    Just about to embark on my own project to single handedly build a gypsy caravan. My intention is to travel europe by horse and with having my home travelling with me I'll travel in comfort. Thanks for the vid, it's given me a few ideas, neat job guys :)

      How can it be a gypsy caravan if you are not a gypsy? Call it an american caravan.

    Nice work; having watched so many videos on vardos I’m thinking of making a folding round top style Vardo similar to the folding sheep wagon that other dude made.....see if I can make one 12 feet long and keep it light weight enough to be towed by a car....
    ((If not I’ll just have to buy a truck))
    Use it to travel the lower 48 on short trips until I can retire full time to my property in Alaska..

    • @Andor3000
      @Andor3000  Před 6 lety

      Light weight was the focus of the design here for sure. Still, the trailer is ended up being vastly undersized and it is sketchy to tow with the van. Don't underestimate the danger of towing something too big with a small vehicle! Good luck!

    • @Rick_Sanchez_C137_
      @Rick_Sanchez_C137_ Před 6 lety

      Toba
      Yeah, but in addition to cutting weight you also need to cut wind resistance; one of the ways you do that is by shrinking the size. Like I said, “folding.” So instead of the Vardo sticking up 7 feet above the axle, it will only stick up 3.5 feet above the axle...cutting wind resistance in half.
      I can’t remember the name of the guy that posted it, I think his last name was smith, look for folding sheep wagon and you should be able to find his video.
      By reducing wind drag you are less likely to have trailer pushed around by high winds...that is NOT the whole issue, I get that, but most cars are rated to tow between 1500 and 2000 pounds, so with a 700 pound trailer you still have 800 pounds to go for the 1500 pound mark. When pulling it don’t store water in the trailer, have everything set up in removable bins that you can take out and put in the vehicle when driving, the ends and tub out of wood sandwiching foam, screwed and glued; then cover with a canvas tarp, insulation of your choice, and an oilcloth tarp, an viola....bed and compost toilet in a box... that weighs little enough to be folded up and towed by a car....
      Also, you can get a trailer stabilizer... it is basically another bar between the trailer and car with a shock absorber...they work wonders....but not enough if you go outside the vehicles weight limit....
      As an aside, you might want to take your van to your mechanic and ask him about hardening up the suspension in the rear. It can make a difference....but me, I’d do that last.
      Again, love the vid, can’t wait to build mine and post.

    Very cool build did you have to put anything on the plywood outside to protect it from weather? Beside painting it of course. Thanks for sharing

    Hello, sorry for my English, but I love what you did. I have a question for the roof of the trailer, is it painted canvas? Can you tell me more about it? Thank you in advance.

    • @Andor3000
      @Andor3000  Před 4 lety

      Yep, just painted heavy canvas with exterior latex. Fibers swell up and tighten the fabric around the frame as well as make it waterproof. Got the idea from canvass kayaks.

      Another white person pretending to be gypsy? A vardo is horse drawn. Gypsy is a derogatory word if used by non roma. You are the kind of person who wears black face aren't you, racist.

    Probably more akin to a shepherd's wagon. But still not correct as those are horse drawn.
