Honestly, as a father, Homer is probably the most realistic when it comes to how he cares for his kids. He's not there for them all the time, but no father can be. It's lower your expectations. As a child, you cannot have your parents flounder over you every second of every day, so Homer does the best he can with the time he has. It's honestly kind of heartwarming when you see him try his best

Dad would make sure i had my backpack. It held my colors, whether it was of the marker, crayon, or stencil variety, a handheld video game (not like we have today. This was back in the early 90's), and maybe my pillow & blanket so i could nap later, if i decided i wanted to. Dad also made sure to stop by McDonalds to get us Deluxe Breakfasts (it came with Pancakes, a biscuit, sausage, eggs, and a hashbrown) with Orange Juice, before starting our day. ❤ I love you, Dad. I couldn't ask for a better Father.

Yeah, you'd never see a woman say that for construction work, or a nuclear plant job, so all the "cool jobs" aka, the ones kids think are cool, are usually where men are seen commonly on, and the ones boys are likely to aspire to go to, not like girls that aspire to go to more practical works with higher pay, like lawyers or doctors.
This scene genuinely inspired me to become a great cook when I was a kid. Lenny’s “you eat first with your eyes” always stuck with me and the care that Homet put into the meal showed me that you can make anything look and taste great if you try hard enough.
It's nice seeing homer being so sweet when je truly needs to, either that or Lisa's the favorite os cuz he strangles and insults bart on the daily and doesn't really interact with Maggie
