almost never added. This is slowly changing the ratio and it's looking like a dystopian nightmare to me. Think about it, years from now in the future, when people come back to this game or try it out to see the history, their reaction will be "Oh my god, why is more than half of every map and cosmetic in this game either heavily halloween or christmas themed?"
Why can't they just add a case with ONLY miscs? Good miscs. We have only 1 all class misc and it's death of night (yeah all class) but look at heavy or demo they need some miscs :/

There's like 1 decent cosmetic in that case (the deer hat idk. It looks like something for heavy or sniper. Deer are big and scary creatures so heavy and they're also commonly hunted so sniper) It's not too goofy, fits the artstyle and it fits the personality of 2 classes. 1:39 the mooshacka

What I’m honestly happy about are the maps. From what I have played, quite a few of em are really nice. But I agree regarding how low the bar as been put when it comes to the quality of cosmetics and the problem that has become unusual fetishization. Especially now that the neglect from valve has gotten a lot worse, I’m afraid that the glue that holds this game together, the community, is going to tear itself apart. While I haven’t spent as much time with this game as some of you others have, but I still love this game to death.
Hat effects are not good at all this year. Taunt effects are pretty sweet. However, I agree that this case is boring and has waaaay too many all-class hats. I unboxed 40 cases and only got a single unusualfier. Not unboxing anymore of this case. Maps are pretty sweet though! A lot of reskins, but I'll take some decent maps for once!

Even though the taunts look great and the maps make me want to pay for an official version of them, I’m satisfied with the latest seasonal updates. We had new amazing clothing and hats on the workshop. WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN A TRENCH COAT FOR SCOUT :(.
Honestly unusual gloves with some kind of ring effect around the hand looks pretty cool in my opinion. Someone should try and create something like that if they can.
