i carried one of these for years as a back up after being told by several police officers they were 100% reliable, fired it tons of times and let numerous people (women mostly) also shoot it. it never once jammed or misfired. It was like carrying a half full pack of cigarettes, i loved it, they loved it. I sold mine to my ex girlfriend to protect herself at night downtown. I miss that gun, her, not so much.
Taught her how to shoot..didn't ya!!!!!! Probably got pretty good at it? Sure I will sell you the gun! Incentive to keep ya from entertaining the "I miss her...maybe it will work if we try again?" TRAP NOW she has my gun.....HELL NO! She was scary enough already 🤣🤣
A friend of mine carried a Kel-Tec P11 for years.... it's essentially the older brother of the P3AT, a little larger and in 9mm. One day, he was shooting, there was a flash, and the gun seized up. He took it to a gunsmith to see if it could be fixed. The gunsmith looked at it and asked "When was the last time you cleaned this gun?" My friend replied "You have to clean it?" After over ten years of use, and thousands of rounds without a single hiccup, and absolutely no cleaning, it finally had a failure. The flash was all the unburned powder residue all over the gun igniting. The gunsmith managed to free the gun up and trained my friend how to clean it. Charged him $10.
I bought a Kel-Tec P3AT.380 when they first came out in 2003. It has the internal extractor and is a silver over black version. They were scarce as hen's teeth because law enforcement officers were snatching them as soon as they saw one. I qualified with mine each year as a backup and had no problems. I carried it until the last year when I decided to buy a LCP Max because of the capacity. The only con that I can talk about on the Kel-Tec is the little U-shsped piece that comes out of the slide rail, sometimes it falls off during disassembly and assembly. I think that they are great little pistols and super light which makes them a great carry everywhere. 😁👍
I'm old enough (74) to remember when these came out. They were touted as the perfect deep concealment gun. They were never i tended to be range toys or plinkers. They were intended to be defensive hand guns used up close and very personal probably at contact distance and that looong double action trigger pull was considered a safety feature, as you were less likely to accidentally shoot yourself as you pulled it out of your pocket. Or as one lady cop I heard about who wore it on a chain and let it hang between her...attributes.
The P3AT is a great little gun for summer carry or a back up. Not designed for long range, it is an up close self defense gun. The KelTec PF9 is a larger version for 9mm...it to is a very reliable gun.
I carried a Kel-Tec P-11 for years (until it was stolen) as my primary EDC via an ankle holster. It was always reliable and light--and I loved the DAO trigger which means if one got a misfire, all one had to do was pull the trigger again, but I never had a misfire with it or with any of my handguns. I just wish Kel-Tec would make the P-11 again--and make it California eligible. Love your videos--you do a fine job!
I had the ruger version before the tragic boating accident a few years back, pretty much the same thing, two day trigger pull . It's the gun I carry the MOST (well...used to, you know...the boat accident). Slips in the pocket. Not super uncomfortable (to me) like IWB. A 380 in the pocket beats a 9mm or 45 on the shelf.
In 20 years with my P3AT (1.0, internal vs external extractor spring) I've never tried any s(h)teel-cased ammo but have never had a hiccup with any brass-cased loads. Of course FMJ RNs feed reliably but so do FMJ RNFPs and Gold Dots. As for HD/PD I'd recommend this little .380, esp over any rimfire I can imagine for the role. btw, mine is in the nightstand when it's not in a pocket.
I've got the internal extractor as well and mine is a silver over Black version. I've never seen another person with the original versions like we have. I carried mine until I retired in 2015 and qualified with it every year each year as a backup without issue. 👍
Adam, I bought a Kel-tec P11 at a gun show many years ago. It's a double stack 9mm pocket pistol not much bigger that your .380, ( which is what I was looking for). So this came with two 10 round magazines and 2, 12 rounders. In the box, was the screws and the pocket clip. Owner's manual and all other goodies were in the box. There is no safety. That long trigger pull is your safety..I would say it's about 12 pounds till it finally breaks. Kicks like a mule because it is so light. I installed that clip and after many trips to the "range" I started carrying it. 4 years ago I went to another gun show. And there on a table was another P11. Three extra 10 round mags. No pocket clip but it had the replacement spring set and metal guide rod. I bought it. Works great. Still haven't found that P3AT one day.. have fun stay safe.
I can’t remember how long I have had mine. I pushed the wrong pin out and had to send it back. It was better when it came back . I’m very happy with it. My trigger pull is pretty good and it is very accurate.
My first pocket pistol. It's been pretty accurate, reliable, but snappy. Talon grips helped a lot. It's so small and light you forget it's in your pocket. Thanks for the videos...
I have long, thin fingers and a Hogue Hand-All helps to hold on with only two finger outside the TG. They come in all sizes and have 'em on a few single-stackers.
Keltec gets crapped on a ton but I’ve got the P32, no troubles at all, have the PF9 and the P11, all have run 100%, couple guys at work have the P3AT, love them, if you got that cheap you did good, on Gunbroker goin well over 300. Just me but I do like the small Keltecs
Love mine. Had it for 10+ years. Eats anything. It is the only gun I’ve have never ever had a misfire. I have over 1000 rounds through it. May not be a lot but you spend a whole day at the range with that knuckle buster and you know why it’s a pocket gun.
The only Kel-tec I have is a sub 2000 gen 2 9mm. It is a fun gun that is easy to put in a backpack and carry with you. I have had mine for 3 years and it has been 100 % reliable so far. Mine is made to take Glock 17 mags so mags are easy to find.
I bought one of those years ago. That thing is great! I've shot somewhere around 2500-3000 rounds through it and it's never let me down.. It's a good backup for your back pocket. I have a 9mm Kel-Tec and you can't hit a car 10 ft away. No! It's not me, it's the pistol...
I still carry mine ever single day. I bought it used 8 years ago and put a new grip-frame on it from the Kel-tec parts site. Amazing accuracy and very reliable. The finish is almost completely worn off of mine now and I have to remember to clean the pocket lint out of it regularly. I use a kydex trigger cover so nothing catches when I pocket carry. When I can tote something a little bigger for my edc, I strap the P3AT to my ankle as a backup and almost forget about it. The plastic magazine release will wear out with regular use so I keep a couple spares in the box it came in. I tried the aluminum one for a while but the mags kept slipping by it and I want back to the factory composite one.
First carry I ever bought was was a lcp when they first came out. Year later tried a keltec P11, lc9, G19, G26, even a 1911. Love them all just to heavy for day to day. Now I'm back to a lcp max. Glad to see the pocket holster and the absence of the jock strap. Little pocket .380s are what they are... and they do that job well. 🙂
My two cents, I have never had a problem with any keltec that I have owned or shot. But none of those became my carry tool. 🤷 50 yarder! Nice shot Who T. 👍
I’ve carried on of these since the first 6 months of production, very low serial number, under 400. Have put roughly about 1500 rounds through it, only issue really was one of the original magazine just would not work , kel tec just sent me a new one, definitely polish the feed ramp so it will gobble up hollow points, yep they have a horrible trigger but it’s purely a defense pistol, you know good for up close and personal safety
Kel Tec seems to really be a mixed bag. I bought one of their very early 9mms, (P9?), and it was fantastic. Never malfunctioned and spot-on accuracy. You just have to try em out.
It reminds me a bit of the LCP I had. The trigger was indeed long and with that skinny of a piece, with that little real estate, it made it challenging to be accurate. But it was a challenge I appreciated
I've had mine since about 2006. Still use the 2 original 6 round mags, but I added the grip extender floor plate that allows you to get a full 2 finger grip. Reliable little pistol. The best thing in my mind is the belt clip I added on the right side of the gun, same as the one in this video. With the belt/pocket clip, you can literally conceal in a pair of swim shorts, It completely disappears behind the waistband, even without a shirt on.
If you have any problems with it.. I've carried one since they first came out. Sometimes they dont like to feed good. All you have to do is bend the magazine top lips out just a little on both sides. Rugers are like that too I've fixed a bunch of them. Great vids man !!!
@@themotuwolf good luck, cause lots of high dollar guns still need tuning in order to be reliable. Nothing gets test-fired at the factory, no matter what model or brand it is.

The thing I like about the P3 two is you can use some of the new Underwood penetrator stuff and it’s still a semi reasonable carry option but it’s really small that looks just like that but it’s tiny. Have a shield and I’ve got an LCPII And both of them stick out of my pocket just a little bit the shield is too much to try, but the P3 two is tiny. Very lightweight and won’t leave the bottom of your mag sticking out of your pocket so it’s a small round but it’s a lot more convenient. with a penetrator around its ballistic gel testing are not amazing but OK and it’s super tiny and super light. I’m keeping my eye out for one day are an older model as well and not always available, but sometimes I don’t even wanna carry the LCPIi because it’s just a little too big and it’s a pain. lol.
@@kevinrichardson8859 If the LCP isn't at least partly made by Kel Tec for Ruger I'm sure tooling and production are licensed. Not that being able to swap parts between the brands hints at that.
I have a 1st gen Ruger LCP which is almost identical to the Keltec, specially the long trigger pull. I have large hands and if I have too much finger in the trigger guard, I actually run out of finger travel. I shoot it best using just the pad of my finger and a real tight grip. But I love the little pistol!
First pistol I ever carried! Great for the price. Mine had issues with running good self defense bullets. Would run FMJ’s great but not what you need for self defense.
Sub2000 gen 2 seems extremely reliable but I suggest mcarbo steel feed ramp, polyurethane buffer ring, a compensator, and tube cover for recoil and comfort. But not needed, its reliable. I got mine on a trade CHEAP but about $150 in upgrades and I love it, Flashlight, sling, duel spare mag buttstock, and the previously mentioned upgrades. I really dig it!
Get you the 9 round mag, it extends to grip for a perfect full grip. I have the same thing in 32 ACP, the P-32, with the extended 10 round mags. I can literally carry it in my shirt pocket.
#80 outside holster by Don Hunk ? Is a little scabbard that goes on a belt, that is a perfect fit for the Kel-Tec, holds great and very concealable, comfortable and easy to use, its leather!
The negatives you said on this gun is a positive to me. The long trigger pull is the safety. This is not a target pistol. This is a point and pull the trigger gun on who or whatever is trying to hurt you. My Keltec 3AT has been totally reliable. I have had mine for at least 10 years. The gun is flat small and has never failed me. great for pocket carry. I put Underwood HP's that are very hot for my carry ammo. I put a Hogue rubber sleeve on mine to make handle a little bigger.
I have one loaded with 7 rounds of 90 gr bullets 6 in magazine one in chamber weighs 11.5 ounces. That’s as light as it gets. Always carry it and you sometimes forget you have it
I have the same problem you have with sub compacts big hands I'm Lucky to get two fingers on the grip to dude great looking little boolot slinger though
for what it's worth I haven't had a single malfunction with my p17 kel tec and I've been shooting it for a couple months now. I didn't buy it to defend myself, it's just for fun, so I don't keep hp or hunting ammo or defensive ammo. I carry because I can, not so much because I feel I need to. firearms are just recreation for me. that's a brave title after what happened last time lol. this should be interesting, I hope you didn't get a turd, especially after your other gun getting broken.
Pretty good reliability, and decent accuracy considering that trigger pull. I'd wear gloves when you clean it for the first time, it probably has the previous owners body hair and belly button lint in it, lol.
2:46 and it’s a NO GO for me, long trigger pull , lack of finger grip , it’ll feel like the pistol is about to fly out of your hand when shooting . But keep going there’s probably better options for the 380 from other brand down the road/ future videos 😊 This would work for close range , but I would want all the advantage in my favor, especially under stressful situation
This is what happens when you wash your gun in hot water. They shrink. As far as ticks go, big man I’ve been infested with them all over. My dad got his propane torch and got them off my clothes and jacket. Took a bath in bleach water and I was fine. Always have the boys check each other. They’re the best partners with each other when mom and dad aren’t around! I HATE TICKS TOO!
If you get a chance, try the grand power x-calibur .not as handsome and classy or heavy as amazing tanfoglio defiant stock master or CZ TS2 but as accurate with 2.5 pound trigger and rotating barrel.
I have one. Fewer than 50 rounds and two repairs. Light strikes and broken extractor. Get a Ruger LCP that you can trust for self defense. Just costs a little more than junk.

Nice backyard weed control you got going there….🌱🌿🌾🍂😆
Absolutely
By the way, I’ll stick with my LCP 2… It always goes bang and the trigger isn’t half bad too….🤗
I have one. I like it for the 3 to 9 feet range lol
Those are a lot of bang for the buck
#80 outside holster by Don Hunk ? Is a little scabbard that goes on a belt, that is a perfect fit for the Kel-Tec, holds great and very concealable, comfortable and easy to use, its leather!
It seems to be working. Some more testing and you can actually carry it reliably.
Nice gun. I have Ruger LCP .380 and it looks almost like yours.
Acquired a 32 KelTec when they came out in 1999 or 2000 as a back up. Bought the 3AT (380) about 5 years later...still carry them.
The original built in trigger safety
They make them in 32 ACP as well
I carry a canik MC9 you should definitely try one of those out
The negatives you said on this gun is a positive to me.
I didn't say the long trigger pull was a negative, I just called it out. I agree it is supposed to be that way
You're right yes the long trigger pull is supposed to be that way
I have one loaded with 7 rounds of 90 gr bullets 6 in magazine one in chamber weighs 11.5 ounces. That’s as light as it gets. Always carry it and you sometimes forget you have it
I have a junk one that i would never carry.. A PMR-30 but it's a BLAST to shoot!! 30 RD .22 Magnum!! Huge fireball!
I have the same problem you have with sub compacts big hands I'm
Lucky to get two fingers on the grip to dude great looking little boolot slinger though
Hogue Hand-All. You're welcome. 🙂
It’s well worth it to put an upgraded trigger in those I used the sweet spot trigger but there are others such as MCarbo’s
Makes it way better IMHO
That pistol had a laser on the side at one point by the looks of the front pin.
for what it's worth I haven't had a single malfunction with my p17 kel tec and I've been shooting it for a couple months now.
Those were decent in their day but there’s far better pocket pistols now. Those little 380 was almost like shooting a jack hammer.
2:46 and it’s a NO GO for me, long trigger pull , lack of finger grip , it’ll feel like the pistol is about to fly out of your hand when shooting .
But keep going there’s probably better options for the 380 from other brand down the road/ future videos 😊
This would work for close range , but I would want all the advantage in my favor, especially under stressful situation
Ticks suck! Both literally and figuratively. Then there are chiggers.
If you get a chance, try the grand power x-calibur .not as handsome and classy or heavy as amazing tanfoglio defiant stock master or CZ TS2 but as accurate with 2.5 pound trigger and rotating barrel.
I'm glad I'm not the only big guy that has that reaction to ticks...
🤣🤣🤣
Think I'll stick with my 1911. Thanks for the video.
I have one. Fewer than 50 rounds and two repairs. Light strikes and broken extractor. Get a Ruger LCP that you can trust for self defense. Just costs a little more than junk.
Seems to work well but wow that trigger ! Built in safety i guess.
With that heavy trigger, you could get away without the holster if you wanted too for some reason.
Keep your eyes out for the 32acp one that kel tec made. It’s even smaller. People grab them up fast. I am looking for one myself.
Its comparable to the ruger lcp and lcp 2. You should do a comparison between the keltec and the ruger!!!!
I wouldn't care to carry this one in my pocket without a pocket holster
Why it's DAO can't get no safer.
