  • A comment on one of my videos led me to check out the small tourist town of Saratoga Springs, New York State. With a history of horse racing, rejuvenating mineral spring water, gambling, and getaways, this sleepy town has a lot more going on than you might think. Let's take a peek...

    Contrary to what you said, it is quite easy to find photos of Saratoga Springs,. As a great resort of the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was richly photographed, and as a vibrant renowned little city today, photos of it today saturate the internet and volumes of books. Google for the Bolster Collection just to get started.

      Wow that's a fantastic collection. Had I known of it I would have included some of these. I certainly encourage viewers to check them out. I didn't mean it was difficult to find pictures of Saratoga Springs, only that some of the locations we're difficult to find in photograph form. The Bolster Collection certainly provides a snapshot into the richness of life here in the past. Thanks for adding to the conversation!!

      I bought a postcard of the United States Hotel today at antique shop. I believe it’s from around 1910. I was just so beautiful and got me to look up more information on it. There seems to be very little on what happened to it. The Bolster Collection has many pictures later than that.

    Saratoga Springs is quite impressive. My favorite picture is @12:52 the colorized street scene. I am still amazed at the deconstruction to hide the past. I hope more people give you more requests on locations as it will bring more of our hidden history to light which many may not know exist.
    Take care everyone

    Was watching footage recently of the front door and frontage to 10 Downing Street, London.
    This Street was raised or the building and nearby buildings sunken, depending on ones view.

    I love your colored version and interestingly enough, the building on the left with the plants looks almost exactly like that today!! Alot of the buildings shown here are still used today and look just as magnificent as they did when they were built... Sadly an influx of "downstaters" have moved up here and are ruining a lot of what makes Saratoga Springs special.

    The Congress Hall hotel is mislabeled. I submitted a correction on the Library of Congress. It was in the same side as Congress Park on Broadway. The Grand Union was in the other side of Broadway.

    No photographs. I laughed out loud when you said that...when we do this sort of work it's just literally expected before that we ARENT going to find any construction photos..like..how...these buildings are just sort of there.

      Gorgeous buildings in the middle of nowhere, constructed on mud streets with horse and carriages, with nobody around. Or a sparse population. The math ain't mathin'!

    • @oldworldex
      @oldworldex  Před 2 lety +5

      I've heard the argument that pictures were rare and they didn't want to waste them on the construction process. I call bs. You'd especially expect to see the laying of the 'cornerstone' ceremony with the project funder and the mayor present. You know, a golden shovel ceremony. How about a photo of the 20 foot deep plus pit that was dug out to accomodate the basement and foundation of these places. Surely that would be a sight worth capturing.

    • @mickguadagnoli8779
      @mickguadagnoli8779 Před 2 lety +3

      @@Dommommy there is a point to this...the math really doesn't add up..where I live in New England they say that 76% of the trees have been logged. In order for that to happen I have it a very modest 300 years.
      At 300 years and most of it with out modern machinery, it comes to close to 500 acres a day. This is if they logged quite literally every single day. If they miss two days it goes up to 700 acres a day.
      Add in winters and everything else, it comes out to 2000 acres a day. If you add up the amount of time all these buildings were but, it's quite literally not possible. It's not conjecture or debatable either. If you add the rest of the country to this I'm sure we are at 10s of thousands of acrea a day.
      Another thing you point out is these populations were tiny. I used to live off grid. You tru to make life as EASY as possible. None of these buildings look easy to build (obviously).

    • @mickguadagnoli8779
      @mickguadagnoli8779 Před 2 lety +3

      @@oldworldex absolutely.....this search for truth, I must add, has to be applied to just these buildings but every construct in our lives we ever trusted. The house of cards for them doesn't just collapse with these buildings, but also the realm in which we live and the very nature of such reality.

      NEW ENGLAND! that's where I was born, I knew as a kid that Brockton wasn't built by my great grandpappy.
      Brockton just doesn't add up , levitated trains, City Hall, Fields park, military base, Mills pond and the whole city is disguised brick buildings and streets.
      When I found out about Norumbega or Nurembega in the 8th grade things made a little more sense.

    Yes I"m sure for backfilling, all they had to do was hand tamp it and then wait for the mud flood to finish the job/ LoL No obviously whoever built these had access to heavy tamping equipment and way earlier than they are saying on wicked-pedia!
