Srebrenica was the scene of a genocide in 1995, in which not only the living but also the dead were tortured. In September 2023, the skeleton of a genocide victim was found in the garden of the house of a Serbian doctor named Nebojsa Mraovic, in the Brcko region of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The doctor recovered the body in 1997 and buried it under the fountain in his garden in 2012.
