It's not only deepest lake in the world, it's also the lake with the largest volume of fresh water in the world. I guess it's got around 3 times more fresh water than in lake Superior in North America.
Ah, so many good memories! That was an awesome trip around Baikal with epic Buhanka shots. Dan was probably the first and the only American to ride across the lake that way, haha!

Great video, Dan. By the way, do you know what does the word (name of the car) bukhanka mean? :) A loaf coz it resembles a loaf. A legendary UAZ car. Particularly this design is still the same since 60s of the last century. And there is another design of this car, i.e. Hunter. Both are extremely popular among fishers and hunters but are also widely used for military applications. And buhkanka is also used as an ambulance car and an emergency/rescuer car. Very simple and very reliable and versatile vehicle.

Your skating is better than mine!! Remember, the Wright brothers first flight was only about 100 meters. Keep it up and you'll be gliding like a pro!! Watch the shoulder though. I hope you can get that fixed. Good luck. I have drank from ice mugs too. SIL had a set that you used to make them. One night at -35c we had a BBQ. I put down a mug of beer and it froze. It was then put in the coals to thaw. It was made from that special glass. Great times.

You're right but in most languages in Western Europe at least the Caspian Sea is considered a sea hence the name. Baikal however is called Lake Baikal. I guess it depends on the definition used and the language spoken.
@@i8Hardcore I know you're correct just pointing out why it's probably not considered by many to be a lake even though it is. It also has salinity so that probably adds to the confusion. It was a sea that became land locked, dried out and got refilled if I remember correctly. So it's an odd lake.

I have done this, In recent winters it has been too warm, You drill a hole in the ice and measure thickness and if it is so many inches thick it is safe. /// My home town had a snow plow fall through into a lake when plowing a ice skate area. The plow man made it away, It went in slowly. Then the fire department came to save the plow. City has a dive team put a chair on the truck and pulled out.
Up in Minnesota they setup race track on the lake in the winter🎉 sometimes you have to drive on the ice to get to town. It will hold 10 ton dump truck. Ice fishing is big up there❤❤ when you go home Daniel do some ice fishing. Fun as hell❤

That's correct. Baikal also has got a few other species of fish, plankton, crustaseans and plants that live only in the lake and nowhere else.

You're right but in most languages in Western Europe at least the Caspian Sea is considered a sea hence the name. Baikal however is called Lake Baikal. I guess it depends on the definition used and the language spoken.

@@i8Hardcore I know you're correct just pointing out why it's probably not considered by many to be a lake even though it is. It also has salinity so that probably adds to the confusion. It was a sea that became land locked, dried out and got refilled if I remember correctly. So it's an odd lake.

Ice fishing is a big deal on the Great Lakes. People move little houses onto the ice, cut a circle of ice out so they can fish.

I have done this, In recent winters it has been too warm, You drill a hole in the ice and measure thickness and if it is so many inches thick it is safe. /// My home town had a snow plow fall through into a lake when plowing a ice skate area. The plow man made it away, It went in slowly. Then the fire department came to save the plow. City has a dive team put a chair on the truck and pulled out.
Up in Minnesota they setup race track on the lake in the winter🎉 sometimes you have to drive on the ice to get to town. It will hold 10 ton dump truck. Ice fishing is big up there❤❤ when you go home Daniel do some ice fishing. Fun as hell❤
