- Jimmy was 4-1 and 5-2 down to Matthew Stevens. He made a 69 break to pull back to 5-3. We join the match in frame 9. Jimmy needed two snookers. He got the first, and now Matthew needs to escape from a second... The Whirlwind at his best and the crowd go wild!

A touch of class by Matthew Stevens when he refuses Jimmy's hand and tells him to clear up even though it means he's got to sit there and endure another couple of minutes of his own defeat.

Nice memories with your dad. I watched some snooker with my father aswell back in early to mid 80's. Never forget the '85 Embassy final. Was allowed to sit up late to watch.

Very sporting of Matthew to let him carry on and give the crowd a treat. Brilliant from both players.
It would be one of the greatest sporting moments of all time if that man, at his age, came back and won a world title.
Pure raw talent and a guy with such a witty personality thats rare in snooker nowadays, such an absolute genius, even his name makes ya think he's a bit of a character lol, saw him win the big poker competition on the telly a few years ago and with so called pros trying to read him with a poker face and Jimmy the Leg winking back and smiling just showed what he is like, absolute great guy and blinding personality! Hendry wouldn't have won very much if Jimmy didn't have that showman 'I'm playing for the fans and you only live once mentality' he's the true 'Peoples Champion Always And Forever'!
Tonio Bolonio imagine him winning the world championship, what kinda ovation would he get, jimmy has no need to win it, he's the peoples champion and I think that's better than having your name on a trophy that people forget about you, the whirlwind from London town won't be forgotten.

I saw Hurricane Higgins and Jimmy White at Dartford at an exhibition.in about 1990,.. You think the standard was good here but how they played in exhibition snooker was simply unbelievable. It was supposed to be best of 3,....25 minutes later they had finished BUT they then played one defensive frame, again safety shots that were incredible. Alex and Jimmy are for me, the most entertaining, gifted, wonderful players of all time. God bless you Alex and Jimmy, what more can you say, A National Treasure!!

Jimmy rightly inherited the soubriquet "people's champion" from his idol and sometimes mentor, Alex Higgins, I met them both when they toured together with John Virgo doing trickshots at half time,I managed a few words with Jimmy and helped Alex move his table across the room so he could sign autographs as we where leaving..both where in great form and where great with the crowd... I had grown up, glued to the t.v, praying Alex would keep making impossible breaks and then Jimmy came along (I'm the same age as Jimmy) and wow, what a cue action for somebody so fast..! and what a sportsman, absolute gent...and Mr Higgins, r.I.p..
Shows what a gent Jimmy is. He was prepared to finish early for Mtthews sake (in spite of being on a roll) but Matthew graciously allowed Jimmy to continue to entertain the crowd.

Hen Smithers Im with you.Ronnie does create a fantastic buz when hes playing but there was nothing like the atmosphere that jimmy used to create when he was in his prime.Ronnies a genius who plays fast but jimmy could play shots that players could not play and thats what gave him his flare.So much cue power with no effort at all.He didnt win what he should or could but just on raw talent he was the best in my opinion.

I would say ronnie has the biggest fan Base and people's champ to date
Aaron Dale the point in being a people’s champion is that you don’t produce that much during your career. Ronnie has achieved more arguable than anyone,whereas the other two underachieved, and still had the biggest fan bases of their times.

Jimmy's best days are long behind him. Its almost sad to hear him say he still thinks he can win the World Championship, and he's said that as recently as November 2014. If he couldn't win it in his prime with fewer good players around how does he expect to win it at 52 years old with players that can whitewash him with ease?
I agree with you.I almost cringe when he says he can still win the worlds.If he said he could still win a tournament i would half believe it but the world title was beyond his reach in his prime and he has no chance of winning it now.He is almost the most naturaly gifted player i have seen and he had all the ability and shots and flair in the world.Sadly for me he never quite did it.
Paul Mears I don't believe he truly thinks he still has the chops to win the title, but one thing he does have is the heart. Underdog mentality. Gotta love it.
Greg Smith He also has the skill still. I saw him play in one of the legends events against Ronnie last year. Ronnie didn't get near the table, Jimmy potted everything, Multiple centuries and didn't miss a ball all night. Putting that together in a tournament though is a very different thing, but I guess he believes because he knows he can still do it in practice and exhibition.
I believe Jimmy feels as long as he can get to the table,he's got a chance.
