- At the 2022 BMW Championship, Jordan Spieth and his caddie, Michael Greller, find themselves in a tough situation in a bunker on the par-4 5th hole. After an in-depth conversation about what shot to play, Spieth decides to go for the green and mis-hits it into the water. He would go on to make double bogey on the hole.

The PGA TOUR heads to Delaware for the first time, as the BMW Championship tees off at Wilmington Country Club. 70 of golf’s biggest stars will continue their quest for the FedExCup including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, defending champion Patrick Cantlay, The Open and THE PLAYERS winner Cameron Smith and Sam Burns and Xander Schauffele, who each have three wins this season. Scheffler, who entered the Playoffs at No. 1 in the FedExCup, is coming off a missed cut at the FedEx St. Jude Championship - just his fourth of the season. Other notables looking to bounce back after a missed cut in Memphis are past FedExCup winners Rory McIlroy, who won in 2016 and 2019, and Jordan Spieth, who won in 2015. The automatic qualifiers for the Presidents Cup teams will be determined after the tournament, with six Americans and eight international players securing spots on their respective teams. Only the top 30 in the FedExCup Standings will make it to the TOUR Championship at East Lake, and unlike the FedEx St. Jude Championship, there is no cut at the BMW Championship.

He took ownership of it. That's all that matters at that point. Caddy did his best.
I don’t see an issue with this. At the end of the day, a player needs to be confident in what they’re doing. He was wrong and should’ve just played the conservative shot, but it’s what he wanted.
Yep make a mistake with conviction if you're gona make one
I don't think their is an "issue", but for sure Spieth had a perceived self bias how he was going to play the shot. And that bias clouded his memory to think clearly. You are looking at a high percentage up and down compared to a low percentage shot for nearly the same result.
And what he wanted costed hin dearly !
Classic Jordan, talking himself out of contention.
He really overthinks his shots. Shut up already and hit the ball!
He didn’t talk himself out of anything. He took the shot that he wanted to
Jordan’s just very loyal to his golf friends. He wants to see them win so he does what he can to make sure he won’t win. He’s demonstrated this many many times and his friends always seem real happy.
When the caddie interrupts your final practice swing you know something is seriously not right! Take note!
I don't see why Spieth isn't put on the clock ,I like Spieth but I think his slow play hurts his game .Cantlay lines up his shot and makes a decision and it has been to his benefit winning the tournament !
@@judynichols2904 Cantlay stands over putts for like 30 seconds
I mean this happens. If he pulls it off it’s amazing but sometimes it doesn’t work out.
When the best outcome is a perfect scenario, listen to your caddie.
Valatoris listened to his caddy the week before and he won the tournament .You have to trust your caddy or get a new caddy !
Go Jordan... always a great watch.
On a recent game with a mate I ended up pin high but right of the green behind a whole pile of felled trees with full overhead cover of trees. I told my mate if I can just get it over the pile I should be close to hitting the green. He recommended I just play backwards onto the fairway, Well I fated it into the pile of felled trees swore, took a drop that eliminated my safe fairway shot so had to go for it, I ended up within 6 foot of the flag and we both just laughed and laughed. What a wonderful game we play
Gotta love Spieth. This is why we love to watch him. He’s like Arnie and Mickelson in taking risks.
But unfortunately, he has worse results too often.
Yikes! Hate that but Jordan you said it was on you. Keep a positive and fun attitude and good luck.
This is what makes Jordan so great to watch, a bit like seve, go for the shot if it comes off brilliant, if not disaster, just love him
I have to say I love Jordan, too. Sure, there's a downside, but when you're a fan of any team or player, you take the bad with the good. This much for sure: Jordan will need to work on putting tee shots on the fairway in the offseason.
It was a dumb shot for a pro though, because it is the sort of thing we amateurs do all the time. Really tough to pick a bunker shot clean off an upslope like that. You have to get your shoulders aligned with the upslope perfectly, you can see he doesn't do that and takes too much sand. It is also a shot that you don't practice that much. Calling that type of shot is the difference between a 12 handicap and a 5 handicap, he should be well past that as a pro.
Caddy gave great advice !
Spieth always says he relies on his caddy's advice ,well then he needs to take it !
Going for the hero shot is a no-no in this situation, especially for amateurs. I did this one time over the water and I lost an arm. Tried to fetch my ball out of the water and a gator snatched my left arm. Never will I play in florida again and never will I get to play 2 handed golf again.
Are you Chubbs Peterson?
@@anodizervintage9622 lol
bro this has to be a joke otherwise i feel so bad
At the end of the day, the player calls the shot. The caddie is only there to help make things easier for the player, period. Caddie did a great job doing that.
Awesome
A good person listens to a person. That’s what a good person/decent and strong person does. Listen to a person. Listen.
Sadly he didn’t do that
Did he tin cup it 😆 love you Jordan
Jordan Spieth should get some course management tips from Nicklaus or Woods, two of the best ever at that. He seems to do this sort of thing all the time.
I agree. He seems like a good guy and has played great in the past but now he is so frustrating to watch. He talks and talks and hems and haws and then hits a dud. Happens too often. I’d like to watch him more if he just walked up and attempted his miracle shot without all of the blah blah blah.🤨
As a club caddie this is a daily conversation. Only there's way less deliberation on their end. It's like the hero shot is the default mindset of a 20 handicapper.
Yeah, because on the 1/100 chance you make that hero shot, you feel like a god. Worth it.
Even worse is when you make the conservative play and still end up botching the hole.
Michael never liked the play, but I love how he doesn't try to take the artist out of Jordan. There's been so many times when Michael called it off and Jordan still pulled something off, and vice versa. Two of the best at what they do.
I like how the caddy didn't say a word and just skedaddled...
That wasn't even close to where he thought it might end up. That's golf tho.
Jesus, no wonder rounds take 5 hours
Man... the caddy knew the right behavior for this one. Woulda been sick though lmaooo
a caddy job not easy even if its your friend, intense!
As a caddy this always pisses me off when someone intentionally doesn’t take my advice and goes in a bad spot
it losing his caddy money in the paycheck.
I guess we are not on the clock yet.
Spieth is a shell of his previous glory. They said back then that he would only get better as he aged. Bad prediction.
This is why you have a caddy but ultimately its Jordan playing the shot.
30 yards short of the green looks like. Tough break Jordan
What happened to the 40s rule in golf? Don't know how long before the start of this clip Jordan arrived at the bunker, but it took hime almost 2 full minutes to hit that ball into the pond. Did I hear from LIV defectors saying they were headed to LIV to grow the game? I'll tell you what. Start actually enforcing the 40s rule regardless of whom and regardless of what the situation is.
Yes I've seen LPGA players penalized for slow play that was quicker than Spieth .He is getting out of hand !
Meh, I've seen several of these videos where Greller trys to talk him out of shots and 9/10 times Spieth pulls it off. All part of the game.
too much thinking! just hit it! 😁
Always hope he plays well but being bes a cowboy fan I root alittle less go giants
Play within your abilities and the conditions. Know your game. Listen to a smart caddy.
Dont listen if you disagree.
I mean obviously you should listen but you shouldnt do as they say if you disagree
Cantlay had a perfect plan ,he was decisive and played fairly quickly ,not over thinking the shot !
Jc, just hit the ball
hit the ball already.
i think the fact he called the caddie in for his input shows he had some doubt in the shot he needed to hit and therefore should have listen to him.
Caddies give input for everything. Didn’t call him in. He was just there
@@mrfashizleboy9486 He had his mind made up ,he wasn't even close in getting on the green. He plays way too slow and makes bad decisions .I always pulled for him but he's just hurting himself !
Caddies know best, players never let their ego go
That's good I don't like him as a player haha 😆 love it
Kudos to the caddie for sticking to his guns, but Jordan became one of the world's top golfers and the caddie is a caddie, so I think he's done ok trusting himself..
Was he in the final group, taking all that time? If not, very discourteous.
USA PGA.
Seems like normal stuff to me. Wouldn't try taking this much time on your course though.
Jordan seems like a NIGHTMARE to caddy for....
Bruh michael loves his job
Hes one of the few guys that has had the same caddie his whole career...
At least Jordan made it clear the fault would be with himself and not his caddie before he played. Others would blame the caddie regardless.
I would argue the opposite. There are some players where the caddie would be terrified to intervene or caution against a certain shot. A good relationship is one where they communicate, like in this instance. It is still ultimately up to the player to make the decision.
Caddies get 10% of the prize money the golfer wins . An error like Spieths in this video means if he misses the cut because of it. 10% of 0 is 0 .
This was 3rd round and he was leading but I get what your saying
@@vincentjohnson3174 difference between 1st place and 3rd is like $500,000 that’s $50,000 the caddie would be out .
They are professionals he picked the shot he thought he could pull off. No biggie, move on to the next hole
He was in first place , it was a biggie
Whats with the constant twirling of the club in his hand. Like a nervous twitch.
lol 🤭
Shdhsiduwudx737d83duejuuedheh3uheehdxhvdxvehdueyy3y2ey3uysyw
What annoys me about this, is that if Spieth doesn't make the money, it doesn't really make a difference to him. But for his caddie, it would be a huge deal.
Generally this is correct but this caddie in particular is already a millionaire.
I would say the caddie is lucky to piggyback off spieths skill to earn a living so he can deal with some bad decisions from time to time.
@@tapryor2tonysub150 you don't know how much work caddies do
@@brahamthomas1198 you don’t know how much work real people with real jobs do
@@ericlee9629 I am a real person with a real job, so I do... but ok
This is why he can’t consistently win
nothing major , stand on your nuts and hit the shot. the layup shot had the potential of being played poorly too
rather watch LIV
PGA tour's coverage is so bad the people watching this live didn't even get to see this happen in full screen or hear the conversation because of the tour's obnoxious greed.
LIV golf is the future.
The PGA tour is finished.
just think what would Deshambo do?
The longer you talk, the worse the shot is in the end.
This is why he doesn't have more wins. It's equal to a quarterback throwing it out of bounds vs trying to make the play, it's always better to play it safe unless your that good and he isn't.
Sorry but taking to much time cant stand slow play
Speaking of downside. That perfectly describes Jordans career
First
Play faster , doesn’t matter , shouldn’t even have caddies
Please don’t go. It is Saudi Money. Stand up be a great American and great at golf. ❤️⛳️🇺🇸😘😘
I have been a follower of Jordan from his first win but I’ve lost my hopes for him. I know he won once this year after a long time between wins. He’s lost a lot of his concentration. I’ve started pulling for other players who are more consistent. I know he averages 10 million dollars per year is cash and investments. So he’s not hurting but if he could just concentrate a bit more he may return to his days of 2015.
Clown talks 2 much drama queen! Done
I think he's trying to make a golf swing like cameron smith, he's ultra dooshy with his consistent chat, being his caddy would be a really annoying job, like babysitting an annoying kid..
What I heard was a caddie putting doubt in his player's head...
You should doubt your ability to hit a 1% shot.
@@kennyg1358 LOL! Doubt is the enemy of success....
It’s not putting doubt in his head, he’s simply suggesting the smart thing to do
All I got from that video is that he is such a slow player and that it sets such a terrible example for all the amateurs out there.
His problem is he knows the camera are there and he wants so bad to be like tiger woods and sound like it takes a degree to just swing a wedge. Grow up Jordan
Dude....quit overthinking everything?! Let your natural ability take over like you were doing early in your career. C'mon man!!
this is spot on. After the meltdown in 2016 at the masters he has done this time and time again. He thinks more analytics the better off he is. Just look at his swing, complete opposite of natural
Cantlay won because he made a decision and never overthought that decision !
Long live LIV
Yeah, that golfer is an absolute pill. Just the neurotic nature of his over analysis is difficult to watch.
Jesus loves you all and died for our sins .
Naaah
