- A short #POV #tutorial showing you how to create a classic early 90s Techno jam with minimal equipment in the style of Jeff Mills and the like. The result is by no means a finished track, but a solid foundation to be edited, arranged and mixed in any DAW. It’s just one melodic part and a drum track. I show you how to program a typical synthesizer line. The sound design for the Volta FM is done before and not shown, because it is a rather boring process of trial-and-error. But you can download the patch with the link below.

i love the fact that most of the old techno was make the most of what you have.
So much better than modern over produced DAW techno. The 90s were the greatest decade to be young and go to techno clubs. No mobile phones, just people into it with no distraction.
DAW have so many tools at hand which make producing so overkill and usually set an unnecessary high standard for artist. Think hardware! In the old days so many people start with nothing but a bunch of machine plays together, no money for studio nor expensive processing unit. People have to make the most use out of what they have, live tweak on the go and improvise, that's why oldschool stuffs have this organic feeling to it (in my opinion) that make it a staple of the genre. Slight offbeat and out of sync in the modern age is a error, in the old days it's a feeling.
the drugs were better bro
I lived in the 90s and we had beepers, cell phones and the internet.
@@XanderEwald go lycos
@@XanderEwald yeah dude gotta check yur beeper in the club.....

Mills used a DX100 in a ton of his work. Not a surprise you can capture quite a decent Mills-vibe with the Volca!
Cool as!

Sounds great!
Pity about the edit at about 6:22, I was paying attention to how you were going to return/ progress.

superbe 👍
It has that dj Hell vibe
Nice sequence, solid pattern, good arrangement; that makes this track groove! Amazing!
One question: is there any compression used here, particularly on the tr-8?
Tr-8 has compression on kick and snare, both with their own designated knob. It sounds like there is some comp on the kick in this case.
There is also sidechain built in to the tr-8, where you can route audio through the drummachine and apply side chain compression per step via the sequencer.
Don't think he's using that feature in this video.
Yeah!!!
The lead is nice :))
ok thats HARD
Dope Shit Right There

Hi, I found your channel today. Your work is amazing!!
Would you tell me how you recorded this video clip?
-Where did you put your video camera?
-Is the sound in this clip recorded by the camera?
-What’s the name of the camera?
hi mate and thanks! :-)
the video was recorded with a gopro hero 3 black - with some kind of self made mouth mount.
the sound is recorded twice and mixed: the line signal is recorded on a computer and the audio from the camera mic is also used (so you hear me press the buttons etc).
Erhalder oh, wow! You used a self made mouth mount! That’s a lot of work! I admire that. Thank you for the info about the camera and recording of the sound too!!
A mouththingy is a lot of work ? You did hear the track right ?
Say I wanted to start producing some acid, what equipment is best? And how do you record?
Do you find the Volca FM is really effortless to get these techno kind loops going?
Well dome bró
je découvre que tu es français XD ça fait grave plaisir, du très beau boulot sur tes vidéos avec le Zaquencer, tu l'as gardé ?
thanks for your words mate, unfortunately i'm not living in the french part of switzerland and my french skills are pretty basic :-) but anyway, thnaks for your support and yes, i kept the sequencer and the recording and it will be edited into a full track during summer. :-)
Just coincidentally clicked on a video of my EXACT setup while trying to figure out what to do with my fm
Except I have a tr-8s
