    As an Englishman who grew up in the 80's and 90's watching the Ashes, I know I was watching the golden era of cricket. Australia at that time I believe, was the best cricket team to ever grace the hallowed turf. It was total viewing pleasure watching my team trying to beat Ponting, Warne, McGrath and co... there was zero weakness throughout the whole Aussie team. I was so lucky.

    • @MrBillUp
      @MrBillUp Před 3 lety +4

      @EAGLE YT That's a tough one buddy. As things are at the moment, I would say Rugby as it is broadcast on terrestrial TV. Whereas Cricket is broadcast on Sky PPV, and has done for many years. Sky pumped lots of money into Cricket, yet it dropped the viewing figures massively.
      The 50 over World Cup Cricket final was broadcast on CH4 live in the UK for free, and had record viewing figures, watching England win. How I miss cricket on free to view TV. Saying that we have the tour of India going on at the moment, which CH4 are broadcasting for free. Its a godsend throughout the Wuhan Flu. 👍🤗

      @EAGLE YT Oh yes, very much so. It's on the curriculum of most high schools in the country. Nearly every town in the UK will have a cricket club. You then have County Cricket. Its thriving. My point being from my earlier post is it could be second only to football if it was on national TV on a regular basis.

Every team used score with run rate of 4 in ODIs and 1 or 2 in Test while Aussies scored with 6 in ODIs they touched 300 most and reached target of 300 most. It was the time when 240 was good, 286 was great score and 300 was like you won 60% of the match already. coz batters were so slow every single match would end like 20 needed on the last ball*

    When people try do the 'greatest spinner' thing (they're doing it a lot right now because Warnie's just left us), they use stats to tell the story. And in a stats match, Murali comes out on top. But stats don't tell the whole story, a part of which was touched on in this segment.
    Two things that don't make it into the stats: 1) According to Brian Lara and others, Murali's confidence would suffer on those occasions when wickets didn't come quickly. By contrast, Warnie's confidence would grow. For the batter, it meant there was never a moment to get comfortable.
    2) As Heals said here, you could pick Warnie from the clubhouse. Like a lot of spinners, Murali would try to conceal his bowling hand for as long as possible before a delivery. Fair enough too. If I could bowl spin, I'd try to hide it as well. But Warnie never tried to hide it. He didn't care if they could pick him, because picking him didn't matter. They still had to play him, which was the real test.

      He used the angles of over and around the wicket beautifully and along with his accuracy like heals mentioned, made him a real danger, along with his hood ability to spin the ball far

    I have a suspicion the SW would be in top 10 (if not 5) of wicket takers if he returned for a season

      Warne could turn them in pitch road, 3rd world village road, remote village road, glass or cement. He was just that good. Hell he could probably turn them in 10 inch long grass too.

    If you have Shane Warne in your bowling attack - you let him tell you what field he wants.
