most of the time tornadoes are made from supercell storms which are responsible for monster hail and extreme downbursts (an extreme burst of rain out of a clowd), so you will likely slide across the road at your speed, get hit by giant hail that will break your windshields, get caught by a downburst and, while blinded by the rain, crash, and another thing mentioned here is that the funnel of the tornado is not its true size so you will think you just skimmed by it when you are actualy in it and now you're in it

I don't know why they say leave your car. If you get thrown in your car, then your bare body will definitely get thrown.
I'd rather be thrown around in a steel cage protecting me than my bare body with nothing to protect me
Because cars go boom boom when they crash so it will get flattened and then explode you acually have a higher chance surviving if your unconscious body is thrown by the storm then you do conscious or not in a car.
Cars have much more surface area for the wind to grab. When the windows bust out and debris starts picking at your unprotected flesh you would be better off in a ditch face down where most of that debris will fly over you.

weak tornado : blows vehicles off the road, and can flip them when they're stationary
strong tornado : lifts vehicles off the ground or can throw them
violent tornado: makes vehicles fly
