KTM 200 EXC vs KTM 300 EXC - Flowing Singletrack GoPro

- A few laps on a greasy day on one of the singletracks we cut a few weeks ago in the pines. Marty gets away on his new 300 after I screw up a few corners in a row. Filmed with a GoPro Hero HD on the 1080 setting.

- KTM 200 EXC 2007 (Mitch - GoPro)
- KTM 300 EXC 2012 (Marty)

They are very different bikes to ride - the 300 is so easy, plenty of torque, and lots of go when you crack the throttle, scary power! The 200 needs to be ridden hard like a 125, tap dancing the shifter and plenty of clutch. They are both super fun, but for me, the 200 rules!
200 loves to rev and will put in the next gear just have to keep changing them. I've smashed the dreams of many 450 riders on my ( as they call it ) little 200. great riding

Random flashback here. Couldn't sleep. I suddenly found myself searching CZcams for all the old bikes I had at some time. Brand new RZ and RG500 road bikes, which were just a precursor almost to Supermotard. Man I had so many KTM's I can't remember! I raced a full size KTM 80 25 years ago and won everything in the Watagans against the 125's which they all hated. And then I thought I've gotta get back into it. I had my 52nd bday last weekend and I've never owned a 4 stroke so a new 200 is the go
i just got a 2007 exc 200 for my 15th birthday, i went from a crf 230. The 200 is the best bike ever starts first kick every time. love this video, you two ride pretty quick.

Hi mate, just the SXS Hardparts FMF expansion chamber (not the FMF gnarly - it made the bike rev slower and robbed the top end) and FMF shorty muffler. Size C piston, and a few other things like, Renthal Chain/sprockets, lots of Orange KTM Hardparts, SXS gearbox parts, basically just things to make it more reliable as they are pretty quick out of the box!
Pegging the needle on the fun meter. Great video and thanks for not putting it to music. The bikes were music to my ears.
This video inspired me to get the 200 I'm picking up tomorrow. Thank you in advance because I know I'm gonna love it.

You may have screwed up. But it's damn good to see that in my 12 yrs of being off a bike, people still ride them the way their supost to be rode. I'm tired of looking up vids of people ridding and they just putt putt around like they have no clue what they're doing. Great ridding!

Thanks for the reply! I had to pick up a KTM200 after your video. Couldnt decide on the 200 or 300. I decided lighter was better. Glad to hear this bike rev like a 125!! The FMF gnarly is on my bike and yep... doesnt sound quite as crisp!
i had a 300 EXC and my eyes would water the power of those KTM's is extreme!
@owengilbert hi mate, this was recorded in Belangelo Forest, south of Sydney NSW. You may have heard of that forest for other not so good reasons...

Had lots off 300's and love them, but they wear me out in tight stuff. Thanks for the video. And I know exactly what you mean about Belangalo, just near Sutton Forest. Hit a few roo's there over time! SunnyCorner is mega. Used to to the big ride day there when it first go going about 1990. Except I took my Suzuki 500 quad and smashed them all. White Power shocks. AWESOME riding! That looks like a LOT of fun! I bet that was a LOT of hard work just makin the room to ride thru it! Just picked up a 2001 KTM 300 esc a few nights ago. I know its not the latest & greatest but its something I can ride 2 ease myself back into this sport & I can ride w/ my 5 yr old son who has a Yamaha pw50 of his own!

Hey man, the 200 has a KTM hardparts SXS expansion chamber and an FMF Shorty muffler, the 300 has a Pro Circuit Works expansion Chamber and a 304 Factory muffler.

Mate just an SXS Hard Parts FMF Expansion chamber, FMF shorty muffler, size C piston and ring, and a fair few other smaller Hardparts that make it tougher/more reliable and easier on the eye. They are pretty awesome just standard!
Its a bit harder to get a RedBull helmet than riding in the front yard..
hey mate, yep the 200 is full road rego, its cheaper than 250s/300s/450s as well. Pretty sure the weight in the brochure shows the 200 as 96kg, and the 300 is 103kg. not a huge difference but you can really feel it when the trail tightens up!

You guys need a bit more trails. I love them 200's. I have one myself being completely rebuilt this winter.

The 300 is an awesome bike, lots of power and torque. Reason I got the 250TE instead is because I race long Enduro races, shortest being 1hr 45min. I do the GNCC Snow Shoe in West Virginia and that is a weekend event and is a 4-5hr race and that's not including the 2 qualify runs which are around 125-130min to complete the course. The TE250 I can ride longer without getting worn out, the 300s power and torque gets to my body. If your just riding and doing some events, hell yeah get the 300TE

Nice bike btw. When i'm in the the position to buy a dirtbike, i'll be looking at KTMs 2t exc range or maybe a Yamaha WR250F.

Husaberg does make a better suspension. They design there bikes strictly for Enduro. I bought the Husaberg TE 250 cause at a test track I rode the TE300 and after a while the torque wore me out. I'm only 5ft 7 and 140lbs so staying with the 250 was my choice. Husaberg and KTM share the same KTM motor but like I said the Husaberg has the better suspension and setup. 2strokes are easier and cheaper to replace things and a lot lighter. The 300 2strokes have power of the 2 and torque of a 4 stroke.

Make it happen man. I went from a KDX 200 to a 200 exc in the past month and not that the KDX was bad, but its like going from a honda civic to a ferarri.
this makes me miss my old 300 soooo badly... I ride a 450exc now and its great and all but its still a PIG and i want my smoker back... Looks like im gonna be switching back.
I'm not quite happy with my Gasgas ec 300 Racing.. which do you prefer? The 200 or 300?

I love the TE250, I think if I could gain a healthy 20lbs of weight I would have gotten the 300 lol I just can't gain anything, I'm lucky I've gained 8lbs since I graduated high school. The nice thing about 4 strokes is the fuel injection, but there is a company that has made a kit for 2 strokes but they are still finishing the details and development. There is a vid YZ/CR500 Fi, they took a YZF 4 stroke bike and mated a CR500 2stroke motor with the F.I kit they developed.
depends how u ride.. 4 stroke probably better if you aren't that experienced but it is heavy and harder (technically) to turn than a 2 stroke
150r would beat a 85.. the torque is better for woods.. 85's cook in the woods
but you should get a 125, fast.. but it's so light and simple to ride you will be faster than your 150r in no time
The 300 is a lot of bike to be whipping around corners like that I have one and it's a little overwhelming at times
I would do unspeakable things to ride in those conditions

I rode a ktm 250xc recently, in the woods and it wore me out. Didn't need more then the first 3 gears, even on straight aways. Right now I have an 04 yz250f. I also race Gncc when its near me(I'm from P.A.) Or I race local hare scrambles. I was considering a ktm 200 or 150/144. I raced my dads 125 and it threw me around being so light, I'm around 5'8 120-125 pounds(cant gain weight). You ever ride a 200? I think 250 would be too much, what do you think.

What bike are you riding now? The 200 has the similar top end power to the 150, but has a smoother and easier to use power band
nice, well i've finally succeeded in blowing up my 125. Thinking a 200 if i can gather the funds, otherwise i'm looking at going up to the yz250.
The 200 is a great bike if you can afford it
That yz250 will be a lot of bike for you to handle through the woods until you get used to the power and the hit, but is so fast once you get used to it
all you need to do is test ride one man, they are really great bikes. i had a 200exc and it was the best bike ive ever had and yeah the yz250 would be a bit of a handfull but you could probably change the gearing to suit you and so the power hasnt got so much of a hit
