    Jim Peterik and that sound He created are the facts that make history. I love his voice and playing. I was 14 when heard survivor and became a great reference for me in Rock.

    Jim Peterik is best known as a founding member of the band Survivor and the co-writer of their Grammy-winning double platinum #1 hit single, “Eye of the Tiger.” But that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Thirty-five of Jim’s songs have appeared on the Billboard Pop chart, including seven Top 10 singles. His first major success came when his original band, Ides of March, took the Peterik-penned “Vehicle” to the #2 position on the Pop chart in 1970, spawning cover versions by Chet Baker and Shirley Bassey. After a stint as a solo artist with Epic Records, Jim formed Survivor in 1979, penning a string of hits for the band, including “I Can’t Hold Back,” “High On You,” “The Search is Over,” “Burning Heart,” and “Is This Love.” While still writing hits for his own group, Jim forged a successful partnership with the members of 38 Special, co-writing classic songs, including “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Hold On Loosely,” and “Caught Up In You.” Widely respected as a top-notch collaborator, Jim has co-written successful songs with a number of artists, including the Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sammy Hagar, Cheap Trick, the Doobie Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Mindi Abair. The long list of those who have covered his compositions includes Paul Anka, Gloria Gaynor, Tony Orlando, Reba McEntire, Larry Gatlin, Blackhawk, and The Outlaws.

    He's the main "song writer" of the band (Survivor) and he gets ostracized and ridiculed by his band mates!!!!!😧😮😲😯 And treated like crap!!!! Wow!!!! That's shocking to me!!!! What was the deal with Frank Sullivan!!! A big ego!!!! Just another lead guitarist!!! Dime a dozen!!!! If I was the main song writer that wrote the big hits in the band I was in and they treated be really bad and like shit!!!! I would tell them !!!! To "See Ya !!! Don't want to be ya!!!!" And quit and be a solo artist!!!! Or start another band!!!!😧😧😧😄😄😄😄 Life's too short to put up with that kind of B.S.!!!!! It's hard enough to succeed in the music business and make a good living!!!

    one thing that reminds me of survivor is Chris Jericho doing a rock commentary show and he says ' eye of the tiger' was amazing( forgot what he said exactly) then they came back with a new singer and the lead single is ' the search is over'- what happened and I can not believe this.

  • @duaneelliott2327
    @duaneelliott2327 Před 6 lety +8

    not a survivor or petrick fan but why is Frankie Sullivan running Survivor to nothing and this guy is the real reason Survivor is a band that everyone knows their name. Eye of the Tiger is probably a top 20 song ever.

      @britbox4517 Před 4 lety +6

      You answered your own question mate. The heartbeat of the band was Peterik. Bickler was a great singer. Jamison was a great singer AND a great showman. Sullivan is a half decent guitarist but lame band leader. He got the rights to the band because Peterik didn't really fight it.

    For me the rock genre AOR/MELODIC Rock is SOOOOO underrated. Except for Eye Of The Tiger I never listened to other Survivor songs in the eighties. Heck I never even heard of Journey untill the late nineties and I'm now FIFTY years old for flips sake. Maybe the fact that I live in Northern Ireland had something to do with it? I highly recommend Jim's more recent projects especially World Stage and the band Pride Of Lions.

    Why does he say "Rockin into the Night" was a Top 5 hit for 38 special? It only peaked at #43.
