The most successful team in NHL history is the Montreal Canadiens, with 24 Stanley Cups and 35 Finals appearances. The greatest number of times the winner of the USSR championship was CSKA Moscow - 32. Their meetings with each other: 12/31/1976 Montreal Canadiens - CSKA - 3: 3 12/31/1979 Montreal Canadiens - CSKA - 4: 2 12/31/1985 Montreal Canadiens - CSKA - 1:6 09/18/1990 CSKA - Montreal Canadiens - 3: 2 CSKA won here! Also, CSKA is the record holder of the European Ice Hockey Cup, which won 20 titles, and from 1978 to 1990 did it 13 times in a row. Champions of European countries participated in the draws of this tournament. Therefore, CSKA can be called the strongest team of all time! From 1975 to 1991, the clubs of the USSR played 108 matches with the teams of the National Hockey League. During this time, the Clubs of the USSR won 58 victories, 10 matches ended in a draw and lost 40 times to the representatives of the NHL. Meetings of the owner of the Stanley Cup with the champion of the USSR, who became in the season in which the match took place: 12/29/1979 New York Islanders - CSKA - 2: 3 12/31/1985 Montreal Canadiens - CSKA - 1:6 01/12/1991 Pittsburgh Penguins - Dynamo (Moscow) - 3: 4 Meetings of the owner or finalist of the Stanley Cup with the champion or silver medalist of the USSR Championship, who became in the season in which the matches between them took place: 12/31/1976 Montreal Canadiens - CSKA - 3: 3 01/11/1976 Philadelphia Flyers - CSKA - 4: 1 12/29/1979 New York Islanders - CSKA - 2: 3 12/29/1985 Calgary Flames - Dynamo (Moscow) - 4: 3 12/31/1985 Montreal Canadiens - CSKA - 1:6 01/09/1990 Boston Bruins - Dynamo (Moscow) - 1: 3 09/13/1990 Spartak (Moscow) - Minnesota North Stars - 8: 3 01/12/1991 Pittsburgh Penguins - Dynamo (Moscow) - 3: 4 As can be seen from the results, the USSR clubs on the field turned out to be stronger than the NHL clubs. Also, the symbolic team of the century included 4 players who played in the USSR championships and 2 players who played in the NHL. The six members of the symbolic team were chosen by voting organized by the IIHF. The selection committee included 56 hockey experts from 16 countries in Europe and North America. Symbolic team of the century: Goalkeeper: Vladislav Tretiak (USSR) - 30 votes. Defender: Vyacheslav Fetisov (USSR) - 54 votes. Defender: Börje Salming (Sweden) - 17 votes. Wing: Valery Kharlamov (USSR) - 21 votes. Wing: Sergei Makarov (USSR) - 18 votes. Center forward: Wayne Gretzky (Canada) - 38 votes In connection with the above, the USSR championship can be considered the strongest league in the world!
One thing though. They showed the "first 5" but left out the goalie. You should never leave Vladislav Tretiak out of this. He was an amazing goalie and is in the Hockey Hall of Fame for a reason.
I love Swedish they always was fair and respectful for Russians It is always was a war on an ice between Sweden and Russia but it always was respect from both team to ech other Thank you Sweden you are great hockey country
I thinke Sweden admired and learnt alot from Soviet hockey system, that is one of the reason they prodused those super teams and players(Sundin,Forsberg,Linndstrem,Holmstrem,Sedin;s bro)from 1990 till now.
@squirrellylikesfish look since 1972 untill 1991 108 games were played between USSR national Team and USSR CLUBS(TSKA,DYNAMO,KRYLIA) AGAINST CANADIAN TEAM AND NHL CLUBS(MONREAL,EDMONTON,BOSTON) THE IS 58 WINS FOR USSR 40 FOR CANADA 10 DRAWS.90% OF THESE gamesPLAYED IN CANADA.84 AND 87 were very close WENT TO OVERTIME.AND IN 1976 OUR BEST PLAYERS(Kharlamov,Petrov,Mikhailov)did not play.So you must remeber 1979 Challenge:6-0 against Canada in your home. Most Canadian dont know this
Sergei Makarov is my father, he is a great man, I plan on playing for the Russian Hockey teams and the NHL someday in America, Respect and honor from your son Vladimir Makarov.
@housebengt Fantastisk dokumentär. Tack! Köpte den när vi bodde i Tjeckien och visade den för vännerna där. Översatte så gott det gick under filmens gång. Fick lov att lämna den där nere, trots språket... :-)
@housebengt I am very interested in seeing the English speaking version of this documentary, and I know many others that share my interest. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! Jon
@jdesmond81 ..Hi, yes there is an english speaker version of the film but not for sale as the DVD-market is only for the scandinavian countries including Russia. There is however an english speaking version that is not released. If you write me I will see what I can do for you. :). Best wishes, Bengt Lofgren, director of CCCP-Hockey.
Tretjak, the drummer. Bassplayers? Kasatonov and Fetisov. Rythm guitars.. Makararov and Krutov, Aaaand lead guitarist. Larionov. I would call this hockey team AC/DC!!
In Sweden very popular as well, everyone born in the 70's early 80's know Krutov, Kasatonov, Festisov, Larionov and Makarov. And Tretiak. Because of how they played.
there was a russian icehockeyplayer with the name .......mischkin or mishkin or miksin beetween 1970 - 1999 ..can somebody help me to find him on you tube ?send an message on facebook to sinischa dvorski thank you very much
@robertsteven - Sure Canada sent their best in the Worlds in 2008, 2009... at the same time Crosby was playing for the Stanley Cup... So would you consider that a true best on best tourny? Why wasn't Ovechkin playing for the Stanley Cup...because he lost. Blaming the Refs for all of our victories is crazy... How then do you explain Canada's record in the World Juniors...which is held in a different country every year.. Since 1990 Canada has won 12 Gold.... Russia only 5!! Biased Refs?
@robertsteven - Well the great Red Machine were only able to beat Canada's best in 1 tourny - 1981 Canada Cup. Canada beat them in 72, 76, 84, & 87... and then communism fell. Don't forget this. Since 1976 there have been 11 hockey tournies where every country has sent the best players they have. Canada has won 7, Sweden 1, Czech 1, USA 1, and CCCP/Russia ONLY 1. That should tell you who really is the best at hockey. Most Russian people do not know this or want to admit it.
A true legend has left us. Rest in peace, Vladimir.
Damn that first goal they showed is just nuts.

the best thing about CCCP era is that they played a beautiful game, too good for any defensive boring structures to ever been able to shut down.

The CCCP was only plauged by three things in the 80s.
Bad goalies exept Tretjak.
Bad face offs.
Bad at line change on the fly.
